LightRoom (not free) vs Picasa (free)

I am quite confussed how LR is running so slowly for you, I use LR2 and on occasion Picasaa and LR is notably faster. Rendering previews upon import is a good habit to get into as it greatly increases the speed of LR. Picasa renders these previews by defaul which is the likely cause of some of the speed issues.
Maybe a fresh install is needed or a closer look at your preferences, maybe LR isn't getting access to all cores+enough ram.

Thanks

EDIT: Also why have both v1 and 2 of lr installed, it should, but sometimes that can mess things up.

FA 50/1.4 vs DA 70/2.4

70 Ltd on its own beats the 50mm FA for portraits IMHO but 50mm FA + grips wins out overall. Shooting portrait orientation with a vertical grip makes life just so much nicer.

I cannot find the link right now but some one visited the "store locations" for Broadway Camera and they didn't exist... At least I believe it was BW but still stay WELL away from them.

Not quite, it wasn't completely broken. In certain conditions AF Servo did a very mediocre job of focus tracking. Subject running straight at the camera more than a fair share of shots ended up out of focus. Although to be honest it was hyped up bigger that it should of been. Just like everything else with Canon..

Thanks

I sometimes wonder if Canon shooters ever go outside and take pictures... Because all they ever seem to be doing is complaining about this that or the other!

This time instead of putting myself both in front and behind the camera, my girlfriend got to be the model. She personally detests it as she prefers being behind it but with enough convincing she agreed to do a little shoot. All pictures were taken in our back garden. We were planning to go into the forest for the shoot but it was too hot out so just used the garden. Finally we had to re-schedule the shoot earlier as well so they were taken with the sun very high in the sky.

Clicking on the images takes you to Flickr page for a larger view

Comments would be greatly appreciated.

How so? They have always been a very good team but seem to stumble at the end on a consistent basis.

Thanks

PS. Their club teams (at least a couple years back when R. Madrid was #1) have always been dominant with Spanish players in the club teams yet it has never translated to national success.

Nice set and absolutely love the last shot. Maybe a bit of fill light in the shadows but otherwise a great shot.

Spain - Germany final, 'nuff said! :D

Thanks

PS. Although I was really hoping the Dutch would win this year, but spain deserve it more as they never have won anything.

Thanks guys very much appreciated.
About the thumbnail's Dave I try to keep them small for forums so as people on slower connections don't get bog down and to try and help keep Adam's bandwidth down. They are all click-able to see a larger version as well.

Thanks

Upon going over them again I do agree that maybe looking towards the camera more would have helped the photos.
i totally agree that blank backgrounds can be very boring add I am always looking for something interesting to use as a background.

Thanks everyone for the comments

I do think your being hard on yourself, seems to be a thing photographers do a lot, as those images are quite nice. You probably just got nervous and didn't take your time. Also since you knew you hadn't used flash for awhile maybe taking 20minutes before heading to the gig\bar\whatever to just play around with it to get a feel for it and set your camera settings in advance! Such as focus mode, ISO, exposure mode, file format etc so you don't have to worry when you arrive there to shoot.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks

Thanks for the comments guys.

@Maxwell: Well Im not a huge fan of HighKey either but I like how it worked with that photo.
Just like Don I do think you are correct in saying the shadows are maybe a tad busy. The sun was setting fast and they are self portraits so I was working quickly and didnt notice I didnt underexpose the background enough.

@vizjerei: thanks! you seem to like that PP Im assuming?

@and: Thanks!

@don: Thanks and see above for shadows.

Thanks

Weather has been quite nice recently so my "macro" lens has been getting a bit of a work out! After chasing a bee around for and hour I gave up and shot some flowers. Some of the better ones are below. Also a little tip: don't shoot with your dog in the neighbourhood, he\she will chase away the insects and step in front of the camera just as you press the shutter button!

Comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT: Forget the little bee..

The other bee shots can be seen here.

I had some time on my hands recently and saw this interesting shadow created by a window. So I set up next to the window for main light and speed light for fill/slide light and also used a black "reflector" to get some interesting shadows.

There are a few of the same copies here but I would also like feedback on the postprocessing techniques. Click on images for larger views.
