I believe that the G Master line is designed with a minimum of 50MP. In fact, I think I read that many of them are capable of 100MP. If thatís true, it seems like itís plenty for the new body. Itís good to see that they are pushing boundaries and innovating. Sonyís lenses are really impressive performers. And they provide plenty of competition to keep other manufacturers on their toes.

The mass of their sales certainly comes from enthusiasts, like Canon and Nikon, but there seem to be more and more pros shooting with Sony gear. The feature set offers a whole lot to a broad range of photographers. Not to mention the addition of the new mic with a built in DAC. I know many who have made the switch from other platforms to Sony, and more who are strongly considering it. This new oneís pretty impressive. Iím really surprised at the buffer size and FPS at full resolution. Not to mention that crop mode offers basically the same resolution as their current aps-c offerings. Despite the advantages of really high res sensors, the a7r3 was too much for this enthusiastóso the newer one is even more so. My MacBook already screams at me when Iím editing 24mp images. :-)

So, I’ve been enamored of some new lenses. I ran across the old Zeiss range of lenses made for their CONTAX cameras late last year and picked up a 28/2.8 to test out. I loved it. Incredible contrasty images and solid as a rock construction. I’ve picked up a few more since, including a 60/2.8 Makro-Planar. Today I took an afternoon walk through my neighborhood with my daughter and had a chance to see what the lens can do. I’m smitten.

I just picked up an early Super-Takumar 50/1.4. The rendering is beautiful, and I love the flaring too!

It is indeed. We'll see how it renders images, since I have several others that I'd also categorize as 'Bokeh Monsters.' It's good to have options. :)

I just took delivery of a vintage Pentacon 135/2.8. I'd recently been made aware of the lens by a German friend, who highly recommended the earlier version of it. I was fortunate to buy one that looks brand new, with caps and case, and with the 15 blade aperture. Though the weekend was too busy for me to do much shooting with it, I am looking forward to taking it out this week to put it through its paces.

I’ve just started adapting older lenses to my A7iii. Starting with the smc-m 50/1.4 and super tak 50/1.4, and now taking on some legacy Zeiss glass too. I’ve not played with any AF adapted lenses, but even the Fotasy and Fotodiox branded adapters work fine for MF glass.

I've been shooting a lot with my Zeiss/Sony 55/1.8 lately. It's lightweight, super sharp, and the rendering is outstanding. The earlier three were all taken with the 55. I probably would have used the Zeiss/Sony 35/2.8 for the latter pair, since the focal length is similar to the 28. Even though the modern Zeiss lenses are lightweight and the image quality is superb, the lens weight and sensation of manually focusing--which I much prefer to the feel of focus-by-wire--brings something different out of the experience of taking photos.

Thanks! It was a cool moment to capture. :)

Here is another pair I took last night. These are among the first images that I took with my new (to me) Carl Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8. It's been in my hands less than 24hrs and I think I'm in love. I didn't expect to come back to manual focus from the modern AF lenses, but this one is winning me over.

Oh nice! I managed to get a great price on an 11 blade version along with an old Exacta camera. The few test portrait shots I took with busy backgrounds just blew me away with the swirly, smooth bokeh. I think itíll be a favorite.

I just returned home from a trip in which I spent time with some colleagues who are also passionate photographers. They’re vintage lens enthusiasts as well. Unfortunately, they inspired me to binge research and purchase some new glass. The first deliveries were today, and boy am I happy. One Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2 and Carl Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 are now in my possession. And the first tests look really good. :-)

I said goodbye to my last DA lens, the 40 Limited, and overall my favorite. It’s in the hands of an appreciative new owner now who will, no doubt, take many beautiful photos with it.

Pentax K-1ii VS Sony A7iii (Am I switching to the dark side?)

I can't argue with you. I do wish that I could have stayed with Pentax, but switching to something else made more sense with my needs. Pentax does a great job at what they do. As many people here say, pound for pound the K1 is the best landscape camera available. But, I don't shoot landscapes. :-/

Really informative video on lens design

This video goes into some detail about contemporary lens design that I found absolutely fascinating. While the video is indeed presenting a new Sony lens, it goes into the technological development that had to occur to permit this type of lens to be possible. It's that detail that I thought that people here would like to see. I, for one, did not know what exactly aspherical lenses did, nor how different types of lens forming affected the sharpness of the resulting image and smoothness of the bokeh. Really interesting.

Tracking is excellent on the A7iii, even as their 'basic' MILC. Excellent, fast tracking AF-C combined with 10fps, a relatively large buffer, and UHS-II card compatibility helps me get a lot more options for keepers when I'm shooting action. It also allows you to shoot even while the buffer is writing to the card, so there's no down time.

Totally. It's really roomy. I packed my camera gear and some other traveling necessities in it when I took it on its first trip.
