K5IS0226 by thartwick, on Flickr The weather has been so dry in NE Ohio this year, it has muted the fall colors. There is a bit (but not much) of color in this shot. Rocky River Nature Center, Cleveland MetroParks. |

We've had an exceptionally warm fall which has extended "critter macro" season quite a bit! I've now accumulated a bit of a processing backlog to hopefully take me to the first flakes. :)
The following are all from the Montreal Botanical Garden last weekend, when it was just unbelievably summer-like. First two shots already posted in Show Me Your Insects. DA 10-17mm for the first, and the usual suspects (D-FA 100mm WR, Raynox DCR-250 and flash) for the other two. No focus stacking in these! :o:p Aster Galore! by Pascal Gaudette, on Flickr Spotted Speadwing Surprise by Pascal Gaudette, on Flickr If Humpty Dumpty Was a Ladybug by Pascal Gaudette, on Flickr

We've had an exceptionally warm fall so far, which has prolonged macro season quite a bit! Last year I shot my last dragonfly/damselfly on October 7th, and this year I got a bunch of shots just yesterday, October 23rd. And there's even no sub-freezing-point night in the forecast for the next two weeks. Dragonflies in November?
So here are a couple from the last few days.
1) A wide-angle close-up of a bumble bee pollinating an aster flower, whose bush that was just in total bloom this weekend at the Montreal Botanical Garden: Aster Galore! by Pascal Gaudette, on Flickr
2) A portrait shot of a Spotted Spreadwing damselfly at 2:1 plus a moderate crop. Frame is about 10mm wide: Spotted Speadwing Surprise by Pascal Gaudette, on Flickr

A few from a medieval event. Almost no lighting, and no flash. It really pushes the camera to allow decent results with very high ISO, often around 8000 or higher to maintain the high shutter speed to capture the flames properly. The K3 does well, but the K1 is even so much cleaner.
I prefer fire breathers, as they often supply much more light. :-) But None this evening. |
