With my pz-1 I never noticed this. By the time my K-3 was in the scene the af in my copy of the lens had died. I wish I could say for certain that it worked but there was no way for me to test.

It's a conspiracy, "they" want all the vintage glass to be ruined for Pentax users so they hide this solution behind words like crazy and insane... :D

Mine only falls off in the bag so far. But after looking at it it will be a pain later. The hood doesn't have any threading on the cap end so a solution using a pinch cap may require a hood replacement also.

On some other lenses I have obtained metal hoods with integrated pinch caps - in the old days we would raid Tupperware at the thrift shop and find a matching diameter.

Here's my 50-135 wearing an alternate hood with integrated cap:

Btw the hood in question adds a slight vignette. I need a little wider diameter. The length is perfect.

Here the hood closed allowed me to concentrate on the iconic shape but use fisheye to emphasize it.

And a selfie...

I actually use ultrawide or fisheye for most. I can't find an example right now.

I think it was well covered but taking a few shots and talking to the owner and the requesting a closed hood shot tends to get the job done.

I kind of like those gleaming engines so I'm likely to ask them to open the hood!

Be aware that not using this feature means you should shoot a few dark frames at the same length shutter time with the lens cap on to use in post processing to remove sensor heat based thermal noise. The shots should be spaced out across the session. Using a few frames taken manually is more efficient when you are taking a large number of long shutter speed shots. When only making a few images it's easier and probably quicker (when you include post processing) to just allow the camera to do this.

I'm in Charlotte not that far from you. I don't shoot a k1, preferring my crop k3 due to weight but I have quite a number of lenses that are full frame capable. If you are interested contact me and we can arrange to meet if you want to try some lenses on the k-1. I know how hard finding Pentax hardware in person can be.

Canon says high DSLR demand may delay pro mirrorless body

That's fair. Perhaps a more reasonable way to characterize things is there is a lack of demand for a high end pro mirrorless Canon compared to continued demand for a DSLR pro camera.

Money talks, and right now it makes sense for Canon to sell both.

Canon Says There Is Still High Demand for DSLRs, Which May Delay Professional Mirrorless Model | Fstoppers

Interesting how Nikon and Canon are finding mirrorless reception a bit more tepid than they projected.

This is where most modern mirrorless cameras shine - the typically short flange focal distance allows a lot of mix and match legacy lens experimentation. But it is interesting to see what can be done with the larger sensor with these tiny lenses. I wonder if reversed they might make good macro shooters.

Honestly frame sizes have remained relatively static while sensor format ratios have changed.
