Is Eric Hendrickson still repairing Pentax lenses? He repaired my FA 31 that wouldn’t focus after I dropped it a few years ago. Try his email: pentaxrepairs@aol.com. He’ s in Tennessee. Can’t find the receipt but it was very reasonable & it was back in three weeks or so. Its worked fine ever since. Good luck.

Thanks for the explanation & the comment. I always thought a strong starburst only happened at small apertures.

I'm posting a series of shots of the milky way with some hoodoos in the foreground. This is from my October trip to the Bisti/De Na Zin wilderness in north eastern New Mexico. We stayed late to shoot the milky way behind the silhouettes of the hoodoos. In post, I noticed a bright star rendered as a perfect 8-pt. star. It was the only one so rendered. It was taken at 9:10PM with my FA*24 on my K-1. The settings were 15sec. @ f4.0. Subsequent shots show the same star but with fainter star bursts and then none at all. The last shot was taken at 9:26. In this shot the star burst is virtually gone. The shutter speeds were between 10 & 15 sec & the apertures ranged from f2.0 to f4.0.

What kind of star is this? I could be wrong, but I don't think the shutter speeds or apertures account for the significant differences in the star burst effect. Thoughts anyone?

Captured an Osprey fishing just before it hit the water. Wouldn't want to be the fish. Although in this series the fish got away. Lens was the DA*60-250 w/DA 1.4x AW TC. Shutterspeed was1/1250. There were three Ospreys fishing while I was there with four up in the air at one point.

Need help to price for sale an Asahi Pentax "Fantastic Color Filter R/G 49mm"

I recently came across this filter in my misc. equipment drawer. I haven't used it since my early film days. I think its a polarizer (linear as opposed to circular) that changes color from red to green. They haven't been made for many decades as far as I know. Its in mint condition (w/o original case/pouch/box). What's it worth to a film shooter or Pentax collector?

Glad you added the second image, its excellent. It really makes the viewer feel like we’re standing right next to the camera and B & W enhances the ruggedness of the terrain.

Love the bokeh & lovely pastel colors, termy. Your EXIF data didn’t record the aperture but it looks like it was wide open. Very nice.

Great input-thx again. As for the green ring, I thought I'd show you what I'm dealing with, so attached are macro shots showing the glue residue on the lens body and the green ring. Glue seems to be the way to go & I WON'T use superglue. The ring itself is intricately machined to match as close as possible the lens body-pretty amazing. The last two shots shows the flash hack I used to make the macros. Works really well with nature subjects, too.

I'm still undecided on how to go with the 50-135. What does it cost to convert it to screw drive?.

Asking for suggestions on how to deal with quality issues on two of my lenses. 1) the green stripe ring on my DFA* 50 has fallen off. Luckily i found on the floor under my work table. Its 21 months since I bought it. It appears there was insufficient adhesive applied during assembly. If I can get Precision to answer their phone, I'll see what they say re repair cost. In the mean time, what do you think about just using super glue sparingly to reattach it myself? Would just leaving it off compromise AW protection?

2). The SDM on my 50-135 has failed again. First replaced years ago. Really don't want to spend another $300-400 to repair. I'd rather try to find a Sigma 50-150 instead.

Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions.

Thanks for your comments, Des & WPRESTO. I’m going to go to the lake where the gulls hang out next stretch of sunny weather to see if I can do better with my FA* 400. I think catching sharp images of birds leaving a feeder is even harder than following birds in flight!

I would appreciate comments on the number/percent of keepers those of you shooting with the DFA 150-450 on a KP achieve on average.

My images here are from a shoot at local lake yesterday. My goal was to get as many sharp images of these birds on the wing as I could with my FA*400. Attached are two ring-billed Gull shots from a little over 200 total. My percentage of keepers was about 25%. This was my first practice session. All significantly cropped.

Thanks for your reply. I’m wondering how much a handicap a screw drive & no focus limiter are for birds in flight. Otherwise, I’m very happy with my first serious effort.

Very nice macro shots. Have you tried the rear converter A 1.4X-L? It really woks well with my K-1 & A*200. I’ve seen several for sale here in the past.
