Q-S1 Sensor coating issue

Looking at it closer in the day and I can clearly see that there is a 1/3rd area of the glass where the purple tinted coating appears to be missing. There doesn't appear to be any scratches, just that missing area of coating. This is so strange. I've used these same swabs on my Sony mirrorless with no issues at all. I hope Pentax wants to grant me warranty coverage for this. What a big bummer. These coatings on the Q protective glass must be very sensitive, either that I have a defect.

Q-S1 Sensor coating issue

I have a Pentax Q-S1 here that had some specks on the sensor glass. I used some sensor swabs I ordered from Amazon that have worked for me on my sony cameras to clean the sensor. After a bit of swabbing at the Q's glass, it looked as though one of the smudges kept getting larger- after letting it totally dry and looking closer, it appears that some of the coating of the sensor glass is coming off.

I was shocked by this as delicate as I was trying to be with the little Q's sensor.

I am realizing that the glass is actually a cover over the actual sensor, feels as though it's held in place by some pressure springs/clips. Does anyone know if this glass cover is user replaceable? I didn't attempt to remove it. I unfortunately was unable to find anything purchasable around the web. I don't know if this would be covered by warranty. I am feeling a bit upset about it and any help is greatly appreciated. I haven't shot any photos with it yet as I'm in my dim lit house and the sun's down right now. Frustrated.

Thanks all.

Has anyone taken apart the DA-L 18-55WR?

It likely just comes apart in layers with some included felt pads and o-ring seals. Take it upon yourself and dive in, be sure to take plenty of photos for yourself (for reassembly purposes) and for us

I entirely disassembled my 18-250mm Pentax DA lens a couple years ago. It was a bit of a nightmare being my first-ever lens disassembly; it was full of dirt. It went back together entirely, lost two of the little plastic nylon bushings in the carpet, miraculously recovered them- just don't be a moron like me and work on a desk with enough room for your work and plenty of light- and patience.

Why is the K-5 IIs video mode so bad?

I know that the K7-K5II series is capable of producing great video, it's up to how much work the user puts into it. You can go grab the best from canon or a $10,000 Red epic rig and they all take the same amount of work to produce a good presentable video. With the lack of clean straight 1080p HDMI output, it does limit abilities of making your production easier using external recorders, but an external monitor works perfectly on the K7-K5II.

The file format is a bit rubbish with that MJPEG but it works and produces a clean image if you run it through premiere or even Videopad and push it back out in a high converted bitrate.

While filming, or just before shooting, you can set your F stop and use the Exposure lock to set your exposure, no you will not be able to set exact numbers for ISO and shutter speed, but it works. Aim at your exposure point and hit the AE lock, shoot. You can unlock and re-lock AE while filming.

I haven't gotten deep into shooting anything with high production value. I'll post a few sample shots-

Using a liquid cooling block may be a better idea, portable battery back to run the pump, radiator/reservoir. Vibration free and make the camera unit itself smaller.

Wow, wonderful shot.

I don't think my FA50mm would be able to rock a crisp shot like that at F2.0. No way.

another new image of K-3!?

OLED view finder would surely be awesome, that way the viewfinder becomes as useful as the LCD display potentially can be during live-view shooting but the one thing I have heard from the D7100 and Sony a- users is that night-photography can be a bit tedious without being able to see the raw image through the viewfinder,

Cool enough though, I'm excited to see what comes.

Pentax K7 video time reduced :(

I could be entirely wrong and dumb here, but isn't the fat32 memory card format limited to a certain size of individual files? I was considering the Sony A77 SLR for my video/photo powerhorse over the K5 II and the a77 has its limitations as well but not near the limitation of the Pentax... and the a77 films at 1080p 60fps.

Geez, glad the camera is okay. As for the lens, glad it's okay too. I wish the lenses were more easy to work on. My every-day plain Jane favorite pentax 18-250 has built quite a bit of dust in the internals and I'm quite frightened to take it apart and clean it. Pentax told me to mail it to them to "see" if they were able to still work on that lens or not for a cleaning and replacement most-outer segment. Hmm.

Nice job! some good shots in there.

Same here my 18-250 is my every day lens for everything. GREAT lens. Takes crisp shots near and far and is quick focusing. A bit rough in indoor shots though without a flash.

I very much suggest the 20mm Sigma F1.8 for DSLR pentax mount...

Super sharp, such a great build, just creates BEAUTIFUL shots and is very fast indoors.

Just traded it for a 10-17mm pentax fisheye, but i will absolutely get that 20mm sigma back as soon as money is available.

+1 for the DA18-250

It's my all around use lens, always on my camera. Doesn't feel too fragile, I bump it around quite a bit, it's been great for over a year now, I have nothing to complain about it at all. It's sharper than the 18-55mm kit lens in all ranges. K20D's IS system works perfect alongside the telephoto ranges of this lens.

Love it. Worth it. Great lens.

How to replace broken LCD on Pentax K100D
Posted By steve500

Not too bad of a process to get the rear of the camera off, there's TEENY WEENY soldered wires in there that you don't normally find when taking common computer components apart, those solders come undone very easily, I changed the motherboard in my K20D last year, I think it was around 7 wires I had to unsolder and solder, patience! ... when poking around in there, you shouldn't have any wires to unsolder, the lcd is held in my 4 small phillips screws, on my K20d there was a ground wire fitted to one of the screws that falls under the motherboard and easy to miss and forget about, so if the K100D has any ground wires connected to those screws, be sure to get them back connected.

Think I'm going for the 10-20mm Sigma.... If I want to get a fisheye affect, i'll PS is.

If I want a true fishy-eye affect, I may go with one of those 8mm samyang copies later on.

Wow, thanks for all of the very great replies, and I do apologize for posting in the incorrect section of the forum, whoops. Also, I accidently said I have the 18-300mm pentax DA lens, ... it's actually a 18-250, whoops again.

Now... reading all of the replies, as everyone says great things about the 10-17, everyone says just as great things about the 10-20 sigma. ... Going through the 10-20mm club photos, I really like them, but when I go back and view the fisheye 10-17mm samples, I'm so damn torn!
