K-1 SD card problem

Cards can get corrupted when put into a card-reader without write-protect being set. In this case, the computer may add information to the card, invisible to the user, that prevents the camera writing to it. Whenever I put a card into the card-reader, I always set write-protect - it is possible that this how the OP's card became corrupted in the first place.

I agree - it's bad enough seeing them in real life. Fortunately, there are many parts of Norfolk where they are thin on the ground.

I can see no reason why not - unless purchased at a discount with any problems clearly indicated, it should work as specified. It appears that yours does not.

@Lev - sorry if you took my comment the wrong way, it was meant to be a gentle humorous aside, not a criticism of a negative post. Part of the trouble with just text - no context ! No offence intended, no offence taken. Good luck with getting it fixed / replaced.

Bit eager, aren't you ? Not everyone is either awake / on line at this time of day. That said, if I got it, I would certainly get it investigated - when you say new, do you mean brand new from a dealer, or just new to you ?

Tell me. I used to be employed in Local Government - the head of our unit was given the task of assessing whether the work would be cheaper done 'in-house' or outsourced. She produced spreadsheets 'proving' that outsourcing was cheaper, so the entire unit was made redundant - including her, much to her surprise. Poetic justice, I feel.

I could put something vituperative concerning the situation in Windsor UK, where 'rough sleepers' are being hassled off the streets in case they make the place look untidy for the impending Royal Wedding - but I won't.

Does occur to me, however, that if the world's media saw how Britain treats the less-fortunate in our society, there might be more pressure on our government to do something about the situation, particularly since there are over 20,000 dwellings in the UK that have been empty for over ten years.

Just a thought.

Meanwhile, Allen, I applaud your actions - giving sustenance is more productive then giving money.

Slightly off-topic : a local Charity Shop had a pile of Blu-Ray discs at 10p each, in cases, all looking new. I enquired why, and the assistant informed me that they must be damaged as they wouldn't play in her DVD player.

Also, a few years ago, at a boot sale (lurching slightly closer to topic - but not much) I found a brown leather lens accessory case stamped 'Leica' for 2.50, for which I thought I might have a use. Picked it up, opened it - inside was a silver teleconverter, also Leica. Being of an honest mien, I attempted to mention this to the stall holder, who immediately barked 'That's the price ! Take it or leave it !'

So, I took it - and sold it to a local camera shop for 80.

I never read while passing a wee - spoils concentration. Also, if you look at the images out of sequence, do you die before you've seen them all ? At my age, I need information like this.

Thanks. As I said, it was a long time ago - 45 years ? - so maybe not as relevant now. On the other hand, never hurts to be cautious.

Thanks to all who responded.

Vibration damage to camera bodies / lenses

Many years ago, I seem to recall reading in a magazine (possibly Amateur Photographer ?) that it was unwise to place camera equipment, or even bags / cases containing same, either on the floor of a motor vehicle or in the boot. The reason given was that the vibrations might loosen the small screws contained in the camera. Ever since then, I have kept my camera bag on my lap, or on the bus or train seat next to me (I do not drive).

I recently had an 'animated discussion' with someone, to whom I had lent some equipment, when I asked her to do the same to protect the kit, and she said she had never heard this advice. Can someone tell me, am I being over-cautious, or is there real value in protecting equipment to this degree ?

Thanks

Hi, Lisa,

In the UK, check out

SRB Photographic - Camera Accessories

They do all kinds of adapters, standard and made to measure. My only connection is as a satisfied customer (adapter to enable me to use my K20d for digiscoping on my Leica scope).
