KP Grips

Just wanted to confirm, in Austria all three grips are included in the box.

By the way, do you think there are chances third party grips will be available? Maybe even costum built, or adding additional functions? I think Ricoh missed an opportunity by not building an interface below the grip. Despite the suboptimal antenna position, an O-GPS2, or additional accesories could have been attached. However.

KP and D-BH109 AA-battery holder, does it work?

Thanks. I was wondering, because the D-LI109 battery used seems the same as the one in the models where it does fit. A pity, would have been perfect as an emergency backup for trips to remote places with unsecure power delivery.

Right, would make sense to relate to astrophotography, with high corrections. I guess the used phrasing is too explicit as to have been just a strange translation of "stellar".
However, I'm really looking forward to this lens, well corrected wideangle would have been the only pull factor for me to look at FF, but this could be now the perfect company with my KP.

Ricoh GRZ coming soon?

Well, from a realistic point of view, the Pana Lx-100 has a chip slightly smaller than 4/3 and a comparable focal range and that might be the upper limit of what can still be regarded compact. I would have assumed this cam from 2016 might have been planned along this sizepoint, maybe even with a 1" sensor.

On the other hand, just out of curiousity I would like to know what might be technically feasible with APS-C without constraints from register distance and a retractable system like the 18-50. But no chance seeing "24-60mm f1.7-2.8 lens" and "a smaller body" than GR with APS-C, even less FF, sorry.

Agree with both of that. Especially WR, to avoid dust on the sensor would make it perfect. Bring a new model with the sensor of the KP, basic dust protection and if fancy a better/metal bayonettlike extension tube for the existing WA, macro and a future short tele adapter and you have a serious mirrorless competitor.

Well, if it's not a single focal length, preferrably equiv. 28mm, it's not a GR... ergo also not a replacement. If they bring a APS-C compact with a fast zoom lens in a smaller body than a GR I might be in purchasing mode. But I highly doubt that.

KP on Closeout at Adorama?!

Looking at this hurts me physically: in Europe the KP is still at 1299 Euro = 1450 US-Dollar! And, if they would have kept the GPS instead of the "flash" I would have bought it also at that price already. But for now K3-II is the only option, which is unfortunate because of the sensor performance of the KP... (sorry for the OT rant)

DFA*50 1.4 coming

What is your point again? I think it is trivial knowledge that it might be easier to produce a slower lens, and obviously also possible to make it smaller and lighter. If you want to claim that 5% resolution advantage at widest aperture of these two lenses is "just the same" I'm out. That's just cheap, and repetitive.

And, did you have a look at the wide open performance of the Canon 50 1.2? Yes, it is much lighter, but...

Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 USM L (full format) - Review / Test Report - Analysis

Anyhow, I still don't get it, if resolution is a hype and size of lenses is so crucial, why would the K-1 with it's 36 Mp be my choice from the beginning...?

I don't get it. What is so hard to understand in this lens? If Pentax has already a D(F)A* 55 1.4 SDM, a DA 50 1.8, a 43 1.9 limited and you think this is it, then go for it. If you like the rendering of these, what else would you wish for? It's like ("inaccurate comparison alert") loving the sound of the tube amplifier and disliking modern linear output of modern amplifiers. Nothing wrong with this, it's a matter of taste (acquired or not) and every discussion about it will be useless.

But a modern imaging system deserves components which try to minimize errors (CA, coma, loss of resolution and contrast towards corners, vignetting, distortion, field curvature, etc...) the same way as an audio recording will look for linearity throughout it's recording chain. There are certain characteristics which might please the viewer/listener more than this images/recordings, but (and you might like it or not) some of these are easily reproduced with digital filters, if you want that. You can not correct for distortion, vignetting etc. without loosing contrast and sharpness in the corners etc. The more even the image from the beginning, the more options you have to work with.

