OP do you always use a lens hood?
That will cut down on flare amazingly.

Very well said !
For myself, if I am in a conversation with someone (or a small group) and someone starts to throw out the labels of "left" or "right" or the two I hate the most "LIBERAL" and "CONSERVATIVE", I figure they have nothing more to say and are now just resorting to arbitrary labels as arguments. I am outta there at that point.
Note: I am talking about those words as labels.
Yes, of course I realize that when they are used to describe a position or general political philosophy they are valid. Of course that I listen to.
It is when people use labels as a weapon and as a final argument that it really turns me off.
Note to our Canadian friends - we do not have a Liberal or Conservative party in New Jersey USA. Our governor is called a Conservative but in fact he is a Republican.
I do understand the terms in Canada usually refer to parties.:D
(Listening to the news on CHML Hamilton can be a learning experience at times.)

All of us get offended at times about a reply in this forum that disagrees with us or that we may feel is a little harsher than it should be concerning our selected position.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to remind us all that this is simply a discussion forum and deals with sometimes passionate and volatile things and that all are welcome and encouraged to partake and contribute their opinions.

Pentax vs Canikon (English Assignment)
Posted By TomK

First of all I agree with what mtansley wrote.
Second I would suggest the following action.
Take several photos with a Pentax DSLR and a prime lens.
Have these printed out at 8 x 10 or 11 x 14.
Submit these photos as your argument but without
stating a conclusion.
Then have the teacher request the same action from the
Canikon users.
The conclusion will be obvious.

Oh, it is an English teacher?
Well then, get a Pentax DSLR and just cut the class and go out
and enjoy taking pictures that day!

As crazy as Michael Jackson was, apparently he knew the laws about photographing and "expectation of privacy".
He apparently realized there was nothing he could do legally or by threat of bodyguards, etc. to totally prevent people from taking pictures of his children which he was obsessively opposed to.
We all have heard the stories about how, whenever he took the children out in public, he would cover up their heads and faces.
Sometimes he would use a ski mask; sometimes it was a paper bag,
He realized the solution was not in preventing photographers from taking photos but in taking steps on HIS part to prevent the pictures themselves from being possible.

I can understand a parent saying "We don't go to xyz park anymore. There are too many weird looking people there, some even with cameras."
That is different than demanding that the park be made free from strangers and cameras and "too bad about their rights" because I am uncomfortable with the laws and want the law to bend to my flavor of paranoia.
No Arabs allowed into a train station.
No lone people allowed into a park that may have children playing there.
No cameras allowed in a downtown area because they could be in the hands
of home grown terrorist bombers.
No lone men allowed on a hiking trail as they could be rapists in waiting.
No motorcycles allowed in this town because they could be Hell's Angels members.
No, No, No - - - - - - - -

So, a parent should then feel it is OK for you to photograph their children?
If I was a serious perv I would do exactly these things in order to con the parents into thinking I was innocent.
Put them off guard by asking first.
Explain why I want to take these photos - lying through my teeth of course.
Give out phony contact information - bogus professionally made business cards, etc.
I doubt if one of these concerned parents would sign a general model release which usually states the photographer has the right to use the photo without restrictions.
Even if they did sign a very restrictive model release, would not a real perv have one handy to deceive the parent as to his/her real intentions?
And, yes, a real perv would not act "like a creep". Rather they would act/look like a responsible photographer, a member of the clergy, an ice cream vendor, etc.

You seem to equate some stranger taking pictures of a child with that child being open to molestation. A child is molested because a parent s not present or is not watching.
A parent's paranoia about a stranger on a park bench - with or without a camera - is quite different from a parent's outrage and aggressive defense of a child that some stranger has gotten too close to and is maybe even touching, maybe even innocently touching at first, like holding their hand or patting them on the back. One is paranoia, the other is proper protection.

Uhhh, I took your advice. It did not work out.
I was hassled and questioned by the authorities for several hours.
Apparently I misinterpreted it when you said "be female".
An overweight middle aged man dressed in an ill fitting
drag outfit was not the solution.

Yeah. A product announcement at the same time would dilute the corporate announcement to the stockholders, etc.
And the corporate announcement would dilute a product announcement made at the same time.
I think Saturday or Monday will be the generic back slapping look-to-the-future announcement and a couple of other light product announcements will be made in October with real product announcements coming after the 1st of the year.

Well said. Well said.
One of the comments I read at the link said something like - are we to eventually have a precaution that all single men be prohibited from entering a park or other place where children are present?
If it becomes accepted that photographers are suspect for taking pictures in a park where children are present, the next logical thing is that photographers would be unwelcome and suspect if taking pictures of a town fair, a boardwalk along a beach in a resort town, or as spectators at a Halloween parade.
Unbelievable what people expect these days (the bored soccer moms,etc.).

Hmmm. Now that brings up an idea.
How about if we begin this thing slowly.
On the IRS US Tax 1040 Form let us immediately have a check box that will allow the filer to opt-out of paying toward congressional salaries.
That would be returned to you as a refunded amount based on a formula for how much of your taxes would have gone to paying those salaries.
This amount would then be deducted from each salary spread over all the congressional salaries and COULD NOT BE MADE UP from other sources.
In effect, the cumulative effect of the total opt-outs would significantly reduce each congressional salary.
Then we will see who the "true patriots" are - they will eventually serve their country as legislators without pay or for a very nominal amount.
Gee, they would even have to pay for their own postal stamps.

9 policies Conservatives were for before they were against them

WELL SAID !
The difference that I see is that in times in the not so far past, the
elected members of the House and Senate were legislators for the
most part.
They would fight tooth and nail for some legislation of great importance
to them but would compromise on other legislation. They for the most
part had the ultimate goal of what was good for the country. Not that
it was all altruistic. They wanted their pork barrel perks and wanted to push
their party's general philosophy. BUT, for the most part, they did not want to
destroy the other party and oppose everything the other party proposed
just to stop the "enemy". They saw the opposition as that - opposition
and a party with different ideas not "the enemy".
Quite often after a long session a mixed group would put aside their
differences and go out to dinner or for a drink together as colleagues.

And yeah, yeah, I am aware of McCarthy and also of the Dixiecrats, and
others - I said "for the most part".

This does not sound like your problem but I will post it here in case it may apply to someone else reading this thread.
I was experimenting with taking some fireworks pictures, using between 6 sec and 10 sec exposures. Somehow I turned on the K200D noise reduction. That meant that for each 6 sec exposure I had to wait another 6 sec for the dark slide to be taken as well, so I could not take another picture until 12 seconds was up. Took me a few pics to realize what had happened. I was worried that the card was bad or something horrible had happened to the camera. Ooops!

On a past film camera I used the sholder strap as a wrist strap.
Many people do the same with their DSLRs.
Without detailed instructions, you wrap the sholder strap around your
wrist until you are holding the camera. This effectively turns it into a sort of
wrist strap with no dangling catch-all strap.

Hmmm? Would this be a Tea Party version?

“Any war against non-believers is justified under the right wing Conservative Christian law; a moderating process cannot happen if the right wing Conservative Christian Bible continues to be regarded as the unalterable word of the right wing Conservative Christian version of God.”
