Nice results. The smaller the negative, the higher the MTF of the scanner's optical path needs to be to get the best from the medium. And that usually means a scanner that is out our price range. With medium format and a commodity scanner, you can get good tonal scale and decent image quality for the buck at home.

How much has the density of the film's base change compared to any fresher TMY film you have around? I ask because I was shooting up some 2013 expired Delta 3200 and I could see the difference in the film's base with a recent fresh roll I shot with my eyes. The faster the film I suppose the more sensitive it is to background radiation in the long run.

100TMX has decent exposure latitude.

Edit:

TMX vs FP4 characteristic curves. The characteristic curve of a film is also developer dependent but you can see FP4 has a broader shoulder than TMX.

Long toed (i.e. it's characteristic curve) BW film typically has a narrow exposure latitude. The tabular grain BW films I've tried have good latitude. You can get both more exposure latitude and higher DR by highlight compression ( over expose and under develop - developer dependent though) with a lot of BW films. So much so that I don't use a light meter outside anymore when I employ that technique.

I develop my own film. I did a test at EI 200, 400, 800 and 1600 ( not shown) all on the same roll at the standard C-41 development time. Portra 400 has a huge exposure latitude ( derived from their motion picture film) . In the shadows, it has finer grain at EI 200.

First time at the Fremont Oktoberfest, Washington. What it lacked in Oktoberfest ambience, charm and food, it made up for in a good beer sampling menu.

Is that the full frame or is it cropped a bunch? I'd think you'd have to be doing something really different to get that large of a grain from 400TX even in small format. You could use it as a special effect. Your #6305 post appears to has excessively large grain for 100TMX too. Perhaps it's your developing process.

I'd get large, clumpy grain when I developed 320TXP Tri-X in Rodinal. That film/developer combo were not very compatible at all.

That test has way too many variables to control and is far too simple to draw any conclusions about what is the best.

Market signs. More expired Delta 3200 using my Fuji GSW690III rangefinder. These I just shot at my slowest handhold shutter speed in hopes some would have enough exposure. The first one I even supported one end of the camera on the table.

The cost of going to the fair has sure gone up. I wanted to take my camera on this and other rides for some slow exposures but the lines were too long of a wait because I also wanted to shoot up some aging Delta 3200 during dusk.

Thanks. I was happy to get the shot. I've shot other celestial things on film too. I'll repost this done a few years ago.
