If those are in the viewfinder, then don't worry (they won't be in your pictures) and don't touch the mirror nor the focusing screen, those are quite fragile.

Glad you got it sorted! :)

I appreciated your posts in this thread... and the 11-18mm is good news indeed!
As other said, pay no heed to the negativity.
Last pic is a stunner, BTW.

How long can I record video with the K01?

Why everybody insists in feeding the audio to the camera?
It's the worst possible thing to do in terms of quality... for the reasons that have been brought up ad nauseam... bad DSPs, high compression, low sampling rate...

Since Bob 256's solution involves a mixer, why not simply using a recorder? Zoom, Tascam, Olympus, whatever...
As long as it has 2 XLR inputs, it's fine. You don't even need a PC, which you would using an external audio card (bottom dollar is Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, for instance)

BTW, buying a recorder is IMHO money better spent than buying the classic shotgun mic that every "videographer" or "v.-wannabe" has on top of their cameras... and that is seldom used for its intended purpose.

I was looking at Open Source alternatives... like digiKam, but it looks like it's still unreliable under Win.

Darktable should come to Windows as well... some time in the future... (?)

I only need a DAM for the moment, something that will at least support collections/albums/what-you-call-them

I've used a LCD loupe with my K-01 for a couple of years in order to overcome the same issue.
You lose some portability, but gain magnification and stability (face - third contact point).

K-01, AF, focus peaking and Pentax 16-45/4 lens

1. ok ;-)
2. it depends... I use it all the time to lock exposure, and would only use back-button focusing on a camera with two buttons (AF and AE-lock) i.e. an advanced body
3. I say forget focus peaking and start trying magnification

Wether it was a good or bad decision, it really depends what you plan to use it for.

I have a K-01 and a K-30... the entry level camera bodies have a LV which is not really usable, as the mirror moves twice before the shutter opens, increasing the potential for blur.

I find the K-01 to be superb in
1) travel photography, with kits that range from a single M 28/3.5 lens to a Sigma 10-20/3.5 + 40/2.8 XS + M100/2.8 kit, which fits in a little holster bag, covers an impressive range of focal lengths and packs a wallop in terms of IQ. I couldn't fit a DSLR in the same space.
2) macro work
3) manual focusing with MF lenses, especially when you get used to it, or when you try an LCD loupe

But you might not trust my words, so... just trust my pics instead! ;)

As you can see, nailing focus is not a problem at all even MF, once you get used to it. SMC-M 80-200/4.5

K-01, AF, focus peaking and Pentax 16-45/4 lens

1. Latest firmware is 1.05 (but 1.04 is good as well, if you don't need the support for the rear TC). As said above, AF improved quite a bit since 1.00

2. Don't use focus peaking: it's not very effective, and can be easily tricked in a situation with lots of high-contrast edges (e.g. waves). In my experience it's more of a hindrance than a useful feature.

3. Use 6x magnification to focus. You don't even need to exit that mode with the ok button, since a half-press of the shutter button will get you back to 1x (and start spooling SR as well).

4. If you assigned the red button to peaking, then change that, it's not very useful IMHO. Movies I do in movie mode, so the only sensible thing to use that for IMHO is DoF preview, which BTW is very useful if your lens has a focus shift: auto-gain will take care of the brightness anyway, unlike an optical viewfinder.

Just a hunch I have... I think symmetry is important... if the forces acting on the U-shaped iron are asymmetrical, the likelihood of it becoming jammed could be higher.

Tested just yesterday: from a rough measurement it's about 1.3:1, on the plus side, IQ is very good.

I already did, it's here on my desk... but it's a poor solution to have a donut-shaped thingy between the camera/reversing ring and the lens.
I like IQ a lot better with the TC and the 28mm... plus, it's easier to operate (aperture is controlled by the camera through the lever).

I didn't, I just filed it.
I took my time (about 15'), used a tiny file and took care that the two extremities were as smooth as possible.
It's working for the moment, we'll see in the future how it holds up.

I've read that those from optical drives in notebooks seem to work well.

This... you can also try to fix the one already in place.
I did it (on a K-30), and it's a bit time consuming, but definitely not impossible.

Besides, it will still work with lenses having an aperture ring.

Tsk, you're forgetting adapted lenses (including projection and CCTV), adding a second system for "special needs" (e.g. Sony for video, Canon for AF performance, m43 for portability)...

Just seeing that ugly mug made me want to quit photography altogether...

...you made one as well? :p
