I've got a couple of other Pentax bodies but since I’ve gotten my Qs I hardly use them.

Anyone have 2 or more Q's?

I’m up to five (three Q-7, 2 Q-S1), I really only need two, but the deals were just too good to pass up (about three years ago), they all still work and I use them all. I've got all the lenses (except for the toys), and a ton of adapted lenses.

You can never have too many Qs!

Of course, the Sony has many differences.

The point of the comparison is that the general body size and shape are very similar. The K-01 was savagely attacked for having that shape.

I show them the Auto 110 50mm first (about the size of a film can), then show them images made from it:

If you took the flash off the K-01 they would be even closer in size and weight!

Anyone ever have a broken Q series camera or lens?

I've had a 06 go bad, when it's broke it's broke, focus is by wire and that is what goes bad.

I've got an 01 that an element must have shifted and is out of focus on one side.

Other than that, my 5 Q bodies and 8 lenses are still going strong. One of my Q-S1 bodies did a dive from a moving bicycle onto a paved trail and after I glued the bits of the SD card door back together it still works perfectly.

Now you can order a Metabones K to Q Speedbooster!

The Devil is in the details.

Why would someone spend more on the Metabones than on the camera?

People spend a lot more than that on Leica gear.

What's the gain? Two stops.

What's the purpose? To allow shooting in lower light and/or with greater DOF.

Why not spend a like amount on another camera with better lenses and sensor?

What other lens/camera combo has a FF equivalent FOV of a 130mm with an F0.666 aperture? At any price? At any size that’s even close to the Q + Metabones + 50mm? A 130mm f0.666 lens would be about 8 inches wide!

This a specialized item, elegantly constructed and evidently (from Abbazz's review) works well. The combo would fit in a jacket pocket.

Not for the faint of heart.

UPDATE: BTW it is cheaper than a Pentax 1.4x converter!

Yes, they are holding their value, especially when compared to the earlier Nikon 1 series. As I see it, the biggest thing is that they are unique, there is nothing else quite like them, even the Nikon 1 lacks the Qs versatility and adaptability. It also helps that the Q menu system is nearly the same as its "bigger brothers" making it a great compact camera for Pentax owners.

The various Qs seemed to be cheapest about three years ago (I have FIVE bodies) but the more desirable Q-7 seems to be scarcer now. Lots of Q-10s, some original Q's, and a fair amount of Q-S1s show up on eBay from Japan. There are eBay auctions from domestic (US) sources from time to time; I got a Q-7 with 01, 02, and 06 for $300 a couple of years ago from a seller in Texas.

Most other small digital cameras from other manufacturers would be replaced by new models every six months or so, making the old models nearly worthless. Then smart phones killed the market, the best of them are still a little short of the Q's IQ and nowhere near as versatile.

The C and D mount lens club

I have used a Yvar 36mm f2.8 D mount lens. It has good edge to edge sharpness, you can often find them on Bolex B8 cameras, sometimes in antique stores for about $30-50. They have a long throw so they are slow to focus (manual, of course) but do focus as close as 18 inches. See this YouTube video:

You Tube

The chrome Cosmicar 25mm f1.4 (c mount) is another good lens, and fast. You can often find them under $40 on eBay. They are somewhat "glowy" wide open, but are very good stopped down a little.

Does anyone actually print photos any more?

I’ve had a Canon Pro-100 for over three years now. Sometimes it sits for months, sometimes it is used a lot. I've never had a problem with the heads clogging. I have printed several hundred 13x19s, some for photo exhibits, some for posters for others, some for craft projects, even some for my class reunion. That said, I would argue against getting a printer unless you have a variety of uses for it. Yes, it does use ink, but if your monitor is reasonably accurate it gets 90% first run if you use the stock printer profiles and add +20 saturation.

Like ChrisPlatt, I have not had good luck with Epson printers - both home and commercial.

How many Q bodies do you have?

In order: model, date and price:

Black Q-S1 (May 2015) $245 with 02
Yellow Q7 (September 2015) $230 with 02
Black Q7 (2016) $225
Red/gray Q-S1 (2018) $208
Silver Q7 (May 2019) $300 with 01, 02, 06, and 40.5 polarizer

I have three 01s (one is de-centered), three 02s, one 03, three 06 (one is dead), one 07, and one 08.

I've also got 6 Auto 110 lenses, numerous c-mount and d-mount lenses and various adapters.

I don't have any justification for having more than two other than: I got them for very good prices and as "insurance" in case one of the bodies died, which hasn't happened, of course. I don't think I’ll be getting any more although there is a pink Q10 on ebay right now that looks inviting.

Why are the Q's so expensive??

I've got three Q7s and Two Q-S1s, so I’m set.

For a long and fast telephoto, the Navitron 75mm f1.3 (c-mount) is hard to beat but big, often less than $100 + c mount adapter. For Pentax Auto 110 lenses, the 50mm is most usable: $30 + adapter (the Kipon might be better than the Fotodiox.) An auto 110 kit with 3 lenses and the supplementary lenses can sometimes be found for under $100—it’s a great way to experiment: the 18mm with the W21 close-up lens is a super “mini-macro” setup. Check out the “adapted lenses” sticky for the Q. I would stay away from D mount and “machine vision” lenses, they are often hard to use and may not cover full frame. The Cosmicar TV lenses (c mount) are worth looking at if you don't have an 06. Native Q lenses are pretty reasonably priced, the 03 is a riot.

I'm not real keen on adapting PK mount lenses on the Qs - the Qs sensors are unforgiving in their resolution and the combination can be awkward to use. An exception to this would be macro lenses.

At the risk of seeming shallow, I would have to say that getting into the Pentax Q system has made the biggest difference in my photography. To be freed from the "gear mentality" of hauling around a bunch of heavy gear has allowed me to integrate photography into my daily life. To be able to get high quality images from a camera that weighs only a couple of ounces and dangles from my wrist is a revelation.
