I get the impression that many people have bad things to say about Pentax cameras until they see them in action, hold them in their hands or see what they can produce.

K1 is the final evolution step of Pentax camera technology. It offers a great wealth of features even 4 years after release. The next cameras require some serious improvements as well as new features under Ricoh management. From what we have seen from K-new, the AF controller isin place, AF module can only be better... Even some lenses are promised. The process is slow, but the longer we are waiting, the sooner it will arrive.
Let’s hope Pentax is ready when covid-19 is fading out and people are coming back to buy new gear. K-new and the DFA 85 would be perfect in summer. K1-new and more glass in 2021 will make an impression.
Let’s hope Ricoh is doing ok these days, sticking to the Pentax (internal) roadmap.

That was the same year I got my first Pentax - an ME SE. Unfortunately, I had to dump it a few years later when it got damp at Niagara and was never the same. It had 'proven itself' by then, so I got the "Super Program" on the left of my signature photo.

A new APS-C camera has just been shown. See Close-up Photos: New Pentax APS-C Flagship - Pentax Announcements |

This camera will be available in 2020. It is the successor to the K-3ii and, while no specifications have been released yet, it's likely to be a good step up from the KP and the K-70.

We go to the San Antonio Zoo monthly, so at first I thought you were reporting a sighting of me

If you were, it would have went something like, "I saw some crazy guy juggling three older Pentax bodies and more lenses than a professional wedding kit testing all his gear on an impatient flamingo while his family rolled his eyes and pretended not to know him." :p

are you happy with switching to FF?

I upgraded from K5 to K1ii and use mainly older manual lenses. It's great to be able to use these lenses as they were designed. Most noteworthy difference is in wide open performance. With many lenses on APSC I tried to avoid it. With FF I love it. Large censor squeesh out the best of limited sharpness and boosts the bokeh.

With APSC I mainly shot from stopped down to f8. With most lenses there was no gain in going to f11. With K1ii I have a lot more to choose from and go comfortably from wide open to f16. Due to shallower DOF it's sometimes needed to for smaller apertures than with APSC, but the drop in sharpness is not that visible, so it's no problem.

When I compare my shots with K1ii to ones taken with K5 it's clearly visible that there is more detail and finesse in the shots. Everything looks just a little bit better.

As I don't do wildlife, I like the view angle FF provide. My lens lineup feels more usable with it.

I don't see much use for my old bodies at the moment. They don't provide any more reach than K1ii in crop mode and I rarely need that. There are some occasions where I need more bodies, as there is no time and weather doesn't really allow lens changes, but i wish I had more FF bodies to take with me. I bought K1ii with thought that it would be my camera for a long time, but might end up getting also the next FF model or the one after that depending on censor improvements.

What a load of... (ahem... be nice, Mr. K!) nonense!

"Like it or not"? Nobody's entitled to decide for the entire market; , "you must have this and only this".
On the contrary, it's the market which decides the DSLR's continuous survival - in other words, "like it or not" is the deciding factor.
And despite the desperate mirrorless propaganda, DSLRs continue to be more popular than MILCs. People like them a lot.

A message from Adam and the PF Moderating Team:

In recent weeks and months we have received feedback - primarily from new members, but a few established ones too - regarding unnecessarily harsh, dismissive, rude and/or aggressive responses, especially (but not only) when someone raises concerns, doubts or criticisms of the Pentax brand.

PentaxForums is a brand-specific enthusiast site, and most of us here are Pentax enthusiasts. New members with critical views of the brand have a responsibility to understand the dynamics of the community they're participating in and consider the effect of their posts, and we've updated our Welcome & Forum Rules sticky post to reflect this, with guidelines for new members. Even so, all of our members - new and old - have a responsibility to respect each other's opinions (even when we disagree), remain courteous and friendly at all times, keep an open mind, and avoid jumping to conclusions, making personal comments or name-calling (terms such as "fanboy" or "troll", for example). We each represent these forums whenever we post, and it's incumbent on us to present our community as welcoming, respectful, tolerant and helpful to all.

We might reasonably hope that our most established members in particular would take this responsibility to heart, to ensure the continued popularity and longevity of our community and the brands we all support.

When faced with a post where you feel the only option is to dismiss it or "shoot it down", please consider the wider effects of your response. If rules have been broken, report the post to a moderator using the "yellow triangle" report post feature (not by PM, please) and avoid further involvement in the discussion until a moderating decision has been made. Otherwise, please be mindful of the standards referred to above when responding.

Most of all, please strive to be friendly and respectful at all times. There is never just one way to offer (or counter) an opinion. However ill-conceived or inflammatory a post may seem, responding in kind does nothing to help our community and its reputation.

The moderating team will not hesitate to take appropriate action against members who consistently impact the forum atmosphere in a negative way.

Thank you very much for your consideration, and - as always - many thanks for your valued contribution to the forums! :)

What do you mean by "they will require an adapter". All of the F mount lenses from film era I used dating back to 1959 worked just fine (some with a slight modification) on my D300s and to my knowledge still work just fine on D7xxx and higher series cameras (tho havent tested it cause i dont shoot Nikon any more).

Pentax K mount was introduced in 1975 so there were no "K mount lenses from 1950's".

How can you say that?

What other DSLR delivers both tripod & hand-held pixel shift, astrotracer, composition adjustment, and 5-axis stabilization? Oh and then there's the rugged body, weather resistance, awesome multi-way tilting LCD, body illumination, added control wheels, and night-mode LCD. Finally, there's extremely high sensor performance at a modest price.

I've had the privilege on numerous occations to submit custom software development bids. I always took the estimate I got from the software development team and multiplied by Pi (3,14). That worked out pretty good every single time.
