Comment is appreciated coming from you. The dog was fully relaxed in that dinghy unlike all the ones on the beach that kept barking at it.

Me too. It had been a while since I'd taken any photos of this sort, and I had no idea which ones might turn out, but this is one I really did hope would work.

I think somewhere between the two is the "right" overall image. Of the two I like the uncropped better because it gives more context/perspective, and so I'd only crop it a little. Great shot either way.

That would explain why the hood sort of screws on, but doesn't fit quite right. It still seems like it might work well, so I'll probably give it a workout at some point. Although I'd hate to do anything to my K135, as I really enjoy using that lens.

Thanks for that info. I guess it makes sense, because with the pillars so dark, being out of of focus doesn't really matter, and if anything, not being sharp helps the overall image.

Superb. Not what I was expecting for a 50/1.4 shot (where the usual emphasis is using the 1.4 end).

Which one to keep? smc pentax-m 1.4 50mm, smc pentax-m 1.7 50mm or tsmc Tak f2 55mm

I have the M50/1.4 and A50/1.7 and at least two or three 50 or 55 Taks. When I want to experiment, the M50/1.4 gives me more potential, but if I could only choose either of the K mount lenses, I'd probably stick with my A50/1.7 because I can trust it wide open, both for its own sharpness, and the likelihood I *might* get things into focus. I took the Taks out of the equation, because I consider all my m42 lenses things I experiment with when I feel like playing around with adapters, extension tubes etc etc.

Thank you. I've been so inactive on the forums the past couple of years, I either didn't know or had forgotten about his passing. I didn't discover this news until I went digging around after I posted some non-squirrel shots (they were chased away by the birds) and there was less of a response than I expected. (Blame the Squirrels - PentaxForums.com)

Definitely a void without him here. He had a view of life that I found interesting to read.

Phil, for the round hoods would it be hard to put their height (or depth depending on how you look at things)?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking for a hood for a K135/3.5 (the Round 52mm – Telephoto) and I happen to have a hood from a Takumar 135/3.5 so I was wondering if they are roughly the same dimensions. And there may be other situations where Takumar hoods could work.

Nature Thinking of Rupert

If I wanted to take picture of squirrels, I'd put the camera outside on a tripod and enjoy a lazy afternoon in my backyard.

But when out at one of the city parks and confronted with some wildlife, it seemed worthwhile to try to capture the squirrels and the competition between them and the various birds for the nuts and seeds that had been left for them. And they were partly captured with Rupert in mind, and the collective membership of the Forums. I've been far less active the past couple of years (and by and large not done much photography), but I've still visited now and then.

A few from a recent trip to the beaches with the bluffs (escarpment) . First one shot using a F35-70 @ 35mm, the others using a K135. Minimal post-processing.

Tony - lovely flower. Did you try shooting at angles other than top down? Sometimes you can get a good contrast between the petals and leaves with only a small shift in angle or position.

And this is how I've now learned about it. I was going to post a few squirrel shots, which I took with him in mind, but I'll spare the broader crowd. I was never enamored with all the squirrel images as they did get a bit much, but I certainly enjoyed chatting with Rupert.

Because as the bird came swooping in, the squirrels took off in a hurry. There was a lot of competition for those seeds, and also for ideal perches on the branches in the surrounding area.

Neither of these are great bird in flight images, but in neither case was that the focus. For each, the aim was on the seeds, hoping to catch the squirrels.

In one, you can see how they raced away when the bird arrived, and in the other, there was a bit of competition going on.

They were both surprise captures for me, which seemed enough of a reason to share.

I don't mind the face on capture. You have enough different elements, shape, colors and forms that overall it tells a complete story.
