So, if it does NOT use that chip, will you make one last post to this forum admitting that you like to make things up, and leave us to either take photos or read things like... actual announcements? Can I get an answer from you on that?

All sorted now.
After much trawling around the Adobe site I found the link for the download of ACR 8.1 - and adwb - you should be able to do the same thing. It shouldn't matter what version of PS you're using, you should be able to use ACR 8.1 and patch it to your PS.

How Adobe came to own the world of photo editing I have no idea. Good software, HORRIBLE website and useability of that website.

Adobe would seem to disagree because on their website they say that ACR is free, and like I said, i HAVE ACR 8,1 but Photoshop won't look at it...

Also you misunderstood. Lightroom is 100% up to date. Photoshop is not up to date but will not go online to update... because it's stupid.

So what are my options for a flash that will shoot faster than 1/180?

I actually meant on the hot shoe for that application. Neither off camera flash or an ND filter are appropriate for weddings where you quickly go from indoor to outdoor and have to capture both, preferably with a bit of a fill flash outdoors.

Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Coming for Pentax!

Dude, you just quoted someone saying "Nice lens" referring to the Sigma 100-300 f4 on a D800... and then you say "What I don't like about the lens is it's useless on FF cameras..."

??!! What? This guy just showed us some nice shots taken on a D800 - which is a FF.
I think what you have done is changed topics without informing us so, and that you are now talking about the 18-35 f1.8 - but the person saying "Nice lens" is talking about the 100-300 f4, which is a full frame lens.

I guess that was a joke - but it takes 1 photographer at least 15 seconds - WHOOPS, missed the shot, that I'm getting paid to take... because I was screwing in a filter so I could still use a flash, rather than just using an HSS flash.

hi,
so, I just upgraded to Lightroom 5 - great. Only when I send my photos over to Photoshop CS6, it says that the camera raw is not up to date and so some things might not be rendered properly - and it's true. The radial filter that is in LR5 doesn't turn out at all once it opens in PS (that's if I say "open anyway"), and there might be some other quality issues too, not sure. So to do it I have to edit as a TIFF saved by Lr, which isn't ideal because it gives me more copies of the image and blah blah blah - I just want it to do it properly. It says I need Camera Raw 8.1.
Now, HERE IS THE THING - I look in Photoshop and go to "Update", and it says it can't connect because maybe my "browser settings are incorrect". It doesn't think to tell you maybe what the browser settings should BE (good going Adobe) - I turned off my Firewall and tried again but same story.

So I tried manually updating. I went to the Adobe website and after way more searching than should ever have to be done (side note: their web developers need to read a book called "Don't make me think - a guide to web usability") anyway, I found the camera raw and DNG coverter 8.1. Great, downloaded, installed... but still Photoshop only SEES Camera Raw 7.4. Adobe doesn't provide instructions on how to make PS see the new version of Camera Raw. When I open a raw file with Photoshop, it opens in Camera Raw 7.4. When I check in PS what versions of ACR it's using, it says 7.4... and nothing's changed.

SO - how do I either
A: make Photoshop update it from the program like it should (do you have any tips as to what my browser settings SHOULD be, seeing as Adobe is arrogant enough to claim mine are wrong but not helpful enough to suggest how)
or B: get it to see that I have installed Camera Raw 8.1...

?

Thanks.

That's garbage - even the photo you supplied to "prove" it proves the other way. That is a perfectly good photo for a soccer mum, but it's absolute garbage otherwise.
If you PAID someone (i,e, a professional) to come and take photos of your kids soccer, you would want a LOT better than this or your money back.

I don't even know if it was also you who said it, but someone here said that the photo contests on here suggest that the amateurs have caught up with the pros - ummm, yeah 1 in 15 photos in the contests supports that. The other 14 prove that pros are pros for a reason. Look at the "food" contest - the winning shot was OK (no disrespect to the maker of it) but it wasn't like INSANELY good, the second and third place were OK as well. The rest were just... nice shots. They weren't pro.
And who is to say there are no pros on here anyway? They are allowed to submit and probably do occasionally - so you can't say that "because the photos in the contests are good, amateurs are catching up to pros" - because A: you don't know that the winning shots aren't by pros and B: many of the shots that don't win are not great, and certainly not of pro standard.

Try that at a wedding when the couple runs from inside to outside and you need to drop the shutter speed to like 1/500 but you still want to use some fill flash - got time to attach a fliter?

What?
You said FA, do you not mean PK or something?

It will have auto-aperture, I am fairly sure of that (the 85 does, the 35 does, and the 50 is only going to be NEWER than them both) - so it will behave as an A lens not a K or M lens.

Ever used the DA* 50-135mm? the Sigma 18-35 looks to be very similar dimensions, sure a little heavier but it's a way shorter focal length - and if you've ever used the 50-135, you'll know it handles beautifully. I don't think that's going to be a big issue, especially for someone wanting a lens of this quality/price.

Thanks for this,
So will the absolutely most basic cable (just a 3.5mm mono type thing), used with an HSS flash, will that still work? or does the cable have to be "intelligent"?

Thanks everyone.

its for balacing flash light with outdoor light, I have acquired a Sigma that supports HSS and am pretty happy with the results even though the rest of the flash is a horror (build quality, usability)

on this site, that's where.

Sigma EF-610 DG Super reviews - Pentax Camera Accessory Review Database

Sigma EF-530 DG Super reviews - Pentax Camera Accessory Review Database

Those are 2 of the 3 Sigma flashes that support HSS and both of them get pretty average reviews.

Hello, just trying to work out what options there are for a flash that fires faster than the "limit" of 1/180.
I thought that the Yongnuo radio triggers would help me out even with a "dumb" flash but it seems I'm still capped at 1/180. So far I've worked out: the genuine Pentax flashes of course (AF540, AF360), the Sigma supers... which are hard to find and a bit expensive considering they don't get good reviews. are those my only options?!

I often find even my 16-50 a bit short for weddings etc. Lucky I have the 50-150 on another camera but I think this 18-35, will only "suffice" for weddings, because of the f1.8, I will definitely notice the drop in zoom.

This looks awesome!
I'd still prefer a 55 f1.2, because of our cropped sensors, 55 kind of fills in the portrait segment coming in at 82mm f1.9 equivalent - but the auto aperture that this boasts over my Porst version would be worth it.

Marumi graduated ND filter

You will find that their use is diminishing somewhat, with software programs available that will do pretty much the same thing.

I have looked at hundreds of results and still find the results from a good grad ND set up more pleasing than software doing the same thing. I'm sure why it is, but your eye is very clever and seems to always "tell me" if it's been done in HDR style (even if it's a conservative and tasteful HDR) whereas with filters I just think "Wow".
