Anyone using K1 with Sigma 4.5/500?

Hello,
I am also using Sigma 500/4.5 on K-1. It is a good combo. A bit on heavy side.
The only my complain is that the central focusing point of K1 is a bit too large and thus when focusing on a bird in a forest - camera tends to focus on leaves or branches rather than bird. So, I have to switch to one of the side focusing points next to the central one.

The estimates are free of charge. So, if he will be not able to fix the lens you will have to pay just shipping.
And he has great experience with Pentax lenses and very reasonable prices.
Good luck with it.

I think it is something about difference in intensity between some pixels producing white dots and general signal. In some bodies this difference is smaller than in other resulting in normal behavior and sensors producing white dots.
Just my thoughts.

K-1 white dot issue. ?

I think MJKoski is right - the white dots issue has something to do with the sensor native sensitivity adjustments. The darker frame - the more hidden/negligible are white dots.
If to take JBox pictures from the first upload with ISO100, LENR off, 30 sec, boost exposure 4 stops up and convert to JPEG, it is possible to see some faint dots (200% crop).
But that is really nothing if to compare to really affected bodies. Really nothing to worry.
If this is the case, the calibration of sensor native sensitivity should really help.
But I know nothing about sensors so I could be wrong. It is jsut pure speculation.

I think it is matter of statistic. If 10 cameras are behaving one way and one is different, then I would assume that the faulty is the later one, rather than 10 cameras.
It is not questionable that the issue exist, at least for me.
From other hand, only Pentax/Ricoh can solve this situation by repairing the affected cameras. The only way that forum members can assis is to check thier K-1 and report here and/or to pentax if their camera has white dots/dark stripe problem or not. Only publicity of the issue might make Pentax to take an actions on it.

Oh, I do not think that people make a jokes on others. It is just different level of acceptance of the situation. This community is really great and helpful.
It is Pentax responsibility as a company is the problem but not the community here.
Anyway I am not loosing hope that the issue will be recognized by Ricoh and fixed.

Pentax specs for Pentax branded Tamron lenses...do they make a difference?

Tamron has at least two factories where they grind lenses: Hirosaki factory and Namioka Factory in Niigata prefecturs. The later one is producing asferical and ultra small diameter lenses. Also the other plant is located in China - Foshan Factory.

Dear MJKoski and Class A,
Thank you for your comments and support. I am not giving up on Pentax, I really love my glasses and K-5. I want to like the K-1 and I would say - I do. But...
I am shooting a lot at night and the white dots are an issue for me. Pentax advertised K1 as camera for astrophotography. Furthermore, if to take picture at ISO100, 10 sec exposure and increase the exposure +2EV in lightroom - I am getting tons of the white dots. Maybe I am wrong, but this is unacceptable for normal real life usage. These are settings that are not something rare and extreme. Yes, I can remove them in post-processing. But that is always a matter of time.

I agree that it is not worse to worry and I do not really worry. I know that there will some solution anyway. Just need to be patient. But I want people to do their job as they should and do not understand if they just ignore the issues. If I will go to doctor and he will tell me - do not worry, this tuberculosis infection that you have is not an issue. Drink hot tea and spend some time at home. I probably will be not that happy with this doctor. If I will be teaching my students improperly, ignoring important issues, then their will be no one who will select you the correct drug for particular disease. Same here. As the majority of K-1 do not have the white dots problem, it means that the body I bought is affected. And that means that company that produced the problematic product should take care of it. This is their job. But they just refused to do it. I understand that it is a matter of number of requests. If more people will report the problem, the higher chances for me to get my camera serviced. From other hand if I will convince Pentax Germany that the issue exist - other users will benefit from it as well. Even those that do not know about the problem. Since the problem do exist. And it is not just me. I spoke with another local K-1 owner and his body is not affected. We had two cameras next one each other and tested in the same conditions. His K-1 images were perfectly clean.

I contacted Pentax Germany one more time. Will see what they will tell.
I honestly just do not understand how it is possible to overlook such well known issue.
And no, I am not pessimistic. I always characterize myself and slightly idiotic optimist. :D I like my K-1 and want to have fun with it. I got him a new toy just yesterday - A15/3.5.

I spoke to Tamrom representatives recently in local camera fair. He said that Tamrom is making some of the Pentax lenses and also craft/carve the lenses (glasses) for Pentax. Not sure how true it is but he was speaking very confidently.
He also said that Tamron had a lens roadmap in which only some lenses will be in K mount when others are not planned to be released for Pentax - this is what we already know. But he said that it was a strategical decision made by Tamrom several years ago and they will stick to it for some time for now, unfortunately.

My camera came back from Ricoh Germany but they did not fix the issue and for now they refuse to recognize the issue.
I tested two more K-1 bodies in local store where I bought mine, and they both have the same problem.
I am kind of a bit desperate. Since Ricoh Germany do not want to recognize the issue.
Nikon do accept this as a fault and provide servicing:
Service Advisory

But Pentax - not.
I have a set of amazing lenses for FF and was really looking forward to use K-1. I still can do it, but knowing that it has the problem kills all the fun that I can have with this camera (it is more about psycho than about image quality, unfortunately).
What should I do? should I keep fighting with Pentax Germany?

Thanks a lot to everyone.
So, we do have transilluminator, but it is a part of DNA gel documenting system and only has UV lamps. Plus, only black-white camera system.
In addition bacteria that we are working with like to eat a good food - so all media are not transparent - we are using oat, soy powder to grow them. I am not sure if this will work.
I think we will just buy the copy stand with two lights and diffuser for them, plus polarizing filter for the camera. Will see how it will work. We got a good offer directly from Kaiser Fototechnik.
Thank you one more time. You are great community.

Dear forum members.
I am looking for advice. At work we often deal with taking pictures of Petri plates with bacteria on them. Plates are 9 cm diameter.
Plates are plastic and highly reflective. Thus I always can find phone or camera reflections on the plate surface. Sometimes even self-portraits.
If I understood correctly, I need either light tent or copy stand with the appropriate lights set placed under 45 degree angle to avoid reflections. Pictures should be taken mostly strictly from the top.
I am leaning toward buying this copy stand set:
Kaiser R2N CP Image Capturing Set 205304 B&H Photo Video

But would like to hear other opinions.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Yuriy
