"Pros" talking trash about Pentax?

I was never a person who buys anything without checking all the available options based on the most cost efficient product there is... Before buying my first dslr, i was comparing camera to camera specs for almost 6months until the day i bought (or i may say my wife bought for me as i gift haha) my dslr. What made me decide to get a K-X at first was its high iso performance since i love taking pictures and portraits in low-light areas. I was still skeptical on the last minute so i tried to handheld all my other options... nikon and sony (hated canon because when i tried my friends gears it seems i am only holding a plastic toy and that it was bulgy as well, hence never had the urge to get a canon). I need to be comfortable holding my gear for me to get the result that i want. When i tried Sony, it feels more like its canon counterpart, but for Nikon it feels more solid and compact on my hand... The rest is history though when i held the K-X, it seems it was really meant (custom-made) for me. Grip, size on my hand, weight, everything is perfect!!!

Later on ive jump from K-X to K5 and back to KR (because of K5 shutter issues and monetary constraints) but still i managed to stick with Pentax because of its in-body camera shake and the option to find and still use the oldest K lenses available on the planet (these are just the 2 main reasons why i cant let go of Pentax). In the end, ive learned that its not all about the gear... you may have the most advanced gear in the planet but if you dont know how to use it then all those gears are worthless. One more important thing ive learned through the years is that not all who carries a camera were born photographers!!! There's what we call a photographer's eye...and even though this person isn't holding a camera, he/she has already seen a good photograph before he/she even presses a shutter...

People may look down at you when they see a Pentax camera hanging around your neck but dont let their childish behaviors affect you, stand your ground and be confident in what you do. In the end, you're not doing this to please them but you're doing this because you love your kind of photography...

28mm f2.8 and 35mm f3.5 dilemma?

I've had so many primes during my LBA years and if i only need to keep a single lens then it will be the K28 3.5. The super tak 28 3.5 is sharp but this lens is way out of the taks league...

Consider this, i'm not into wide primes but this will be my last lens (this should mean something)...

Sharpness even at wide open, color check... I only hope everyone can try this awesome lens...
Anyone can compare the K28 and K35 here? just curious...

Had 4 lenses (50-58mm range) in a given time but owned 22 of them in total... blows my mind just thinking about it now... got bored though and totally stopped buying after this gem the S-M-C Tak 50 1.4... doesn't mean it's the best though... just love the sharpness and bokeh...(below is the list of previously owned lenses)

SMC Tak 55 2, Revuenon 55 1.2, A 50 1.4, M 50 1.4, M 50 1.7, K 50 1.4, K 55 1.8, Super Tak 55 1.8, S-M-C Tak 50 1.4, Super Tak 50 1.4, Helios 44-2, Helios 44M-4, Helios 44M , Sears 50 1.7, Yashinon 50 1.7, Pancolar 50 1.8, FA 50 1.4, F 50 1.7, Fujinon 50 1.9, Chinon 50 1.7, M 50 2

In general all 50-58's are good performers, worst i had was the A 50 1.4 (suspect a bad copy) and the M 50 2

HELP, Need opinions on 2 lenses for portraits!

Hi there,

You should grab your kit lens and then go ahead and shoot (people/portraits/whatever suits you). Afterwards check the most used focals... go grab which focal is nearer...
I think if you like classic portraits then go for the 55 but if you prefer environmental portraits then 31 it is... never had those lenses, maybe never will (drool) but am loving both my S-M-C tak 50 1.4 and K 28 3.5 for portraits... 2 different yet amazing lenses and different uses as well...

31 Ltd and the K 28 3.5

Hi guys,

I've read a lot of praises for the 31 ltd...

For those of you guys who owned/tried both the 31 ltd and the K 28 3.5, can anyone compare the Pros and Cons of each lens not taking into account auto focus and wider apertures of the 31? I have the 28 3.5 and i know it's worth every penny spent on it but no access to the 31 though...

Thanks in advance guys...

Anybody have a new Helios 40-2?

Hi all,

I currently have the 40-2 (not the new version) with me... well actually it's a friend's lens but let me use it for how long i would want to use it haha...
problem with this lens? you need to of them to use it as dumbbells (too heavy for me), lacks contrast but quite smooth bokeh...(and yes that swirly bokeh too)

jupiter-9?? (owned 1 before) there a certain character in this lens good for special effects and purposes...

rokinon? tried once and for me, i will pick this 1 than the 2 other lenses... (i just love to shoot wide open shots...)

