Will we ever get a 400mm f2.8 lens for sports photographers?

IF money was not an issue (and there are some for whom money is not an issue), i wouldn't mind putting perhaps USD200,000, USD300,000 to Ricoh and tell them, "hey guys, how about reverse engineer the Nikon 500PF? Here, this is my contribution to that"

Or "how about updating the DA560? Give it a new motor, improve the AF speed, and turn that damn tripod foot to face the other way".

Of course, i do not know if that's enough to get them interested or maybe even usd300,000 isnt even enough to move them an inch.

Perhaps, where i am, i see many people with money to burn.

I see so many Sony users with the Sony 600/4, or Canon users with their 600/4, that i wonder, it cannot be that Sony or Canon sponsors so many of them.

I even see many teenagers who are toting the Sony 200-600 or the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 (obviously those were gotten under a FMS, in which 'FMS' = 'Father-Mother Sponsorship")

And i really mean "teenagers".
I saw kids around 15, 16 years of age, toting a D500 with 200-500, or a Sony A6400/A6500 with the 200-600.

Granted, the 200-500 and 200-600 are not "expensive" (relatively speaking, that is).
But, if parents are of the mindset of not batting an eyelid shelling out SGD3000, 4000, 5000 on a hobby of their teenage kids, that does show, there really are those adults who have and able to and don't hesitate about plonking down USD8000 to USD12000 on lenses for hobbies.

Anyway, on something that is more possible.
Seriously, am hoping Ricoh consider to rebadge the Tamron 150-600 G2.

IF they really arent going to update the 250-600, then rebadge the Tamron.

Whoever is hoping Ricoh to come up with a 400/2.8.

One word >> Never.

Unless (and i'm purely imagining things here, but it is ok to imagine, sometimes).

1) somehow, there be enough of professional photographers and enough of advanced enthusiasts who simply much prefer OVF than EVF and decide that "ok, i'm going Pentax since they are the only ones with OVF these days".
(And by "enough", that means enough number of them come over to Pentax-land such that globally, Pentax share of the overall camera market increase to perhaps 12%, 13%)

2) BUT, likelihood of that ......
seemingly very little cuz it is a Chook and Egg situation.

Ricoh aint making no such lens unless more people become Pentax users.
BUT, there ain't going to be more becoming Pentax users (ie 12-13% of users globally) cuz they are thinking "Unless Ricoh pumps out a 300/2.8, 400/2.8, 500/4.5, 600/5.6, i ain't going over to Pentax".

Else, Ricoh could work with Sigma and Tamron to produce limited numbers of some lenses (by gathering users who are interested and willing to place a deposit for the lenses).
Lenses such as their 150-600 zooms, or something like the Sigma 500/4, Sigma 120-300/2.8 etc.

But. Dreaming.
Dreaming is free.
So, carry on dreaming.

** but seriously though.
Am hoping Ricoh rebadge Tamron's superb 150-600 G2.

If "bending" the "rules" is allowed (as in "interpretation" of it).

Then my choice will be >>

A) for manual focus Pentax film SLR, the LX will be it.

B) for AF film SLR.
MZ-S will be it (was a tussle between MZ-S and MZ-3 and MZ-L)

was also wondering, is there a little teeny weeny dent on it (the part the green arrow pointing at).

And whether possible to view the condition of that side of the lens hood (the portion the second green arrow pointing at).

i am actually awaiting the update from the local distributor where i am, on how much that particular piece of thing cost

(had also asked them about the one for DA* 60-250, and also the rear filter holder for DA560)

They should be getting back to me by this coming Friday. (They have already gotten back to me on the price of the rear filter holder for DA560. If anyone might be interested, do PM me. More than happy to help get it).

Cuz i want to get an extra as a back-up, in case something goes wrong.

Problem with Pentax's design is, if it is the detachable portion (the "foot") that goes wrong, one can buy a replacement.

But if it is any part of that rotating portion (the "collar") that goes wrong, suspect it is going to be a huge outlay as will need to send it to Japan.

The one on your 150-450, based on what's seen in the images, i can't figure out what or where exactly is "wrong". Just that it definitely looks odd and something isn't right.

the angle which the tripod foot isnt parallel to the lens, is rather acute.
Not too sure what resulted in that.

Had a look at my 150-450, and while it isn't perfectly parallel, isn't that acute.

I'm actually always quite worried about the tripod foot of this lens.
It is like, kind of fragile.

Hi guys, listing this great lens.

Sigma 100-300 f4 EX DG APO, full box set.

Lens is in great physical condition (other than the rather common white powder-like stuff on some parts of the rubber, but which could be wiped away).

Glass is clean and clear, no haze, no fungus, aperture blades no leak, open and close fine.

Aperture ring 'A' position clicks into place nicely.

AF functions fine on K-1, K-1ii, KP, K-70 and K-7 (which means, it'll pretty much work fine on whatever).

AF is fast, decisive, little to no AF hunting.

Asking SGD930 (inclusive of PayPal fee, exclude shipping).

Will ship worldwide via DHL (but this is a hefty lens and since is a full box set, shipping may cost a bit, which is totally understandable).

Returns only if item is not as described. Return shipping on buyer.

Cheers.

Bump for a great lens.

hi guys.

A very nice full box set of the zoom Sigma 120-400mm DG OS HSM for sale.

Asking SGD780 (inclusive PayPal fee, exclude shipping).
(SGD780 is around USD577/578, depending on exchange rate when processing payment).

Will ship worldwide, via DHL.
(PM me to check on estimated shipping charge).

Lens is in immaculate physical condition.
Glass is clean and clear, no fungus, no haze, aperture blades snappy.
Aperture ring 'A' position clicks into place nicely.

Tripod collar in very good condition.

Lens works well on K-1 / K-1ii, K-70, KP, K-7.

AF is so very silent, you could say it is almost eerily silent. Could nary hear a thing as it goes about its job.

Lens isn't too big or heavy for a 120-400mm zoom. Handholdable.

If you prefer not to have the box (so that could perhaps reduce the cost of shipping, that's fine as well).

If you would like to view some sample images snapped by this lens at f5.6, f6.3, f7.1 etc, be more than happy to snap and email it for viewing.

Returns only if item isn't as described. Return shipping on buyer.

Cheers.

Rest assured, indeed did google search and read some of what is already online.

However, since joining PF, have found that, by and large, members here could be counted on to share in a candid way, what has been their experience with Pentax equipment.

This isn't to say that whatever is already online, aren't candid or etc, am sure they are as well.

But if any PF members could share their experience of such Pentax scopes, i could also PM them to enquire further, about what they shared.

If it might seem redundant, guess it might be construed as such. But, just seeking honest candid views from a community i know could be counted on to provide exactly that (and probably more).

As before, thanks in advance, if any member with experience of using these scopes, could share more.

g'day fellow members.

wondering if any member/s have any experience with Pentax scopes.

Specifically >>
a) PF-65ED
b) PF-65ED II
c) PF-80ED
(not sure if there is PF-80ED II)

If any of you have experience with any of these, appreciate if you could share how has your experience with them been.

For those who have experience with both the 65 and the 80, what might be the considerations on which to go for?

Thanks in advance!
