Mirror stuck in up position on SP500 camera

Hello,

Most likely your mirror return gear needs lubrication.
While this picture is from a different model (K1000) it is very similar and illustrates where it is:

That would need to be cleaned and put the SMALLEST drop of light oil (like sewing machine oil). Exercise it a few times and it should start responding.
That is one of the most common causes of it but of course it could be something else.

Thanks,
Ismael

Hello,

As far as I understand, the interference was with the auto pin pushbar in screwmount cameras, not the mirror. K mount don't have that pushbar.

Pentax A3000 Film Camera Advances 4 frames

Hello,

I don't think any setting would cause that. As far as I know the A3000 does not have exposure bracketing which can behave somewhat similar to that. I would suspect there is something wrong with the winder mechanism not detecting or counting properly. Is it always 3 blank frames?

How to increase pixels when shooting photos of artwork?

A possible problem with taking multiple images and stitching is that you need absolutely identical lighting conditions or you will spend hours trying to make them match. Since you are doing it outdoors, that can be tricky. Alignment is also critical between shots.

Hello,

There are no scale model kits of the C8 Corvette, so I heavily modified a black diecast toy.

A K5 or any of its variants (K5, K5II, K5IIs) is a great camera still relevant today.
As for film, No, we never have enough film cameras. :)

Hello,
I started this in 2015 but it was until 2021 it was finished. Modified Hot Wheels Salt Shaker.
Scratch built canopy, rear wing with supports and parachute. Machined parachute tube. Paint is 1956 Chevrolet Nassau blue (one of the many colors with that name). Gotta have a Chevy connection somewhere :)

Blacking? Flecking? what's the black stuff called on the inside of a lens?

Hello,

In scale modeling we use "flocking" to simulate carpeting. It is a very fine powder and it comes in different colors.
This is a 1/25 scale interior tub:

But I wouldn't use this in a lens. Any flat black paint would do better as this will shed dust all the time.

*EDIT* I'd use acrylic flat black paint. Make sure it is not glossy. A sharpie is usually glossier (higher risk of reflections) but could work in a pinch.

I found more information: This abandoned DC4 was involved in a taxiing accident in 1992 when it hit a parked aircraft and caught fire. I thought it was longer than that.

Hello,

This abandoned aircraft has been there for years. This is near the airport so I think at the time it was probably still airport land.
Test pics from January 2021 of a refreshed Pentax MX, tested with a Kodak Gold 100 roll expired almost a decade ago.

And we have pictures! WOHOO!

Hello,

In mid January I loaded my last Kodak Gold 100 roll in my stash (expired almost a decade ago) in the MX and off I went...

Straight scans downloaded from Wayne's. No PP whatsoever other than resize and signature. Negatives are in transit and as usual I will try to scan my own to see if I can improve on these. But Dwayne's color scans are usually very good.

I'm happy!

Not a parts camera anymore.

Hello,

Keep in mind the battery cover is part of the circuit. They are conductive chrome even on black cameras. I wouldn't paint the base because the black in the rest of the camera is not paint. It is electroplating or anodizing with a very particular sheen to it. You will end up with either a too dull or too shiny finish. I know you don't care for the meter, but painting the bottom plate will probably cause problems with completing the battery circuit if you later decide to fix it. If you still decide to paint it, I'd use a satin or flat finish paint. Gloss/shiny will probably look out of place. I'd recommend using automotive products: sanding, etching primer, paint and clear. Hardware store spray paint will probably not withstand use and wear.

Thanks,
Ismael

The Pandemic and mail-in film processing
Posted By ismaelg

Hello,

Needless to say, the pandemic has impacted our lives everywhere. For over a decade, ever since all local film processing places disappeared, I've used Wayne's Photo in Kansas exclusively for my film processing. Great quality, great service and reasonable pricing. They have a disclaimer in their website that due to the pandemic's impact in supplies, a 10 day delay is expected. What used to be a few days turn around time suddenly became 2 weeks. Fine. Negs usually arrive a few days after receiving the online scans. USPS transit time to and from them has never really been an issue. Then a few months ago it was 2 and a half weeks from the time they received the roll to the time I got my online scans. Now my latest roll was received (credit card charged) over 3 weeks ago. I called them today and I was told it was still in process so it would be a few more days.
I am by no means ranting on them. I'm sure they are doing their best and as long as the quality is there I'll wait. But I think it must be hurting them and most likely the story is similar for other places as well.
What's your experience?

Thanks,
Ismael

Hello,

Beware that in the MG, the battery cover screws to the battery compartment, not to the baseplate.

Maybe in your camera A the battery compartment was replaced and you are actually grabbing that thread instead of the baseplate. Can you swap the baseplates to see what happens?

At What Point Did Your Pentax Digital Camera Become "Good Enough"?

I have many cameras but I always go back to the K100D Super. Yup! 6MP! Easy to handle files, good enough for publication, printing and of course online. Shutter count is over 32,000
But if I have to keep only one it would probably be the K5-II.

Hello,

I am not an expert, but I've never heard of such a change in the middle of a run. From your picture it seems the battery cover you have may not be the correct one. It seems a little bit small.

Asahi Pentax AP - Black Painted

Hello,

What a beauty! That brassing and the shine suggests it is an original black one. Black models not only had the top and bottom covers in black: Also the screws, lens mount piece, the rewind crank, the advance lever, frame counter, slow speed knob and the back door hinge and latch. From what I see in your pictures all those boxes are checked.
Repaints are usually too glossy or too dull, as it is hard to replicate the original black finish which was some sort of plating or anodizing.
My suggestion? Send it to me and I will dispose of it properly! :)
Joking aside, leave the brassing alone, keep it clean and enjoy!

Thanks,
