This is my first trip here. Its a good 8 hour drive from home but well worth it. Next time I will go when the weather is a little cooler.
I tried to make an HDR out of the images I had but without a tripod things did not line up good enough. Spur of the moment trip, I am very glad to have gone.

Thanks,
Luckily I have not seen the aperture block failure. I believe the internal battery has failed and needs to be replaced. The camera no longer holds time, not a big issue. But it does drain the main battery in less then 8 hours with the camera off.

Hello,
I have a few old Pentax cameras. My what I consider new K-30 has a few issues I am hoping to track down solutions for here.
I've made a little progress and am hoping to share more when I have the information.
I'm from Arizona and have been a Pentax uses ever from the time I dug out my moms old stuff back in the 90's

Hello,
I know this is an old thread but I stumbled across it and wanted to add a little in case anyone else finds themselves with a similar issue.
My understanding is that if this was a cap it shouldn't fail in this way. Maybe supercaps are different but in theory caps should last longer then the mechanical bits of the camera itself before they fail unless they are electrolytic.

With that I am going to assume this is a battery but I will try and prove that later. Thank you to the OP for the battery can cap links. I haven't been able to find anything else online about them yet. I did however find a video of a k-50 being broken down for the battery. (

You Tube

) If hyperlinks do not work on this site search youtube for "How to repair DSLR Pentax K-50 - exchange memory battery" At 4:30 it shows the battery.

I emailed pentax to see what they have to say. My guess is send it to us and we will fix it. The online estimate was $200 bucks and at the price I feel like I'm better off replacing the camera.

I love my K-30 and I don't really want to replace it as it has good resolution and I feel like it has a lot of life left in it. With this video I plan on pulling mine apart and trying to find a replacement battery. My batteries die so fast if left in the camera I feel this is worth replacing if its a fix.

I will add more information once I get back from my trip and pull the thing apart.
