it is only 40 lb. With or without a camera does not make much difference :). a tripod is also a piece of cake comparing to your lens, which might make things a little easier. you can do that!

I don't do video much. If I do, I use NEX-VG30 or RX100iii. But I do have some thing like stabilizer, focusing follower, shoulder supporter, external micro.... You have to have them to achieve the result you want for video.

And I believe, using the fp as is is not comfortable or efficient, neither for still, nor for video.

I understand that -- I use it one K3; and I am sure you also understand what we meant here: a lens that have the rear part deeply recessed into the camera and close to the sensor. Pentax does not have one yet and 40XS has the idea: to minimized the parts outside camera.
The 21mm is a much better sample, but I didn't know that.

we, Pentaxians, all need a camera that has a good grip and viewfinder. That is why I call fp a barebones camera.

Absolutely! That is why I think it is not worth to introduce a new shorter flange mount, because many lenses will still have to be away from sensor and are long. Other brands make thin camera and long lens and they don't balance at all. Many G lenses look exactly like a SLR lens with an adapter. But by putting the rear part inside the mirror box space, at least a new MLC can be very compact if we need wide lens -- long lens is long anyway.

Pentax priced the K-01 way too high at release; and the body design makes it hard to grip; CDAF only; no EVF... all these make K-01 wasn't very successful at the beginning. I guess that is why the following plan was cut.

Ironically, Pentax couldn't sell the K-01, so they cut the plan and put the camera on sell, and it became much more popular. I bought two of them when price was right.

Pentax should continue the K mount MLC. technology is ready: PDAF on sensor, EVF, new AF motor on lens...

You got it wrong. it is a completely same K mount, just needs more XS type lenses that does not work on DSLR. You can mount you k mount lens on it if you like.
If you don't like "XS" lenses, just use the larger K lenses on it.
If you prefer smaller combo, go get some smaller "XS" on it. simple as it.

This fp is a barebones machine, aimed for video, and needs a lot of accessories to get it work. Paint it yellow, and they can sell more accessories in yellow :)

No, I believe Pentax had a try on K-01 already. The 40XS is one of the lenses. We can have a 20-40 based on the same idea, make better use of the empty space of the mirror box, only leave two rings outside (and some space for grabbing the lens for mounting). Then a 70/2.4 xs .... we can still use the limit and any lens we love.

In fact, same K-01, just make the body much thinner, and let the mount sticks out, so the grip could be much deeper..add an EVF, improved AF..

So you would rather have a complete different mount MLC and you can not use any of your lenses on it?

I believe most will vote for a camera that is compatible to older lens, but also has it new designed compact lenses at FL between 18-100.

K-01 uses K mount, which is the reason we consider it is a real Pentax camera.
FP is for video more than for still image. It is a very difference device.

I still believe Pentax's mirror-less should still use K mount, so we can still use the old lenses. And Pentax can release some new lenses that perturb into the mirror box. this way, we can have a nice mirror less camera with good size of grip, EFV, and still be small when have lens mounted.

Controversial Opinion: Sony Was Right And We Were Wrong...

If I remember correctly, Ricoh has a patent about adding an AF sensor at the light path of viewfinder, to achieve continuous PDAF... Correct me if I was wrong.

Anyway, I agree with you: I like the EVF on mirror-less camera. I actually love it. But that is because I use MF old lenses on them only. I have > 50 old lenses that won't work on SLR but are great for A7ii, but I don't have a single AF FF lens for E mount. EVF is such a big plus for MF.

in terms of SLT, I own A77 and am still using it. Not a very good idea in fact: the reflector membrane is so thin and fragile, even the air blaster might cause some distortion on it and I am afraid it will affect the AF performance. low light noise is really an issue.

I hope Pentax can use a Hybrid Viewfinder as Fuji.

Not everyone likes mirror lens, but some others love them.

And this Tamron 55b is one of the best. $120 is a very good price if the glass and mirror are clean.

I am not alone in my neighborhood: I managed 2 workshop (kind of) in the community center a few years ago. I used pentax cameras (k20d and k7) in the classes. At least 5 of them bought Pentax after :).

Maybe he meant "quick shift" system?

I will suggest to clean to SDM connectors a little bit. or maybe take it off, bent the metal pice a little to make better connection?

Broken gear in autofocus

I contacted a friend in Japan and asked if he could get the gear from the store. Mailing a camera back and forth cost quite a lot. And I know I can fix it if I have the part.
If he can buy one, I will post here to see in case anyone else need it.

Thank you for the suggestion. This is a great idea! I am not sure if I can find anyone to help modeling the gear, but this is definitely an option!
I always think: there should be a software that if you connect a camera and scan (take a panoramic video) the objectives, you can get the 3-D models automatically. All you need to do is fine tune the details, such as size. It will dramatically increase the usage (and sale) of 3-D printer.
3-D modeling is not an easy job for regular users.

Monopods: Goodbye Oben CTM-2500, hello Gitzo GM2562T

I managed to wear out 2 monopod in ~4 years :)....
by using them as walking sticks mostly.
I have a handle bar that can be screwed onto the monopod and convert it into a nice walking stick. Of course I bought cheaper monopods. as walking sticks, they don't need to be extended long, so even cheap ones are stable enough.
I used them in water, mud, in a battle with a snake.
Only when I need a monopod, I put the small ball-head on.
This is now my standard outdoor hiking equipment.
