Safe travels! Have fun. Don't get too hung up on lens selection. Shoot plenty but still remember to experience things not just as a photographer - this trip is more than just an opportunity to take photos. Enjoy yourself!

Which lens to buy with a K-70

Honestly I strongly disagree with anyone yelling you to use a full frame lens as future proofing. A 24-70 will give up a a lot of wider angle coverage and be quite a bit heavier than needed. The lens is great on a k1 if the weight doesn't put you off but it is a beast compared to the 18-135. It is optically superior and faster, but in my opinion the k70 isn't the right place to mount that lens.

As for future proofing, seek lenses that work as intended now, sell what you don't need in the future. There is a time value of money ignored in buying more than you need now. Just rationalize purchases and don't buy too much without planning your future needs.

The Camera That Went To The Moon And Changed How We See It

My dad was in the photographic industry. And I was a typical kid obsessed with space. I was given several large metal poster sized hassleblad prints (advertising) of the moon photos. Sadly these have long since been lost in various moves.

Based on this it may not have been on metal, but it felt cold and it was rigid. I didn't have this specific shot, nor the packing materials. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F273114899911

I'm familiar with the 45mm rangefinders. The m43 lenses are rather a different thing given the use is more like a portrait lens on that platform.

My main point was that 45mm is very close to 50, and at the time of the post I had not seen the size or found specs. It is clear this is a smaller lens now, clearly designed to complement the small body.

Thank you. The 45 is quite a bit smaller. I'm glad they see some value in making smaller less fast lenses. Although to be fair a 24-70 f4 with great optics would be more interesting.

Why the 40 if...

Look 50mm is close to the focal plane distance making these not telephoto OR retrofocal. A simple design with high levels of softness and vignetting make tge 50mm 1.4 design smaller - but look at tge FA 35 f2 or an older 1.4 35mm. Those are also much smaller than modern 35mm 1.4 lenses. The 85 f1.4 designs had higher expectstions and more glass I'm sure they could have been a little smaller with more modest goals.

Look at apples to apples. The modern fat fifty lenses are all large or have significant compromises. The difference is glass, sharpness wide open, and vignetting.

I own 20+ modern autofo us Pentax lenses. I own limited series and DA* and fast lenses and I still find a lot of uses for the 18-135. Its a great sunny day lens. I'm not saying that's the only use, but in bright conditions it is quite the lens.

I own the 18-50 also. Super compact, light, good enough, but the range on the 18-135 is better and at 50mm the 18-135 is faster optically.

Whats the appeal of the 45 f2.8 exactly? Is it small? Does it have specific rendering? It seems an odd focal length, I'm sure the M 40 was viewed in a similar way but lately lenses have tended towards fast heavily corrected designs.

Behind a paywall, but all I can find so far:

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2019/07/10/ricoh-usa-cuts-offi...-half.amp.html

I have found other references but they mostly just report sq footage and location.

Not imaging offices btw.

I really like the images I get from my da 40. The lens just makes great photos with ease. I use it on a k3.

The 35 you use isn't in my arsenal. I had the DA 35 plastic fantastic but never quite fell for that lens. I like my FA 35 but an accident crippled it (acts like an M lens now). My FA 31 is quite nice but different. As someone else said the 40 also makes a good street lens, it puts people at ease.

Aren't there two types of firmware for the v6ii trigger?

Also as someone else said, double check the shutter speed to make sure it is below sync. (I doubt this is the issue or the rf60x would not fire unless it was in hss mode.

I used to use move files on Windows more than I do now. I had a few times when the transfer failed that lost files. Now if it is a large block of data or items I don't want to risk, I copy, paste, and then delete the old files.

Fast 85mm lens?

I owned the glorious A* 85 f1.4, sold it, bought the FA 77 f1.8 and never felt like I missed anything. But I've not used the FA* 85 f1.4 nor the Nikon. The A* admittedly was a bit sharper wide open than the FA* 85 from all that I've seen. I guess it really depends on what you want that modern lens to do...

The DF A has two versions. The non WR has an aperture ring. Also as someone else said the F and FA versions have the same optical format (albeit in a larger heavier design without a dedicated hood.

Edit: or did you mean the 31?

I've a similar complaint on the F* 300 it was user error. The user had no idea how the focus collar worked. Also the A setting on aperture ring.
