K-5 II memory card issue

they are both the Micro Center store brand. I have used a dozen of their brand cards before and never had an issue. They also both seem to have given the error after a certain number of images were on the card. When i have both in front of me, i will look at the exact number of images.

K-5 II memory card issue

All,

I have now had my K-5II give me error messages with two separate 128gb SDXC cards, wherein after a certain point, they will not record any further images, despite not nearly being full. Does the firmware have a 64gb limit? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

K-mount at K-mart.

I don't think K-Mart, or Sears, has the right image that Pentax wants. Selling in discount stores creates a discount-label connection. I do think the bigger point is good though that Pentax needs to get back into more stores. Considering all of their cameras are designed to a pretty rugged standard, aside from the obvious Best Buy, etc, a tie-in with a a store like REI, or other outdoors retailers could be positive...if they could get stores to devote the floor space and training necessary to make it work.

K-mount adapter on backwards

Thank you for that! I was finally able to go and work on it. It was indeed the clutch pin on the face of the lens mount. The adapter ring would slide all the way around until the cutout for the lock mechanism on the adapter was in front of the pin, and that's where it was hanging up. An exacto knife was slim enough to fit in, and then it slid off easily. Thank you again!

K-mount adapter on backwards

So I was out shooting recently, testing out a recent purchase (SMC 35mm 3.5) and being in a hurry, i placed my M42-K mount adapter on the lens backwards, and now i cant get it off. So now the front face of the adapter is facing the what would be the camera body. I have tried turning it, but it only goes as far as the spring, but no further. I am hesitant to really crank on it because i dont want to damage anything, and they are not only seemingly getting harder to find, but more expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Recommended 'Cheap' 200mm or 300mm High Quality MF Lens

I love the SMCP 200mm f4 that i like alot. As far as cheap lenses go at that focal length, I also really like my Yashica Yashinon DX 200mm f4. But there is also a Vivitar 200mm f3.5 that i like too. I forget who manufactured mine, but it is a nice lens as well, and was really cheap (prob. around $40-$50). I will also say that the Pentax DA 55-300 is a great all-around performer.

mold? in old takumar lens case

So my question isn't about a lens per se, but rather lens cases. I recently bought i beautiful, near-mint condition Super-Tak 200mm f4. It also came with the original Takumar lens case (hard case with red velvet inside). As I said, the lens is in beautiful condition. The case however has what appears to be some mold in it (it looks like fine white powder). I immediately removed the lens and separated the case from the rest of my gear. What i want to know is is there a way to really clean them to get the mold out (if it is mold)? As always, I look to those here with much more knowledge than i for some assistance, and it is always appreciated. Thank you.

Camera backpack/rucksack advice needed.

I have been using a Thule Covert backpack for the last 2-3 years and I love it. It holds all my gear, has room for extras, is durable as hell, and doesn't scream out that you are carrying around a bunch of expensive camera gear. It's not the cheapest, for sure, but after a couple of years of pretty good use, it still looks brand new. It has the side entry for fast-stowing/retrieval of your camera. After having used regular (i.e. non-camera/photography specific) backpacks with inserts for a number of years before that, i definitely love not having to remove my pack and dig in it to find my camera. Also, the Thule has a number of extra pockets along with a big open section above the camera insert, which is also removable so you can use it as a backpack. It has a large pocket for a laptop as well. Oh, and it is very comfortable on the back. Once on both shoulders, it feels much lighter than it does when you are picking it up.

Hope this helps.

hmmmm....looking at what i actually have, it would depend on the intended use. for travel, i think DA15/4, F50/1/4, DA18-135 WR, and DA 55-300 HD WR,, although i would like to have a macro in there as well..hmmmm...could trade the F50/1.4 for the A50/2.8 macro...at least until i get the D FA100/2.8 macro...

K-5II in the cold

Besides the battery issue though, the camera works great in cold temps. I have used mine down to about 12-14 degrees air temperature. It worked without a problem. I was in a field near my house, so it didn't matter if the battery drained.

Also, the F50/1.7 that I got for $10 is awesome as well.

lens repair

I have a Pentax F50/1.7 that I got for cheap that needs some work. It autofocuses fine, but seems to overexpose shots by a full two stops (i have another copy of the same lens, this is based on comparison as well as the little bit i have learned of photography in the last few years). It also is missing most of the filter ring. I am looking for somewhere to have it checked out/repaired, but not spend a fortune. I emailed Eric that everyone recommends here, but he said he does not have parts for that lens. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

Lightroom won't auto- or manually import my files

Recently, when i inserted my memory card (sdxc 64gb), Lightroom (4) won't auto import my files, which is fine because i am ambivalent about that feature anyway, but when i try to get it to manually import files, it goes into some endless loop, then when i try and click on the window, i get the faded appearance and message that it is not responding. I then have to close the program manually. Is there anything i can do about this? If not, and i have to re-install, will i lose any data (i.e. images that have been developed, keyword suggestions, settings, etc.)? Any input always welcome. thanks.

HD DA15 Limited sharpness

I bought aHD DA15 Ltd here a few months ago and am trying to determine if it is as sharp as it should be (or as sharp as other reviewers rated it). While the images look pretty good, I am not convinced that it as sharp as the reviews i read. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can measure or have someone test it? Of course, i could also just post some pics and let the wise counsel on this site give me their feedback. In order to properly evaluate the lens, is there a particular aperture/shutter speed combination that would be more suitable for evaluating the lens? Also, at what distance from the subject does sharpness start to drop off or within which distance is the subject sharpest? Any advise or input would be most welcome. Thank you.

Which 15mm lens to buy?

I haven't tried the SMC version, but i did buy the HD version used in mint condition. I love it, having taken it out on very sunny days and pointed it almost (almost) directly at the sun with no adverse effects. very nice images. So while I can appreciate the comments about the smc, having never used it, i don't miss its' strengths. I do feel the HD is well worth the $, although i did buy mine used, and have no regrets whatsoever.

Buying advise - FA43 vs DA 40 HD Ltd

I am sure this topic has been raised numerous times, but i am getting ready to buy my first higher-end lens for my K-5II and want to get others feedback directly on the comparison between these two. The 40 HD ltd is about $550, while the FA43 in silver is $599. I have read all the reviews, but still can't get a sense of which I would prefer. My interests photographically are pretty varied, ranging from landscapes, to street shooting, to family photos to general travel photos, to macro. If anyone (and I am sure there are many) have both of these, which do you prefer, and what are some strengths and weaknesses of each in relation to one another. And of course, while it is a bit more than i wanted to spend, I could also say to hell with it and go for the DA15 HD. (and like many here, i am still at least keeping in mind that there may some day be a Pentax FF). Thank you for your advice and input in advance.

testing a lens for impact of scratches on coating

Thank you for your replies. Actually, it is a Yashica DX 200/F4. It appears the scratch is on the front element, based on how it comes into focus when turning the focus ring. And for the record, it was $30 (plus s+h). Gonna try it out this weekend. I will report back then.
