I really like those light patterns, and I like the original composition as-is. I agree that the person adds to the image; it's more of a story when he/she is included.
If it were me, I would try dropping the saturation a little (maybe add vibrance to counter-balance) and also play with the contrast to get it overall lower. I think those two things might pair well with the softer focus.
A straight monochrome conversion does look promising too. (Did you know if you're on Windows 10 that WIN-Ctrl-C will toggle your whole display to monochrome?)

My K50 is my 6th camera (in my lifetime). I learned on my dad's film SLR which only had a light meter for "automation". In grade school I won a disc camera (the kind with 10 or 15 little pieces of film arranged in a circular cartridge). Time went on and I upgraded and so on. By the time I decided I wanted an DLSR, I was experienced enough to have some idea of what I valued, and Pentax came out on top.
I think if a serious beginner wanted to pick up "real" camera for the first time, I bet he or she would probably end up at DPReview or somesuch. Where would that lead? Probably not to Pentax.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
I've been by this tree almost every summer for the past several years. It's majestic (the photo doesn't do it justice). Every time I go there...I wonder if it will still be standing.

I've been liking it quite a bit. I've found it much easier/faster in general to get the end product I want out of Photolab than other raw editors I've used. In particular I've been really pleased with Prime and the ability to do local edits in a parametric editor. Especially the control points.

Just want to add this tidbit. I purchased a license for PL 3 last year during their launch sale. A few weeks later they had a Black Friday sale that was an even better deal. I know it's rolling the dice but just thought I'd share that info.
I've been very happy with PL3 over the past year..

Hmm...interesting discussion. You said essential. Essential to me means exactly what you need to accomplish what you set out to accomplish, and no more.
Checking out your flickr album, I saw lots of really great travel photos there; a wide range of interesting subject matter. I didn't look at any image data. Going just from the images, I think your essential lens is the DFA 28-105. A bit big for travel maybe (or maybe not, according to your preferences), but it gives a decent focal length range for travel, is WR, and would work with both your full frame and crop body.
For a second lens, add the 15-30. Also WR. Maybe you'd put this in the essential category if you need that range. It would help with wide end coverage on your K3-II especially. I don't think you have this one already, but you could easily fund it with the proceeds of selling other stuff if that were a consideration.
Now, if I wanted to keep some primes around too, I'd add the three amigos and the 100 mm macro to the list of lenses I'd want to keep.
Disclaimer: I'm going by specs and reputation with these choices--I haven't had the pleasure of shooting with any of the six lenses I mentioned. Incidentally, or maybe not so incidentally, I have something like the junior version of the kit I just recommended for you.
Edit: Sorry @-JW-: I was writing while you posted your latest reply...

I think monochrome. With all that primer showing, she looks too much like the Sea Tiger in Operation Petticoat. |

This discussion motivated me to withdraw my for-sale listing on the 18-135. I was on the fence anyway--I suppose I should keep one modern AF lens around.
