Playing with the Super Cosina some more. This was at 500mm or very close to it.

I have the 3.5 constant aperture version (do a lot of night shooting) and its one of the best purchases I've made. I usually rock the vintage stuff, but that option isn't available at a sane price for vintage glass.

Its one of my go-to's, and mine spent a day at a wedding as well - which I wasn't expecting, but it served its purpose VERY well.

What happens when you slap a 2x Teleconverter onto a 40 year old 500mm superzoom?

You discover just how amazing Pentax IBIS really is.

Shot this one tonight while testing out the new-to-me Epic 100 robot pano-head.

This was a bit rougher than I'd like (ISO 25600 will do that to you!) but all things considered, it came out far better than expected.

Post was a trip through Topaz DeNoise and Luminar to get the colors to pop a bit.

Camera was the K-70, lens my trusty old Pentax-M 200. The 200mm/K-70 combo works REALLY well so far with the Epic mount.

You really want to click-through and view this full sized if you can - its worth it.

So I was VERY bad the past few days with my single ins. I received my gigapan head the other day, which means I have to switch to JPG only to use the thing. Wound up with *nothing* really good for the 16th as a result. Went to work the 17th, and I managed to get a few quick snaps in before forgetting the camera at work. Again, wound up all in JPG, now RAWs to work with. Then I get the camera back in time to have to go out shopping, and the skies absolutely opened up on me, making finding good light impossible. Once again, I forgot I was in JPG mode, so wound up dealing.

Lesson learned: This superzoom is NOT a 'quick and easy' lens. It takes at least a small amount of planning to not fall into the 'garbage in, garbage out' rule.

As an aside, once I figure out how to use the damned thing, the gigapan is absolutely amazing. I'm seriously debating using it as my single in for next month if I can work up the nerve to deal with the work involved in shooting all panos for a month with it. The Single In is doing wonders teaching me the ropes of the Cosina though so... it may be worth it.

Wait until you discover that buying used bodies and body kits can sometimes snag you the good lenses, but almost always have those same standard zooms and 50's included that then take up random residency in your home because you're too lazy to eBay them forward but don't want to waste a perfectly good lens by tossing it.

Does it count as forest fungi if it was outside the local Dunkins?

As an aside, never would have thought I'd even *get* fungus shots with a 500mm lens, but it has a 'macro' mode, so long as you don't mind being 9 feet away when you're macro'ing close-focusing.

One interesting thing being 'stuck' with the superzoom is the discovery that its just as capable of landscapes if you think outside the box as far as landscapes go.

Still doesn't beat my 10-20 or my 35mm though.

So with the 21st arriving soonish, I need idea of how I'm going to pull off a selfie (let alone a belfie) short of dragging a mirror outside with a 100-500mm superzoom.

I did it once with a 200mm and that was rough enough as it was - this lens is far more cumbersome than that Pentax 200mm was.

Gotta love that 500mm compression. It makes it look like you were levitating when you took the shot as well!

I know that feeling. I tend to obsess on my Single In lens each month at the expense of the rest.

With this big zoom this month for me, its more 'Oh, I do NOT want to deal with packing this thing up..." more than anything, though. Everything about the thing is *work* to an extent.

So now I *do* have an Epic coming my way, this time via FleaBay. It should work fine with the K-70, if not I may be forced to buy a Q or a GR.

The horrors.

I'm singling my way through September with a 100-500mm zoom, it can be done!

One thing I've noticed is its hard to be stealthy with 24 inches of lens on you. My right arm will probably look like Popeye's by October as well.

That website hasn't been updated in about 7 years, it was probably when those rumors were flying. :) It'll take a D550, it'll take a K-70.

Bought myself a goody which I may use come October. It'd be stretching the rules since I'd be using *any* lens, but it would be a single tripod head so PFFT. I should have a week or two to decide if I want to tackle that idea or not though, especially as I'd by nature need to do some traveling around or at least scheduling a chunk of time each day to devote to it.

I basically paid about a quarter of the going rate though, so I can't complain too bad if I decide I hate it, but I've been eyeballing these things since they first came out a decade ago. The K-70 should fit nicely to it, and I can couple it to a nice compact, light lens of some sort and away I go.