I definitely don't see a problem if a manufacturer of optical recording systems offers the costumers more choices with including highly corrected lenses additionally to the already existing ones. I'm in photogrammetry and one of my preferred tools is the Ricoh GR, because of it's lens characteristics, it has incredibly even sharpness which is priceless if you need to work with overlapping images and produce textures for 3D models.

I'm pretty sure many astrophotographers would love the roadmapped high performers in the Pentax lineup, amongst many other people and if some prefer the rendering of the existing lenses, where would they suddenly have disappeared or what would have rendered them useless?

Your attempts to thoughts always make me think. Hmm. Most of us lack any insight in camera business. Most keep their interpretations of it at a reasonably low level. Helps to avoid dissapointment if the normative power of the factual proves speculation wrong, again and again.

I have my doubts that a difference in nominally 5.6 vs 4k might be visually distinguishable, especially if the implementation and processing pipeline is not known. Your calculation makes sense but your conclusion that there might be a discrete numeral threshold above which everything is fine and below everything unusable is just an exaggeration and does not consider many additional factors, processing, implementation, perception.
I have used the Yi action camera and was utterly disappointed by the image quality, especially as I did some attempts at image based modelling, which has proven to work decent enough with GoPros.

rumored Pentax mirrorless camera - something between K1000 and K-01

I do agree on this kit. 20-40 and 70 ltd seems to be a perfect combination. I would wish for a DSLR which would be designed as the natural match for this. Sure, retro style might have grown old, but some trickling down of the design language from the K-1 to a new APS-C model optimized for compactness and durability could still stand up to the Fuji and Olympus mirrorless combinations. I know, k-3 is almost there, but with the k-1 there might be room for another, even smaller metal body. No compromise in ergonomy, and much better battery life than all mirrorless cousins, I would be in. I am sure the Oly and Fuji could be matched, in most dimensions. And I would not care for thickness, especially if looking at the combinations with lenses mounted.

Then my only concern would be in WA. The DA 15 has it's qualities, but for my purpose I would need minimal vignetting and maximally even sharpness across the field (stitching and 3d-modelling). Here a GR might still be a better addition, or in best case a successor with environmental protection.

Q-s1 discontinued. The end of Q?

I see the point with mobile phones taking over occasional shooting, I use mine with its good sony wideangle and acceptable sensor also, but it still is far from being a "photographic camera". The handling, the interface, the speed of changing settings and the sheer fun to use it are nowhere near the experience I have with the Q.

When I travel light the (original) Q is with me most of the time with the standard 01 lens, with easy access to the quick wheel and frequent use of the high contrast bw or capturing raws for PP. The phone is used for wideangle and snapshots.

I could imagine that the future of the mount could be in providing photographic tools with features neither a mobile phone nor a standard megazoom digicam will be able to achieve. If you ask me I would be a sucker for a Q with a 1.7" foveon sensor, a special bw sensor, one with a UVNIR* sensor - or maybe just pixelshift? They might not cost so much at this size but could bring a lot of fun to users that can not or don't want to afford these features in larger insanely expensive dedicated cameras.

However, just a thought and wish, not a prediction.

*I'm aware of the fact that the reduced amount of light might make this a less desireable option.

K-1 no nfc

NFC transfer? As far as I know Near Field Communication is not a technology to send large amounts of data, neither for remote control. It is, which can be quite handy, just speed up the connection process between two devices by physically holding them close together and establishing a WIFI connection between them, which then is used for transfer and control. But if you have paired your devices once this should be also pretty fast and straightforward without NFC. If changing the devices frequently is your thing you might profit, otherwise it is a matter of some clicks the one way or the other.

Which would be perfectly normal as the K-50 was sold cheap, the K-3 was new, the 645Z was introduced, the KS-1 and QS-1 came at the middle of the year. The GR managed to be sold as fast as the production was running. Even more, some purchases in 2015 may have been withheld with the now confirmed advent of the full 35mm frame model.
