I've done a "cold reboot" already along with the reset. I can try it again as I did the reset before I did a cold reboot.

Well, I think I'm going to try and do things differently. I'm returning the lens for a refund. Then I'll need to decide if I should get the KP fixed or not. I have a few options, either get the KP fixed and buy another 150-450 or get it fixed and buy the 55-300plm or don't get the KP fixed and instead, buy the k3 iii. If I do that, I won't be able to get the 150-450 lens but I can get the 55-300plm lens. This option would be the same as getting the KP fixed plus keeping the big lens. I tend to like to make things complicated but it sounds like the k3 iii and the plm lens is the better route to go as then I can have 2 new items under warranty.

So until I get the bigger issue that happened fix'd, I'll be placing this lens on my K-r. If the problem goes away then I know it was the camera body.

Kind of. My first thread I posted was about an issue with the camera shutting down. My second thread is about an issue with, what seems to be, a stuck closed shutter.... I pm'd the person I bought it from, just waiting to hear anything back.

Unfortunately, I purchased it from someone on the forum. It's worked great up until I got the new lens. I've probably taken 2000 pictures with it..

So, trying to figure out one issue, I had another one pop up. It seems the shutter is stuck closed. I can push the button and itll take a picture but there is no noise and the picture is black. When I switch it to live view, all I see is a black screen but it will take a picture (black of course). I've tried leaving the battery out for a few minutes and replacing, using a different fully charged battery, tried a long exposure shot that I seen someone else mention while removing the battery. I tried to take continuous shots to free it up. I am only assuming its the shutter stuck...

I'm thinking I'll make a few phone calls to some repair shots, any recommendations?

The 18 - 135 is on my list of lenses to get. I don't do much close up shooting so that's why I lean towards telephoto. I also want to get the 55-300 plm.

So it'll be hard to see from the photo I think but do these contacts look OK? The contact 3rd over from the left looks lower than the others.

Interesting....now I can't take any pictures....It will take a picture but it doesnt any sound and the picture is black. In liveview the screen in black as well (yes, the lens cap is off). This is with any of my lenses so the camera is the issue. I used a lens cleaning tissue to clean the contacts on the camera figuring it wouldnt be bad for it but maybe it was.....

This is the battery that came with the camera.

The 2 lenses I've only used with the KP have been my sigma 70 - 300 and smc pentax da 1:2.8 40mm. Never any issues using these lenses with my old battery. Could easily get 400 to 500 shots (jpg only) with my old battery.

No issues with any other lenses that I have. I'll check the dates. The battery works after I remove it and put it back in but for only for a few shots. It really varies because I can pull the battery out and put it back in and take like 100 shots before it shuts down or I can pull it out and place it back in and it shuts down after 1 shot or even no shots. I've swapped it with a "fully" charged battery and had the same thing happen for alittle while, then work perfectly for the rest of my hike...I have had it shut down not long after I first turned it on. I was assuming the new lens might require more power than the older battery is capable of??

I did the latest firmware update for my KP when it came out not to long ago.

I am having an issue with my KP with the new lens (Pentax 150-450). I am thinking it needs a new battery but not sure. It randomly just shuts down from time to time while using it. Sometimes it happens when I am taking a picture, or zooming in or out and sometimes when I am just walking around with it on. I have also had it stay on for an entire hike while not shutting down. I have 2 batteries for it, one is 11yrs old and the other came with the KP when I got it a few months ago. The KP only had an 85 shutter count on it so I assume that battery wasn't heavily used. Once it shuts down, I have to remove the battery and put it back in to even be able to turn it on. Any thoughts?

I think it'll take some getting use to. My first time ever with a lens this big. I might consider a monopod to pack along. Maybe they make a Monona that doubles as a walking stick...

I finally upgraded my Sigma 70-300 to the pentax 150 - 450. It's been a rainy day all day and the lens showed up about 3 hours ago. I got to take a few photos in less than ideal conditions and I can say, I'm impressed. Even in the low light conditions and through a window, my pictures came out great I think. These are all SOOC.

I use a type of sling camera bag. One strap, wear it like a backpack and can swing it around to my front and use it as an arm rest while taking pic's. I can't quite remember the name of the bag though...

Yup, but I also better produce some darn good shots straight from the camera because my wife loves the wifi option of the camera. Its new, so she loves putting the images straight on her phone. I wont mind doing some processing but thats a winter thing for me and it seems like I have a bunch of programs to look into come winter time.

I crop probably 95% of my photos.... That tells me that maybe I need a longer telephoto lens :)

I assume less post processing is needed for photos taken with a higher quality lens? Sounds like I can use photos from my old sigma and make them better with some processing and I can use a high quality lens to make pictures that would look like my sigma but with some processing or even better...

Post Your Best KP Shots - Page 215 - PentaxForums.com

I posted a few pictures I took from over the weekend on this thread, post #3217. These are jpegs with cropping done on the camera. I feel most could be sharper but the day was overcast so the colors on all seem ok other than the tanager could be a brighter red as he was quite the distance away up in the tree.

Thanks all, it seems like there are quite a few programs out there for post processing that I never even heard of. I will have to look into some of those (the simpler the better) and then I'll shoot a few raw photos to tinker with.
