Best wide-angle lens for K-1?

The Pentax 15-30 is excellent, but a bit heavy, and a bit slow for things like Astrophotography. I find I'm using my Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG ART lens more often. Wish it was available in a 24 for Pentax.

Astophotography: K-200 F4 or K-200 F2.5

For astrophotography, faster is always better as it substantially reduces exposure time, and thus sensor noise is reduced as well.
Sharpness is an issue as well - yuo want tack sharp stars with an optimal FWHM.
If you have the option, I'd test them both on stars.
Remember, you can always stop the f/2,5 down a little bit.

Made in Vietnam.
I got mine a little over a week ago; and I LOVE IT!

Image stabilization is excellent; images are sharp; low light operation is very good.
Clearly a bunch of very talented people who are photographers built this camera.
There's something in it for GR fans and long-time Pentaxians like me.
Stop reading and go order one!

I did a Leitz Canada Elmarit 19mm f/2.8 and use it happily on my K1. The mechanism to open up the iris was a little sluggish returning at first, but after a bit of use, works fine.

His camera is a cheap-and-cheerful ZWO camera based on a CMOS image sensor chip. The more "pro" cameras are made by companies like Diffraction Limited SBIG, or IDEX.
The mount looks like it might be an Synta aka Skywatcher EQ6.
This is a good budget backyard setup, and the results are very nice.

Less is more. Why shoot film? If you are shooting film, you don't need the Retina, just B&W film.
The 24-90 would make a ton of sense. If you want to save space or be inconspicous, go wide, 35. You could take just that lens. It's fast, light, and probably sharp enough.

Forget the Macro. You wont use it.
Not sure if you would need the polarizers in city. Consider bringing the one that fits the 24-90 and a step ring. Will you really need a lens hood?

Pentax 645nii 75 FA doesn’t focus

Have you checked the lens operation manually?
Try changing the autofocus on and off.
Start by checking manual focus.
Pull the front of lens barrel toward th camera for manual focus. Turn the lens manually to focus across the range. Check this is okay.
Now push the barrel away from the camera to turn on autofocus. Give the lens barrel a slight turn until it clicks into position.
Try autofocus now.
If it still doesnt work, try a different, known good, lens on the body to make sure the body is okay.

The FA lenses are repairable.

Norm - thanks for sharing your thoughts and the info on the Slate Islands. A few years back, I hopped in a Zodiac with some astronomy and geology friends to see the shatter cones and other evidence of meteor implacts. I was moved by the sheer beauty of the place. The wildness and isolation makes it a fascinating place that deserves our support and protection.

I'm reminded of a sign among the Redwoods along the California coast - Leave nothing but footprints - Take nothing but photographs.

HD Pentax DFA645 Macro 1:2.8 90mm ED AW SR - problem shake reduction broken

I added some (extensive) comments on troubleshooting what is going on with SR lenses over in that thread. Hopefully it helps.
Bottom line:

SR Shaky Hand ON = the SR is actively stabilizing the lens right now.
SR Shaky Hand OFF = the SR is not being activated or is turned off by the lens switch or a failure.

Help… Mysterious problem and tale of woe with my HD 90mm

The 90mm should make a quick buzz/chirp/tick at power on of the camera. It can be very subtle. You can also look through the optical viewfinder when you power on the camera - and you will see the scene move a tiny bit when the SR motor kicks in. If the scene doesnt move, and there is no sound, then the lens is not working.

I found that the "Shaky Hand Icon" in the display can be confusing. It does NOT mean that you have an SR lens with SR switch turned ON. It means the SR motors are running or not.

What it actually means is:
Shaky Hand ON = SR is actively optically stabilizing the lens - the mechanism is energized, and you can see through the viewfinder that the target is not bouncing around much.
Shaky Hand OFF = SR is not doing anything, even if it is turned on/enabled.

OFF can mean that it is disabled OR it is not actually running the lens SR mechanism right now.
ON only means that the SR motors are actually moving the lens around right this moment.

The camera has to reach focus (or start trying to focus) before it will start actually powering on the SR mechanism.

SR stays running for about 10 seconds after you let go of the shutter halfway. Then it goes OFF again, and icon changes.

Here's how to check it out easily:

Set Menu C4 28 = 2 so that SR comes on when you depress the shutter button halfway.
Put LV on by hitting the Red Dot button next to the trashcan.

You'll see a live image, but the Shaky Hand Icon will be OFF.
Aim the camera at something a bit distant (a fence post or something 20 feet or so away).

Depress the shutter button halfway.
After the camera finishes autofocusing, you should see the fence post stabilizes and the Shaky Hand Icon come ON.

I don't like the way this works, but it seems to be correct.

Was this a new lens and/or under warranty, and did it go to a Ricoh authorized service center?
Did you contact them right away after receiving the supposedly repaired lens?

When mine camer back from service, the tech comment on the worksheet said: "Replaced SR mechanism + lens barrel. Checked cleaned + adjusted". You might asked them what they did to fix it, if that wasnt on the work order/repair invoice.

Some other things to try if it doesn't go:

You might also check if you have the latest firmware in your camera v1.30
Power off the camera, unmount the lens. Power on the camera with no lens. Power off. Remount your lens. Power on, try again.

Write down your custom settings, and reset the camera.

The lens came back at the end of April, so it was about 7 weeks for the round trip, and the lens seems to be behaving normally - one quick buzz on startup. So am happy its done under warranty.
I got the 5-cent tour - Sun Camera Service has 2 Pentax techs there, and a bunch of folks that do Canon, Nikon, camcorders, and some film cameras. An impressive group of very talented people and some interesting equipment.
Nice people.

The card reader can make a huge difference in performance, as can the device driver, and where the data is going.
.
I have a Kingston and Autek that outperform several other readers. I think I have an old Lexar that is decent too.

Which card reader did you use for your tests?
What are the computer speccs (e.g. i7 3GHz) ?
Storage - SSD, HD, or NVME SSD ?
What software did you use for testing? (e.g. drag and drop with windows explorer, Silky Pix, or a benchmarking program?)
