using reversed lenses that lack aperture rings

What lens are you using in reverse. Somehow your question is lacking some information. Can you stop down the lens and just want to control the aperture from the camera? Controlling aperture on a 6x7 lens in reverse on a 645 camera... there will be no automatic adapter, no market.

to keep or return that is the question.

If you are not happy, return it. Force yourself not to accept such troubles or try to identify the problem. I returned a couple lenses with nice specs that could have been nice, the just did not cut it and I returned them. If you like the specs, try another copy.

Pentax lenses measured worse?

We are talking about 2 or 3 current lenses, tested on different cameras, looking at only two parameters. Sample size is one. Original Pentax designs make the difference on Pentax cameras with Pentax cameras.
The DFA*50 and the upcoming 85 are not available for D800 :-)

A dramatic improvement will be needed to replace DA* 200/300. New AF,... is not enough. Pentax rather fill some gaps in the lens lineup or present a different class of tele lenses, i.e. large aperture, diffractive optics, ...
2.8/180...200 glass is not updated by Canon or Nikon. Here the 2.8 tele zooms sell=win. Even 300 mm is covered by zooms these days. Heavier, pricier, but they sell. Looks like even Fuji is joining the diffractive optics waggon. I am not sure whether Pentax could justify development cost these days.

K1 or K1 II ? (both same price)

Get the newer camera. I don‘t understand the fuss about downgrading af to screw drive and the long discussion about iso performance of K1 vs K1ii.
Firmware upgrades will cover ii longer, af is better, camera is newer, sell it later for more...

PLM 55-300, immune to Fine Adjustments?

What´s the Problem? Lens is in add adjustment. There is an effect between +/-10. Effect is small, but dof is large and also compensated for slight changes in af. Depending on lens, aperture, camera ... things can look quite different.

So the 50, the 35 and the 100M (last promotion with K1) can be added for free to one of the camera bodies. Good deal if you want to buy a camera. Pentax keeps pricing somehow stable. Just not the news most of us are waiting for.

Everything is possible, there is just no market. Even if 200 people will immediately say, they want to buy such thing. Pentax has no interest, Sony has no interest and other mounts sell better.

Define „best optical performance“. You can allow for larger distortion to improve optical performance. There will be no universal relationship.

Sigma 2.8 is hard to find and out of service. Pentax DFA is still in service and easily available used/new.
If you really want 2.8 or are looking for a 500 get a Canon/Nikon camera and study the used market.

I still go for the DFA 50, but I also agree that smaller lenses are needed for many different reasons. Small standard lenses are covered, so offer something more special to the rest.

Is used equipment selling well?

Maybe you are looking at the wrong market place. FA glass is typically overpriced due to small number of available units and lack of new designs. FA85 will sell well. DA300 should sell ok, DFA 24-70 the same.
What do you want to get new? K1 with 70-200/70-210?

ALL Pentax lenses are designed to fit FF k-mount. They all clear the mirror of K1... APS-C sensor cameras could work with even smaller lenses. Longer flange focal distance increases distortion... so k-Mount is FF. FA31 for instance has complicated design of a wide angle with back clearance longer than focal length. Performs like a 50 on APS-C, but weighs and costs much more.
I am happy to make full use of FF lenses, larger pixel pitch, shallow DOF, ... just looking for more modern FF lenses. APS-C is a TC-Option for FF owners. Denser pixel pitch result in narrower effective field of view. K1 performs much better than K3 and cropping is a joy. Resolution is insane, I agree, but 24Mpix is significantly less on smaller format and low Iso performance is also worse.
The new aps-c flagship may compete feature wise with K1. K1 clearly stands out against K3 and also KP on the feature leveler me. The new aps-c may be interesting as TC, for travel as well as for really new feature set above K1.

Best camera-lens combos for aerial photography
Posted By zapp

You can even use google earth and fly at a certain height over a landscape. Check distance to calculate focal length. For cityscape a zoom starting at wide angle makes most sense. Optical viewfinder and full camera control are required. We once used a Sigma 20mm lens from helicopter and the wind just pushed the focusing ring back.
Make sure you know how to talk to the pilot. Zoom with the helicopter not with your feet. 645 has widest exposure leverage. You can pull even dark shadows.
Keep yourself warm.
We typically remove a door for aerial survey flights to lean out for vertical shots, with climbers fixation... An open door makes any photography easier. After first flight think what you missed, looks like you go several times.

Last but not least, take you time. The world looks gorgeous up there, take time for composition and exposure rather than taking as many images possible.

"3 way" binocular and monocular projects

4x magnification is nice for theatres and maybe some spectator sports - if you use binos in a theatre. 4x4x Is not for handheld use and with an opening of 20 mm the exit pupil is tiny. The market seems very limited.
Classic 8x20 wins for me, or a larger 8x30ish.

... and what projects will be cancelled for the crowdfunded product ...
The mono/bino crowdfunding project basically raises awareness towards a new product idea. It is not sparked by the crowd boy paid for by it.
