Ricoh GR III

The SR-based dust removal they've gone for is a good compromise. You get SR, and then a large part of the dust problem is handled for no extra cost in either money or weight or size. If I thought they could squeeze proper WR into the body without adding significant size, weight or cost that would obviously be better, but that's not realistic.

Personally I haven't had a dust problem with the GR II yet. I've been relatively careful with it...but it still lives in my pockets, so not that careful.

I can't praise it enough. It is so fantastically liberating to have a great camera in your shirt pocket. It goes everywhere with me.

My GRII will be for sale as soon as the GRIII is in my hands...I'll give you first refusal. :)

I am properly excited. Just waiting on SRS to announce preorders and I will be throwing my card at them...as long as it is less than the magic 1000 mark that makes you suck air through your teeth. All plans to hang on for the first price drop have been binned.

There is no difference between Ricoh and Pentax in reality. But either way there are plenty of other threads on the subject of Pentax releases or absence of them. This is not one of them.

With the greatest of respect...can we move the K-3III talk into one of the many K-3III speculation threads? Or one of the many 'why is Pentax so slow' threads for that matter...

The GRIII seems to be creaking its way towards release and it would be good to keep this (GRIII) thread un-hijacked, for those of us who are extremely excited about this news.

Most post-processing software contains film presets. The Nik collection has a lot of them, as does Lightroom and On1 and probably the rest too. You can also download or buy presets for various software, based on scans and so on. Starting from scratch yourself will only duplicate work that has been done dozens of times.

As much as anything it will depend on the state of currency markets and local pricing of its competitors. They (hopefully correctly) will think it's worth a lot more than an XF10, a bit more than a LX100 but should probably undercut the X100F to attract buyers. Here that points to maybe 999 or 949 or something. But if outlets are being briefed now, we should start getting pre-order pricing soon.

It needs a clean and lube. Sombody may have used the wrong lubricant in the past, or it could be a buildup of gunk.

You might find a Samyang 16mm in that vicinity. A very capable lens.

Yes. We're ignoring Pentax K-Mount in the "Ricoh GR III" thread. There are hundreds of other threads to discuss things other than the Ricoh GR III...maybe get angry in one of those instead?

Just in time for my birthday in April then maybe...maybe not.

I wonder if this is another exciting announcement of an upcoming announcement of something happening at some unspecified time in the future?

Or maybe.......

No, at best a release date, at worst a few more specs or a prototype hands-on.

You can't change the stuff life throws at you, but you can change your reaction to it. Life is too short to get all worked up about a few minor setbacks...it's only stuff.

Focus stacking for landscapes etc

With a sturdy tripod and some care, there is no reason why manual focusing would cause significant movement. Anyway, aligning the images is a standard part of the focus stacking process.

What I'm not clear on is why would need focus stacking on landscapes?

Learn the rules. Practice them. Get good at them.
Then ignore them. Stop using them. Come up with your own aesthetic.

Not when you consider the price.

Edit: Actually, even ignoring the price I don't know of anything more perfect for it.

This is a very odd statement. I can't even fathom what math(s) they're trying to use there...and I have an engineering degree.

How can something be more silent than something that wasn't silent? They must mean 'less noisy' maybe...but then if it is 100% less noisy it would be utterly silent, which is not feasible. I can only imagine they really mean 50% as noisy...but then the marketing speak got hold of it and turned it into spurious nonsense.
