Concert shots done with K-3 II.

Greetings from another gig photographer, albeit an enthusiastic amateur who usually has to take photos from the audience. In fact, I don't think I have ever taken photos when there was a photo pit. I progressed from the K-5 to the K-3 and had to stop using ISO6400 as I found it too damn noisy. I also set my exposure to -0.7EV which does tend to increase noise when I up the exposure in Lightroom. But as you say, it preserves the highlights.

Actually, although I call myself an amateur, a magazine used a few of my shots and I received a free subscription, currently 3 years and counting. Plus one band included a couple of photos on their CD insert, which got me a free copy of the CD. Does that mean I am semi-pro? :D:D:D

@john5100 - I am very impressed with your ability to shoot using ISO 10,000. What's your secret?

Just to clarify that this isn't really a 6 year warranty. First the onus is on you, the buyer, to prove that any failure is due to an inherent fault that was there at the time of purchase. You also have to prove that you would reasonably expect the item to last more than 6 years. Assuming you can prove both these things you are only entitled to damages, i.e. a notional amount based on price paid less value of benefit received.

So in this case, Pentax were being generous as they were not required to replace. All they had to do was make an offer - probably the price of a second hand replacement or maybe the cost of repair.

Notwithstanding the the various hoops the buyer must go through, it's still a whole deal better than "Tough!" but it isn't what most folk think of as a warranty.

Thanks folks, it seems I am not alone

It's funny/sad that when I read that people use their photos as wallpaper and screensaver, I thought "So do I". And then someone said about uploading thousands onto Flickr, guess what - so did I. But I suppose wallpapers and screensavers are primarily viewed by oneself, and with one or two exceptions, most of my uploads onto Flickr had very few views. Perhaps that's it. Am I looking for ego-boosting compliments? To be reassured that I am a good photographer? I think that is probably the case. It explains why I always felt a little fed up that my photos might scrape a dozen or so views on Flickr when someone else's photo (which, in my very humble opinion, was no "better" than mine) would be seen by hundreds or even thousands.

Ah well. perhaps I need to create a few photobooks to leave around the house when people visit. Maybe dig out my old 800*600 photoframe and load it up with photos.

Finally, an apology. I obviously didn't check properly as this same question was asked back in January. Sorry!

I guess it's obvious that being on a Pentax forum, I would definitely agree with Pentax.

I suppose that VW is the car as I have driven more of these over the last 30 years than any other marque.

As for computers, I must admit that I am in the Microsoft camp. I love the fact that I can tinker with the PC and add all sorts of 3rd party components. So while I loved the Apple II, I wouldn't have any technology from the Cupertino organisation as I don't want to be told what I can and can't do!

Hmmm, almost pointless trying to find any live video, although that doesn't mean there isn't any. OK, let's select a little ditty from one of my favourite bands

I was doing some housekeeping on my PC and realised that I have over 50,000 photos (all DNG) on my hard disk. What's more, I would have processed the vast majority in Lightroom and exported them as JPGs. And that is where the vast majority remain. I have half a dozen on the wall but that's about it. I have to admit, I wasn't much better in the days of film. In my study are several boxes of prints and even a few dozen transparencies.

So, am I alone in spending hours taking photos and even more hours processing them; only to abandon the finished product on a hard disk?

What Do Fellow Pentaxians Do For A Living?

Started working life as an accountant. One minor issue was that I hate exams, at least I hate exams in subjects that I don't find interesting. The upshot was that I never qualified so never got letters after my name. After about 22 years I decided to do something far more exciting and moved into IT and implemented financials packages. 26 years later I took voluntary redundancy and now do absolutely sweet FA. The hours are great but the pay is nowhere near as good.

Being a real boring old fart, I'm still listening to the music of my youth. More specifically early 60s to mid 70s (with a few honourable exceptions). I decided in 1976 that I was too old for the UK punk scene (I was only 24 but had no intention of cutting my long hair and being spat at) so thought I'd stick with "my" music.Still discovering bands/albums from way back when that I hadn't heard of, as well as rediscovering forgotten gems.

Your "minimum kit" per purpose

Luckily I never succumbed to LBA - just couldn't afford it! :-) So my minimum kit is also my maximum kit. One K3 with Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and another K3 with a Sigma 70 -200mm f2.8. Both cameras are kept in a Lowepro Urban Reporter 350 bag, along with spare batteries and SD cards. So whatever I am doing I just grab the one bag.

And while I know that primes are much better than zooms, I am terribly cack-handed when trying to swap lenses. Also massively reduces the opportunity for dust to get in as I never have to take the lens off in the field.

In camera v on lens stabilisation

For the last 3 years I've been shooting with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM on my K3. I've tried using both options for SR (obviously not intentionally at the same time) but can't make up my mind whether one is better than the other. I have to admit that I haven't attempted a side by side comparison test, mainly because my technique is still pretty poor. I can take two consecutive photos of the same subject, the first will be nice and sharp while the next will look slightly out of focus. I had hoped that I would have improved after 3 years :(

Anyway, anyone here have a preference for camera v lens?

And only another 34,701 posts to go before the raffle!!!