What ended my LBA...

Hi there guys,

Its been a while since my last post...
Just want to share something about my so called LBA...

What i actually do is just buy a lens i want, try it for sometime and then sell it afterwards (mostly cheaper price than what i paid for it so meaning im not really after the buy and sell thing)...

This is also the reason why i had tried a lot of lenses (mostly manuals)...
Anyway here's what happened...before i just keep on looking at this website everyday and if i like a lens then i would go for it...So what stopped my LBA? Just these 3 lenses that i currently own...
First i got my a S-M-C 50 1.4 then a M 100 2.8 and lastly the K 28 3.5... and that's all it just stopped there...
Don't get me wrong, yes i still look at this website at least 3x a week but hell yeah i dont have the urge to buy anymore...

A friend lend me a K85 1.8, Helios 40-2 and meyer optik 29 2.8... didn't like them... i dont know i just stopped and im soo glad it did...

Anybody here with the same story? (another lens of course)

I would say the 2nd lens has slight longer FL and busier bokeh, i would say 58mm? (most probably the helios)...
3x the price? i would choose the cheap lens and get another one:)

Zeiss Pancolar 50 1.8 or Pentax-M 50 1.7?

Had them both...
i would say zeiss is twice (or more) the price of the M. Agree with Na Horuk... get the zeiss just because its a zeiss.
Noticed that on my M copy i get more light (brighter) compared to zeiss...
zeiss has a smoother bokeh..., if im not mistaken closer focusing dist as well... sharp when combined with tubes...
like them both but moved on to s-m-c tak 50 1.4...

Thanks a lot guys,
First impression with the 2 lenses...
Both are sharp wide open considering that I've been testing the lenses in a dimly lit coffee shop. The 28 is more contrasty and would say vivid colors. Both are working just fine with smooth focusing rings...
Love them both that's why am getting them both... The catch? I just reserved the other lens and will only get it when I make the full payment...
At least am keeping them both...
Again thanks guys and good night to all.

Hi guys,

Im back for your opinions/suggestions/etc...

Am about to buy a lens in exactly 5hrs from now... my dilemma? which of the 2 lenses.
Lets say both are rare (never seen them on sale until now, same seller...), both are (i suppose from our database section) top quality glasses and both are in good condition (just a 10 dollar difference)...

which one now?
M100 2.8 or K28 3.5?

Thanks in advance

Tak is not meant for me haha gone, nada, sold...
Am not confident enough with the 50-200 as well based from the reviews...
I guess I'm stucked with the M 75-150 and Pentacon 135.

I already have 50-55 focal and am happy with their performance...

Hi bcrary3,

Thanks. Interesting info about the Ricoh p but the reason wh I've not tried that lens is because of its dreaded pin (not sure how to take it off).
I currently own the s-m-c takumar 50mm 1.4 and 55mm 1.8 and also Helios 44-2 that's why am not in anyway interested with the focal. However with your interesting info about the Ricoh I might try 1 if I can find an EASY way to get rid of that Pin.

I don't mind MF...
Any suggestion on the 4 lenses mentioned?
Thanks again

K-r or K-5 as first DSLR, limited budget

Agree with Kozlok...
before buying my first DSLR i went out and try to hold/test grip the cameras (all brand)... Pentax brand are way ahead for me, just go out there and try for yourself (some are bulky, plasticky, cheap... mouth zipped) compared to Pentax build... But a few weeks ago ive tried a friend's camera (popular brand) and seems a lot better in terms of IQ compared to my K5 (sorry guys just being objective)...

Anyway, if i were you i would choose a basic camera with better glass than go straight to K5/K30 with kit (i highly suggest K-X... very good IQ and good for high ISO as well). I suggest for you to try prime lenses (if you can manage Manual better for you to learn the basics first)...

If you ever chose primes over zooms you have to know which focal you prefer first for you to enjoy the learning curve else you will be bored and lose interest with your focal... (i suggest go with focals from 35-40-50-55mm)...

Good luck and don't forget to share us some of your pics soon...
