From p.63 in the manual. "When (multi-auto white balance) is set, even if various light sources are present at the shooting location, the camera automatically adjusts the white balance according to the light source of each area." Basically it will use different WB settings in different areas of the same image. For example an interior lit by tungsten lighting where a window has an outdoor view, in theory both these areas should have their appropriate white balances set. The K-3 had this feature as well.

The K-1 in crop mode is 15.36 megapixels. They are definitely larger. It's more like a K-5 sensor.

Well, I gave the contacts a good scrub and sure enough, five successive power-ons and no trace of the focal length question. Thanks for the advice, please retract my observation.

When mounting a Sigma 12-24mm EX DG, camera will sometimes (but not always) ask to have focal length input, even though this lens doesn't require this for use with a K-3 or K-5. If I enter the default 100mm and then try to check it in the menu, the focal length item in the menu (camera 4) is greyed out, as it should be for a lens with the appropriate electrical contacts. Examining the EXIF data of an image shot at 12mm, the focal length appears as the correct 12mm. I realize that it's probably a Sigma firmware issue, but I'm surprised that it doesn't happen every time the camera is turned on with this lens mounted.

I ordered from my local B+M and got a call yesterday to say that the grip has arrived at the store and the camera is at the warehouse. The camera should be available at the store May 5.

A* 600 + 1.4X-L and cropped. The background is crap, the focus isn't great and they were way up in the tree, but I don't get to see Great Horned Owlets very often.

There was this review Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter Review - DA 1.4x and A 1.4X-L Compared | Reviews that compares the DA AW converter to the 1.4 X-L as well as the 1.4 X-S and the Tamron 1.4 TCs.

It's a beast, trust me. It's over twice the weight of an A*600mm. The glass required for the extra stop of light and the AF motor all add to the weight. Maybe start lifting a lot of weights.

K3 Battery Grip - dials

I don't have the problem with changing exposure that you mentioned but I'll agree with you on the positioning of the AF button. The grip on the K-5 had the AF button in the same position relative to the thumb ad the camera body did. Both the green button and the AF button were to the left of the thumb, one atop the other. With the K-3 the thumb has to move up to hit the AF button on the camera but to the left on the grip. I think these changes were made to accommodate the still/movie switch on the camera. Since I never take movies, if I had more money for goofy projects I'd pay a technician to rework the green button to become the AF button, then take the movie switch off the camera and replace it with a green button. Pentax, who is usually known for its user-friendly ergonomics, didn't think this through, IMO. I believe this has been discussed to death and Pentax didn't see fit to change it on the K-3 II so I've given up hope of a fix.

Also auction says "comes with bag and Cap." Photos show a rear cap but no front cap. A replacement front cap from B&H is going to be $30 and a clip-on cap won't work if the OEM lens hood is attached.

I have a Yuzo macro flash and while it doesn't provide TTL with digital cameras, it does provide auto-exposure like an older thyristor flash. It also features a point light source for more directional lighting.

Start the auction at $3,000 and get no bids. Start the auction at $2,800 and it shoots up to $3,100. I wonder if whoever wins this auction will ever know. The human psyche at an auction is a curious thing.

I was never one to complain about the lack of a FF Pentax body, happily shooting APS-C with the 1.5X crop factor for birding but I have to admit that the FF announcement has me curious. I'd like to try an FA 31mm on FF, I imagine it's a great street lens. Back when I shot film my SuperTak 85mm ƒ1.9 was always on my camera so that's a focal length that appeals to me. Maybe I won't be able to afford the new body for a while, but the lenses I have for it are

Pentax FA 31mm Limited
Pentax FA 43mm Limited
Pentax FA 50mm ƒ1.4
Pentax FA 50mm ƒ1.7
Pentax A 50mm ƒ1.2
Pentax A 50mm ƒ1.7
Pentax FA 77mm Limited
Pentax FA* 85mm
Pentax FA* 200mm ƒ4 Macro
Pentax FA* 300mm ƒ4.5
Pentax FA* 250-600mm
Pentax FA* 600mm
Pentax A* 600mm

Zenitar 16mm
Sigma 50-500mm
Voigtländer 58mm Nokton
Voigtländer 125mm Apo-Lanthar Macro
Lester Dine 105mm Macro
Vivitar Series 1 105mm Macro

And I ordered a Sigma 12-24mm from eBay to cover the UW end. These are the lenses that are designated FF, if any of my DA lenses work that's just an added bonus. I also hope that the DA TC works since it adjusts for SR. Also I'm hoping that the new, larger viewfinder will make manual focusing more accurate without having to resort to other focusing screens. I'm looking forward to this new experience.
