So I used software called Sequator to stack the frames. I stacked around 10 slightly underexposed images, after sequator does it's magic there will be a ton of data in the file, enough to pull a lot of detail out of the image. My settings were something like 6400iso, 8-10 second exposures, shot in a sequence. Sequator produces very clean images, so I got away with high iso without any issues. Basically - shoot at whatever iso and aperture that prevent stars from streaking while still having some detail for Sequator to do it's thing)

Wow, maybe I'm crazy, but af speed seems waaaay better in the dark now, I don't even use the assist light.. Excellent update! :) it still hunts, but it locks 100% of the time, and seems quicker as well. Didn't get a chance to test anything else yet.

Good light tripod to pair with GRIII

Well, my intent was getting a lightest/most compact tripod for travel I can afford for now, and both Sirui T-025SK and Oben CT-3535 fit the bill perfectly. Now it comes down to a hard decision - which one)

They both fold to about the same length, both weigh about 2lb (seems sirui is a bit lighter), both carbon fiber, similar height, and price.

Seems Sirui can hold about 4lb more though (9lb vs 13lb) and offers 6 years warranty.

Not sure yet, but I'm glad I looked into it, my Vanguard is very stable and I like it, but lugging it on hikes and trips is not very pleasant. Maybe I'll eventually upgrade to carbon for my big tripod as well.

Which model would you suggest? Looks pretty good as well, and it's carbon which I'm curious to try.

Dang it, both Sirui 025sk carbon and Oben carbon go for same price, and both look great. No idea which one I should pick lol. I have a feeling I will end up using this with my K-1 as well and my Vanguard might stay home most of the time..

Nice, 2lb! Way lighter than my Vanguard Alta Pro that I lug around with my K-1. Thanks, I'll have a look at this model.

I also found this on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PJ6RTHX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4mMIDbDSTE94W?tag=pentaxforums-20&

It's definitely smaller and less useful than full sized tripods, but it's under 1lb and will probably fit into my messenger bag.

Edit: watched few reviews on Sirui, looks like a perfect fit! It might even hold my K-1 with dfa 28-105 in a pickle (probably with center column folded). I also looked at MeFoto backpacker air, and while it's an interesting solution and it's also lightweight, it seems a bit too quirky for me.

GRIII loose adapter ring and Hyper Program mode

My ring falls off easily too. Especially when I'm putting the camera away into the GC-9 case (it's a bit tight). I almost lost a ring at the festival. I eventually just took it off and kept it in my pocket. Ring is definitely locked in place, but it's easily moves back into the unlock position.

Another little quip I found - the wheel gets in the way and I constantly find my exposure either too high or too low (I'm pretty much locked into manual mode with auto iso, so wheel controls the exposure compensation). I guess with time I'll build muscle memory and it won't happen too often.

Was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a very light and compact travel tripod to pair with GRIII. I will definitely switch to using GRIII for all travel photography, and I want to have an ability to take a nice long exposure shot, or stack few exposures for blending. I have a gorillapod and it's fine to just throw in a bag, but its way too short and limiting imo.

Budget is a bit of a consideration as well, so I won't be buying the Peak design one, even though it looks pretty cool)

I'd be curious to try it! I want to build a nice little system with my GRIII, one of those viewfinders is on the shopping list. Also want the wide lens, filter adapter, and lightpix labs q20 flash)

I made a mistake of reading comments under PP news article about Sigma leaving k mount. Surprising how many people are gleeful about it. It's like Pentax personally bullied them in school and now they're having their revenge) I'll never understand the tribalism of photo community..

GR III - extended warranty?

Just FYI, I called Ricoh, they told me they currently do not have extended warranty for GRIII. The ones at adorama for POS cameras are for their compacts, and one for MILC systems is for Pentax Q line. So I bought a 3 year extended warranty from Upsie for $115, covers all repairs and even accidental damage.

It is beautiful, although it's rather touristy) Tennessee made it into a big attraction, so expect huge crowds of people and really well designed paths. Also, there's a cafe right at the top of that cliff lol, had lunch with the best view.

GRIII really impresses me. I was considering bringing my K-1 kit to my weekend getaway to Chattanooga, TN, but decided to just take the GR and save myself the trouble of walking around with few pounds of gear in summer heat. Ended up with a bunch of shots I was happy with, and even managed to take a decent landscape shot with no tripod from a single exposure) I hope my K-1 won't stay in the dry cabinet for too long lol.

Oh so it's not regular price? The point and shoot warranty was $10 as well. Im not sure the ILC would be the correct one. I'll call Pentax tomorrow, make sure. Thanks!

Quick question - which one is correct for the GRIII? Adorama has pentax point and shoot extended warranty, but it's like $10, doesn't seem like it would cover a $1000 camera?

I don't see any info on it at Pentax website, do they even offer it for GRIII?

GR III - Full snap with back button focusing

Was wondering if I'm doing something wrong lol.

I can't seem to setup full press snap when I'm using the Fn button for triggering auto-focus, and setting shutter button to only lock AE. Is there a setting I'm missing? Full snap seems to work fine if I'm using the shutter button for triggering AF, it jumps to whatever distance I set for it. But with Fn button being the AF trigger, whichever way I press the shutter button it stays on the point I focused on with the Fn button ignoring the snap distance.
