Pentax SDM Motor

I have had 3 SDM motor failures with my DA* 16-50. I paid full repair costs each time with no help or even a care by Pentax / Ricoh. They have not solved the problem (last fix lasted 3 month and only was used twice). Ask the repair center how many lenses they repair. Look at the lengths loyal Pentax users have to go to be able to use their lenses, like conversion tricks. Funny how Pentax only offers a 1 year warranty of their lenses....... while Tamron & Sigma offer 6 & 7 respectively if purchased in Canada.

"Square highlights", A square or rectangular highlight gives the impression the lighting source was via a window. I am fine with round, square or rectangular highlights. :)

Nice portrait Rory. The girl reminds me of Kate Beckinsale.

This is a great shot, and it is a chance of a life time opportunity, expertly captured...... but I don't think it is an egg. I think it is number 2 ( I guess you could say that you caught it with its pants down).

Sad, very sad to hear about your cat. Somehow the little girl playing vet offers a feeling of balance...... "youth, innocence, & hope".

Thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your family.

I took my new pal for a walk along the beach. The small rocks were like boulders for him. We took it slow and he enjoyed exploring and pulling on a strand of seaweed or two. He had his "dog bone camouflaged" fighting jacket on and was ready for adventure.

Thanks for looking

Excellent capture. My only suggestion might be to crop the left hand side a bit tighter to reduce competition. Love the energy in the eyes.

Misc Our new puppy - "Rocket"

Thanks to everyone for looking and commenting. :)

Rocket is a Toy poodle and will not get much bigger. His mother's weight was 4lbs and his fathers was 3 1/2 lbs (some may call him a Tea Cup but I do not believe Tea Cup is a recognized category). He is 3 months old right now. Like most puppies he is a little clumsy, curious, and full of play. He is like a little battery and has a discharge and recharge pattern. To get him to sit still I played with him in the setting of the shoot so that he was familiar with the surrounding until most of his energy was expended Then when he was in a calm state I put him on the stool in the bowl. The main purpose of the bowl was to prevent him from falling off the stood. I put a treat in the bowl. He searched the bowl until he found it. I would then show him another treat and then put it in the bowl. This made a nice association with the bowl and made him happy and comfortable to be in the bowl. By the third cycle he knew to immediately look to my hand for a possible treat. This helped to position him, direct his head and gaze. Poodles are pretty smart when it comes to treats and food.

I remember someone once saying "never trust a person that doesn't like and respect animals". I think that every home should have fury friend. We have a cat as well. While I do have a great connection with my cat and lover her dearly, there is something about a dog that can't be matched. They are loyal and loving and honest to the core. Larryinic said "reminds me what is good in the world" - well said! He already recognizes the sound of my truck's horn when I lock my doors with the remote when coming home from work. I love to come home to his energetic welcome. I call it the happy puppy dance. I get down on all fours and he races in and out from between my arms and legs trying to give me kisses with each pass. When they love you it is 100%. His official colour is Cafe au lait so I suspect that he will lose much of his black colouring as he get a but older. Our last Toy was a silver Toy. He was jet black when we first got him and turned pure silver by 1 year old.

This was a shot I took on our back porch in natural light. The light was a bit harsh and the settling was not the best. A scrim to soften the light, and a better composition on my part would have produced a better result, but it was just a quick impromptu spur of the moment thing. I was not sure how he would take to being placed in my work boot. He is a buddy and seems to be happy as long as he is included.

Thanks again for looking,

It is unique and special how some animals can become such intricate parts of our families. Dogs have a particular talent for getting close to the heart. We lost our little dog this spring and it was heart wrenching. He was hit by a car. I remember driving him to the emergency animal hospital while my wife held him and wept. I have never heard her cry as hard as she did that day. She cried out every tear in her body and then a few more. I would have spent any amount of money to save our dog that day. I promised myself that we would never get another dog and risk the chance of a painful loss again. It seems wrong that their life spans are so short. I guess the best flames burn hot, bright, but short. Our house seemed empty and hollow in the months following. I decided to fill the void. I just purchased a puppy and it now feels like a cloud has been lifted.

Remember all the good times and comradery Brodie gave you. It sounds like you provided him a great and rewarding life. Know that you meant as much to him as he did to you.

Take care,

Spyglass

This is the latest addition to our family. He is a little toy poodle. We named him Rocket. I used a single Alienbees strobe shot through a 16" umbrella for illumination.

MJ - incredible musical talent sadly over shadowed by unacceptable behaviour. The plastic surgery indicated just how unhappy he must have been. I remember an interview years back where the radio host was questioning a fellow musician about MJ. The guest said "it is ok being a freak show, until the show moves on and you are seen only as a freak".
The questions surrounding his death appears to be driven by the guilt of those that say they loved him. Those around him all knew he was a train wreck ready to come off the rails. If it would not have been this particular doctor that furnished the means it would have been another, or a supplier in a back alley. Money and unhappiness equal a short life.

As for the bike..... quite an art piece, nicely captured.

I like the concept of the first image, but find the "fogging" to be distracting, and find the subject's left arm to look hyper extended and unnaturally awkward.
I like the 2nd image best.
I do like the third image and feel that the "fogging" and overall soft feel works well.

Nice portrait Nate,

A very attractive lady. A red dress is always able to create energy. When combined look out. I like the sharp up close and personal approach with this portrait. I think it is more intimate and gives a one on one feel. Let face it, if given the option, do you wish to look at this lovely lady two tables away under soft candle light or would we all agree that Nate was a lucky man to first be seated front and center, and secondly to have the foresight to bring his camera.

While I do like Photoshop for minor touch up work we don't want to turn all the beautiful women into plastic painted dolls. But I imagine even in plastic she would still be attractive.
