Catch-in-focus with Tamron Adaptall 2 mirror lens

It may also be an idea to use some acetone on a q-tip or a dust-free rag. The idea being to dissolve the paint, rather than abrade it and the underlying metal. Just be careful of ventilation, and be careful not to drip any into the lens. You'll be less likely to introduce metal particles into your lens/camera or to create a rough surface on the lens mount that would, in turn, wear the camera mount.

The police were the first to receive my list of serials. Next up were Henry's and Pentax of Canada. There are also security cameras in the building, so I'm hoping maybe John Q. Camerathief missed that detail.

Thanks for the support guys. I'm still having a hard time believing it's really gone. I have a lot of great memories with that camera - it's been a great motivator for getting me out of the door since I got it.

I've updated my original post with the serial for the AF-540FGZ. Pentax Forums' serial database saved my butt on this one! [/shameless plug]

Hey everyone,

My kit was stolen from my workbay at the University of Waterloo. Contents were as follows:

Pentax K200D 3110083
+ attached D-BG3 (serial unknown)
SMC Pentax 55mm f1.8 1286070
SMC Pentax-M 28mm f2.8 6315810
SMC Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 2837568
SMC Pentax-M 135mm f3.5 6714760
Pentax-A 28-80mm f3.5-4.5 6873663
SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm AL II 6331861
SMC Pentax-DA 50-200mm ED 6390931
Pentax AF-540FGZ 10482
RF-3N radio release

All of this was in an older (~1992) light grey Lowepro Compact 35 bag with bright blue interior. If everyone could keep their eyes peeled, it would be much-appreciated.

Mike: That set is awesome! I'm quite fond of 3 and 4.

Axl: "All lined up" gives me the impression that they're going to drag race. I like that fourth one too - lots of neat patterns going on.

Rense: In that first one, was he actually talking to the mannequins? That's too amusing!

I snuck numbers 10 and 11 in some time last week! :D

M lenses stop-down meter with *ist D?

Can you confirm that the diaphragm is actuating when you are pressing the green button? You can either check by looking through the front of the lens while it's metering, or through the viewfinder if you're stopping down significantly.

Does the camera still meter correctly with AE-enabled lenses?

Tripod Collar for Tamron 300mm 5.6 (54B) - Any ideas?

Sorry to necromance! I finally got my tripod ring from Hong Kong. I purchased the one suggested by excanonfd which is just barely too large to grip the 300mm f5.6 securely (it's only about 0.010" over!). Interestingly enough, however, it is a perfect fit around the rubber grip on the flat-field converter (and balances with my *istD perfectly):

K200d mirror cycles on its own - no image taken

I had the rapid-fire problem when I first got my K200D. It happened when the supplied Energizer lithiums got low and again a few times with some worn out Kodak rechargeables. It would keep going until I popped the batteries out.

I haven't had a hiccough since I switched to long life NiMH batteries, but then that's also about the time I added the D-BG3 so it could have been either or neither that fixed it. Either way, that's about 15K actuations since anything fishy's happened.

Hey everyone. I'm looking for an SMC K 35mm f3.5 to fill in the gap in my primes (it's about time I owned a standard f.l.). I'm hoping for something in the $120 range.

Cheers,

K-5 Is there a simple way of going from HDR back to RAW?

I'm not terribly familiar with the K-5, or in-camera HDR for that matter. What's stopping you from using auto-bracket and RAW and processing the HDR out of camera? It's far faster just to switch between auto-bracket and single shot than to dig through menus and you get the added bonus of more control over your image depending which software you use.

Nice work everyone!

Simon: I'm especially fond of your bathroom scene there. I have a soft spot for urban exploration - always wanted to try it.

I managed to sneak number 7 in today. It's also my first acceptance from the *istD.

How do i tell if a flash has too high a voltage?
Posted By MrEspie

There's a list of a number of flashes and their trigger voltage here. Aside from that, you can measure the trigger voltage yourself using a quality digital multimeter. Set it to measure DC volts and set your positive lead on the centre contact, and the neutral lead on one of the side contacts (the ones that touch the raised parts of the shoe). If your meter doesn't auto-set its range, start at 300VDC (to be safe) and work your way down.

Edit: I suppose I should also mention that you should measure with the flash turned on, with fresh batteries installed, and after waiting for the capacitor to charge fully.

Thanks, both of you.

Heinrich: All three of them made out just fine. I seem to recall that all three of them are X-Games gold medalists.

Here are a couple more from Yesterday. I decided to get more adventurous and used the M 80-200mm for these.

Totally the Captain Morgan! :D

I have dozens more if anyone's interested.

Kingaircj: I really wish that were the case - I really wouldn't feel so silly then.

Heinrich: Number two is. Number one is close though - that was just opposite the southeast corner of the island. I take it you're familiar with the area?

dcmsox2004: Thanks for commenting!

reeftool: See, I was thrown off by two things: First, I never have bright conditions. Second, I never change my ISO settings because anything over 100 with the K200D is iffy at best.

Jer: Thanks! That's my favourite too.

These look fairly nice. I'd like to see a bit more highlight on the visible side of the car, on the door panels in #1 though. A reflector or something to camera left would do it - just to give a better impression of the form of the car. Regardless, these are far better than I could do.

Assuming it were optically possible, we'd effectively be converging the 35mm image circle into the smaller APS-C circle, increasing the density/intensity of the light incident on the sensor. More photons per unit area = faster exposure. I've ben thinking more on this and, while a rear converter to this effect for an SLR would be unwieldy, it might be possible to make for an EVIL with a shorter registration distance. An adapter would be needed to hold the K-mount lens out at its usual registration distance anyways - why not add a simple afocal converging pair in that added space? :p

I had far fewer turn out than I expected this year. I managed to forget my K200 was on ISO 800 for half of the day. I also kept switching to my 300mm and forgetting to return the SR to 55mm after. Despite all this, I managed to sneak a few good shots through. These are all from a boat ride on Pigeon Lake, Bobcaygeon, ON.

As always, I welcome all comments and CC. :)

Wolfbones: Nice portrait! The oof highlights in the background punctuate this one nicely.

Marc: I'm glad I could make you laugh.

I managed number 6 today:

It's not my best work, but it's nice to finally get another landscape in. :p
