I still dont understand why everyone is bashing on this based on only one dude's experience... and why was it returned and not asked for a replacement? It could have been just a bad copy? I wish to see another person experience with another copy of the tube, and not just kept complaining before seeing more reviews.

i experienced a hang last night. Been shooting on Av, RAW, whole night no problem. Then after one photo was taken, the camera hangs on the preview photo for about 10 seconds (may be shorter, so drunk). I press all the button and could not get out the preview, power off the camera, but didnt help, still stuck on preview. Was about to remove the battery, then it powered off.

There are so many quality of life feature missing in the K3... I wish RICOH get a grip and implant them in their next firmware, or someone make a custom firmware...

Choosing lens for my girl friend

Hi all,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have went ahead and purchased the 18-135.
I understand many other have suggested other gear such as 18-250, 18-270, 17-70 etc... No doubt they are great but after trying out the 18-135 first hand, I am sold.

First of all, sorry for not mentioning what my girl friend wants to shoot. I don't know, neither does she.
The biggest point is one lens does it all.

I understand 135mm may not be very much reach, but we are not shooting sports or wild life here, so 135 is just enough. If we really need a little more reach, i can take my 50-200mm with me. Or put the x1.4 TC on my DA* 50-135 and she will cry about how heavy it is, which she will not, since she doesn't want to change lens often.

the other reason for going for the 18-135 is the size and weight. When I gave the lens to her, she was extremely happy. If she is happy, I am happy. She really like how light it was and not impossible to carry. (unlike my gear) Not to mention she has been mentioning to go on a holiday like every week, so travel light is a must.

Another point its the DC motor, although she is not too bothered by the focusing sound, I am. When I tried the lens first hand, my god, it was quiet! AF was FAST! I wish my DA* SDM is as fast as that....

last but not least, WR. When I told her that Pentax body are WR, but not all lenses are, she laugh and said "Then why bother making the body WR if the lenses weren't?" So... WR lens is no brainer~

anyway, thanks for all your suggestions!

(damn, I want that lens too... what a great lens to travel with)

haha, that would be me! If she worth at least a FA31, what do I worth? xD

The two attached.

I understand it is quite easy to remove in Lightroom, I myself mostly shoot RAW, but I want to purchase this for my lens for my girl friend, who literally just started photography, and of course she is going to shoot jpg. Correct me if I am wrong, is correcting CA just as easy with jpg vs raw?

Thanks all! I will get her the 18-135. Just walked around my local camera mall, found 3 second hand for no more than 300. Brand new for 500. Gonna bring my K3 to test those 2nd hand, and if all good, that's what i will be getting her~!

Thanks all!

This is the thread I looked at too, at the last page was where the ruby match was, and the CA was so noticeable even for thumbnail.

Just one thing i would like to know, how noisy is the auto focus. I love SDM, never failed me, its nice and quiet. I know the 18-135 is not SDM....

Hi all,

My gird friend just ordered a K50 white x light blue version, and it will take about 3 weeks to deliver. She has no experience with DSLR before, this will be her first. She really like the K50 because it is very light. I also want to get her a good versatile lens, and the kit lens its a bit limiting...

I have given thought to the 18-135, but the reviews of its IQ aren't really that good. I even seen some sample pic from the forum, where a user was shooting a girl ruby match. The CA was VERY noticeable even for thumbnail... :(

I also looked at DA 17-70mm, the reviews also weren't very good neither...

I have the DA* 16-50, DA* 50-135, DA-HD 35mm f2.8 macro, DA 16-45 f/4 and the DA 50-200.

My DA* lenses are too heavy for her. 16-45 only takes wide angle, and exact opposite for 50-200, and I dont want her carry 2 lenses, she wants to travel light.

Any suggestion?

Just in case you are wondering whats the difference between Hong Konger and Chinese. We don't speak the same language.

Interesting lense naming

I have been browsing a Chinese forum on pentax stuff, and came across some really interesting thing.

They calls their lense name in a very funny name, for example:

165
535
625

there are lots more, can anyone guess which lense they are referring to?

the answer is:

16-50
50-135
60-250

^highlight the above area for answer.

here is the thread me asking why that is:
http://forum.xitek.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1297823&extra=

so they said typing the fully name takes too much time, and even worst if call them by their nick name.

also, they call the three amigos (31, 43, & 77mm limited lenses) the three princess.
31mm as the small princess (or young princess)
43mm as the eldest princess (literal translation would be long princess)
77mm as the second princess

problem with SMC M 50mm 1.4

Hi Sorins,

I used to have the K10D with the M 50mm 1.4 too, for 8 years! That lense was on the camera for 90% of the time, its great! I recently upgraded to the K3 and things are not so good...

Its not the camera's fault, well... it is actually... Because the K3 is soooo much better than the K10D, I have noticed that lense its not perfect, it is not a very sharp lense. I still love my 50mm 1.4, I love big eyes. But I also purchased the 50-135, the sharpness on that is incredible. Of course, those are 2 different lenses, but if you start shooting with such high pixel camera, the flaws of the M 50mm 1.4 starts showing, the only way its to step down 1 stop. I am considering to upgrade to the DA* 55m f1.4

Just got my TC, but am I silly?

I owned the K10D, DA 16-45mm F/4 and DA 50-200mm F/4-5.6 for over 8 years, and I am finally financially capable for purchasing (mostly second hand) equipments.

I have upgraded my gear to K3, DA* 16-50mm F/2.8 and DA* 50-135mm F/2.8, and now my TC x1.4 just arrived. The general consensus of the TC IQ is very good, and I have did a few test and can confirm it is very good too.

But am I being a silly person of using the TC with 50-135 since there is not much reach gained?

Shot with 16-50mm

Shot with 50-135mm

Really loving both the lense.

May be I should wait for the 135-380 to be release and use the TC with it for more efficiency?
