I really like the perspective of the second one. The subdued colors work well. I also like the color version of the last one, although the black and white is already starting to grow on me.

I think I like the grass in #2 better, but the clouds in #1. Tough decision.

I like the perspective and composition of #3. Looks like it could be an ad shot. Great series

Frustrated with monitor/printer color discrepancies

I know this has kind of gone cold now, but I finally got around to doing some more comparisons. When I print from photoshop, the color is much better than using the software that came with my printer. I still haven't had anything printed by the local shop. I'll check in when I get some time to take some shots up there.

After looking at the two different versions, I think I prefer the one with the mast. Without it, the frame seems a bit unbalanced. May just be my warped mind though ;)

Looks like you're off to a good start with your studio. Only thing I would comment on is that some look a little overexposed, especially the last one, I have a hard time telling where her forehead ends and the background begins. Could just be my monitor as well, but all in all, a nice series, love all the poses.

Haven't posted anything in a while, so here's a couple recent shots I like:

Local downtown skyline, shot with K100D and the DA18-55:

A shot of our dog being lazy, she loves to lie on the top of the couch. Taken with K100D and FA 50mm 1.4 @f/2.0:

Let me know what you think, C&C is always welcome

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. I'll be taking some of my files to the local camera shop to have them printed and see what the differences are. Anyone else have some suggestions for printer calibration that don't involve buying a $500 calibration unit?

I have a Canon MP500 and it's also very good (although I'm having some color/calibration issues right now, quality is great for the price). I compared it to Epson and HP before I bought and it seems the Canon gives the best performance for the price.

I was just curious about calibrating my monitor and printer. I have noticed that after pp, my pictures look good on my monitor, but when I print them, the colors look flat (mostly red deficient, making everything kind of muddy looking and cold). I have looked for monitor calibration tools, but I just want to make sure the problem would be resolved by that rather than a printer calibration tool. The printer tools are much more expensive and I will not be able to afford one, so I'm hoping a Huey Pro can help me with this. I have a Canon MP500 printer and a Dell 1708FP monitor. Are there profiles somewhere I can download without having to buy a calibration tool? I've tried printing through different programs such as Photoshop CS3, the Canon software that came with the printer, and the default Windows picture printing wizard. The color problem seems to occur no matter which method I use. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the Pentax community and the forum. I really like both of these, especially the second one. The motion in the background gives you a sense of the emotion of the day, but also allows you to focus on the subject. Looks like you're off to a good start with the K10.

Recently got to the Columbus Zoo and got some good shots. These are probably my two favorite captures from the day . C&C is always welcome:

American Bluebird:

Tigers, lounging in the shade:

Both were taken with my K100D and Sigma 70-210.

Welcome to the club. I've only had mine about a week and it's already becoming my favorite lens. The sharpness is just amazing even when it's wide open. Keep shooting, looks like you're off to a good start with this gem already

I just got my FA50 1.4 last week, and I have not been able to take any night scenes like this with it yet, but I plan on heading out tonight to get some shots of the local skyline here. I hope to see what it can do, as I already know it is very sharp even at f/1.4. Also, as some have suggested, stopping it down may help with the fringing you are seeing. The last time I took night time landscape photos, I used f/22. This of course requires a tripod, but it keeps the DOF very large, and can help keep the highlights down. I don't think I would go any larger than 4 when shooting scenes like this. Hope this helps. I'll also experiment tonight and post results so you can see the FA50 for yourself

I really like this series. The graffitti makes a great colorful background for the subject, and all the colors work together well.
