Lens hood for 28mm f/3.5 (K version)

The old Nikon 52mm hoods for 28mm lenses should also work, and those seem to be much more common, though probably not any cheaper than the new generic ones...

Nikon 8008 opinions?

Iíd rather use a PZ-1, but the 8008 was a solid camera.

N90 is nicer, though, and the 6006 is a smaller form factor...

And theyíre pretty cheap now, too, iirc...

K1000 how to tell Japan made version?

About 25 years ago, a guy was waxing poetic about the merits of his SRT101 and its full metal construction.
The grizzly old guy I was working with at the time said, "you know, the SRT series pioneered the use of nylon gears in cameras. First SLR to use plastic for the important bits".

I don't know if he was right or not, but if you aren't a collector, and the functionality is the same, does it matter much?

The Chinese-made K1000s I've used don't feel the same, but they don't feel that different.
It isn't like the difference between a Nikon FM and a FM10...

And in terms of feel, I'd rather shoot with any K1000 than a P-family camera.
They have other qualities that are attractive, but feel isn't one of them...

When you tested it, did you use the test button? Or did you use another camera?

The test button doesnít check the flash foot connections, just the discharge of the flash.

The easiest thing is to try it on a purely mechanical film camera with a hot shoe. You can also short the center pin on the foot with one of the side contacts (a paper clip works for this).

I had an AF200FG that gave up a few years ago. It would charge and fire fine with the test button but wouldnít work on a camera. It looks to share similar physical characteristics (apart from a fixed emitter...)

Ha. Somewhere (and I really donít know where), I have a photo of a laser show on the side of a mountain.

It was accidentally (and somehow perfectly) illuminated by a lightning bolt at just the right time.

The annoying thing is that it looks like a perfectly normal photo taken on an overcast day...

Lightning is annoying :)

DPR has a higher threshold of evidence for Pentax stuff among the audience here.

Iíd guess weíd completely believe them if the test were of a Canikonysonic lens...

If it really is ďPentax WeekĒ on DPR, Iíd expect a CP+ preview of some sort... itís that time...

Maybe Knew, maybe 70-200 f4, maybe 70-300 FF, who knows...

Maybe K1ii SE with a prism cover and preloaded settings :/

Whatever it is, I hope itís more than the 11-18 and one other thing...

I have an old, Mexican Volkswagen that is only labeled in kph (which my US-market iThing autocorrects to jpg...)

It feels really fast on the interstate at 120...

But at least we donít use furlongs/fortnight for speed...

Iíd hate to have to convert a focusing scale in microfurlongs or something...

Hasnít there been the observation that the Knew has a larger AF sensor (observed on the demonstrator)?

That would explain the second patent, perhaps :)

New information about new flagship's selling date

As an obliquely related item...
Iíve noticed embargoed dates from Canon and Nikon falling as DPR puts up reviews and news. I know some of those things are left from CES, but I expect some are releases in advance of CP+

So I wonder what Ricohís strategy will be... an early release or two or holding off until the event itself... or a little of each...

Help with purchasing a film camera.

The MX is a really nice travel camera.
I use mine with the SMC-M 24-35 when I want to travel with film, and it’s terrific.
The MX is really an upgrade over the K1000. It has depth of field preview, a self timer, an enormous viewfinder, aperture display in the viewfinder, and the compact size (it can also take a motor drive if you’re so inclined).
The KX is the same size as the K1000 but has the depth of field preview, aperture in the viewfinder, and timer. It’s also a bit more advanced than the K1000, but more like it than the MX is.
If you want something a step up from those functionally, I’d suggest the Super A/ Super Program. That’s the first taste of full program exposure, and it has ttl flash.

If you’re looking for the robust mechanical feel of something like the MX, you won’t find that in anything I’ve used with an EF mount.

That said, Canon made some really good EOS film cameras. They just aren’t the same thing.

Oh, and if you really like the FM2, get a KX. It's probably functionally close enough, and it takes your lenses :)

PENTAX Q-S1 Discontinued

Iíve long felt the Q platform was ripe for licensing. Itís small and inexpensive enough for someone to exploit in some creative ways while returning a few dollars to Ricoh to roll into other things.

Imagine a Q-compatible body using one of the new ~50mp phone sensors. Birders would love it...

Are you using the optical viewfinder for focus confirmation?

Itís hard for me to tell because your subject is the closest thing in the images, but your lens may be focusing in front of your subject.

Try a few shots using live view to focus. That will eliminate that possibility. If all your photos suddenly get sharp, youíll need to calibrate your focus, but you will have found the problem...

I've said before I love my folding cameras... and I want a couple more...

But the ones I have just can't hold up to the Rolleiflex in terms of usability or lens quality...

Here, shooting 400 ISO expired TMAX at 100... developing and (low res) scanning by the shop down the street.
I've done basically the same shot on several cameras, and I think the Rollei wins...
