Any PF Filmies Thinking of Snagging a K-1?

..and yesterday while in the camera shop with a FF Nikon in my hands (the D750), in walks a guy with an Olympus OM-1n he wants cleaned, inspected, lubed, made ready to rumble as he's going back to film...:)

I walk out with the Nikon after saying goodbye to the $0 balance on my VISA. I plan to update my K-5IIs later though.

Where do you get your film developed?

For the time being, I can still take my C-41 color film to Walgreen's. That said, sometimes the guys get lax or something (like..cheap) and the chemistry fails. I have gone to Sam's Club in my hometown, and they did a pretty decent job for
about $6. However, if you plan to get back into the swing with your film camera I'd approach a real camera store and see who they send their film out to. There are still some big regional laboratories that do a lot of commercial work that my local real shop sends their film work out to. The costs are higher, but their scans' quality is higher than Walgreen's, etc.

All film and the kiosk are .... GONE from my Walgreen's

Perhaps they'll keep a few centers going in my area; my first roll with the Leica (a Z2X compact, it's all I can afford of that make;)) purchased a few months ago (but had expired in 2001!) came back looking horrible. The camera did its job, but the expired film (and maybe the processing chemicals needed replenishment)

Well, guys...my nearest Walgreen's is packing up their film processing equipment next month. Currently, it's down and they are in no hurry to repair it. For the time-being, the next closest one is still going but the specialist said the store isn't making much of a return on processing. The handwriting appears to be on the wall, for my area Walgreen's too..

And to finish it off, yesterday I found a compact film Leica (probably a Minolta except for the red dot!) for $95. My test roll of C-41 is the one I dropped off tonight:(

Update: the Yashica 230 AF and 300 AFs are dead. Recently was given a Canon Canonet 28, and picked up a Minolta Hi-Matic E and Yashica MG-1.

Walgreen's for my C-41; black and white I've found a place in the DC area named Dodge Chrome that's pretty good (overall). I found a small (privately owned, one man operation) camera shop nearby with their own mini-lab that I plan to try; but I've not shot any film in the past several months. Locally, the only convenient place still doing C-41 is Walgreen's; the other chains are sending everything out.

Got two new (to me) rangefinders recently; a Canon Canonet 28, and a Minolta Hi-Matic E. Planning to get out Saturday and use up some T-Max 100 with them. July 4th I used some Kentmere 100 in a Contax SLR; lots of scratches and dust marks (and drying marks) on the prints and scans but not the negatives :(; I'm going back to the lab I used this spring). The Canon's light seals aren't too good, but a test roll of color came out swell.

I've never had the need to try it, but have heard that newspapers crumpled up and left in a bag or other closed container would help. Would help absorb any moisture and the ink/dyes in the newsprint would leave a low impact clean fragrance.

Has anyone had much experience with Kentmere 100 and 400? I saw a few images in another thread or two; I spotted both 100 and 400 rolls this afternoon at a shop (alas, to discuss bringing in my ME which has a sticking shutter and also a Yashica with the same ailment) and picked up a few rolls of each.:)

Thanks!

Another from my walk that day. Nikon N2000, Kodak T-Max 400. Decent for what was intended as a parts camera for my brother's N2000.

No PP to the scan; but it is a touch off...realized I posted one image in the series too soon. Other image was on more of an even keel. Both hand-held, while standing on something of a slope along the path. A little fill flash may have helped, but was trekking light that day.

Kodak T-Max 400 (from a new lab, and reduced to 1MB from a high res scan), Nikon N2000, 35-105mm Nikkor, +0.3 and Program at about 40mm...

For starters, turning the pages of my 1977-78 Sears Camera Catalog a Pentax MX with 50mm f1.7 lens was listed at $299.50 (the Olympus OM-1 with an f1.8 was $5 less). The K-1000 was $154.50 with an f2.0. With a metal body and similar to the MX or OM-1 (I have an OM-1n) feature wise but with 1/2000 top shutter speed, I'd be willing to part with...$500 body only if it were the real deal. Just to get the conversation started.:)

(I now duck out of the way...)

I use commercial labs; this roll (as a bugler plays "Taps") was processed by a now closed Calumet Photo shop in Wash. DC in their in-house lab, with a high res scan. Back in college, I did Tri-X in D-76 and Dektol, but now all film goes out.

Careful now, you may get to love doing your own film so much you put the Q on the shelf....;)

I think I may have shot my last BW400CN, but the T-Max will be my fave from here on.
When it warms up and the cherry blossoms bloom in DC, I've plans to shot all film then.
(Well, and my K-5...).

T-MAX 400 is a very forgiving film for me, lots of latitude...even the crow that was near the top of one tree was captured.
It captured the shadows well, but the whites (actually, sort of off white) of the buildings didn't wash out. The Maxxum
70D I believe may have been the last film Minolta introduced, so all the goodies they had at their disposal for metering, etc. were plunked into it. I changed positions a couple of times, that view looked good and the camera and film came through. Think it was Aperture Priority at f11, and at 24mm.

Not sure if I've posted this one before; not bad for a $20 Ebay (with shipping) buy.

Yashica Ninja Star II point and shoot, Kodak BW400CN. Looks better a little smaller, low res scan...[COLOR="Silver"]

Thanks, Steve..that was from my first roll of b&w with that combo, taken in late October 2013 at Mount Vernon, VA.

It was a beautiful day when I took this; reduced from 2MB other wise straight from the scanned image CD. Minolta Maxxum 70D, 24-135 Tamron, T-Max 400. The print was gorgeous!

I would, but have mixed feelings about it. I see younger folks running around with film cameras (the fellow next to me
at the zoo recently was much younger than the Minolta XG-M with winder he was carrying) that perhaps are art students; but the labs/processor network is ever shrinking as others have mentioned. For those of us without our own lab, we may have..10 years? :(
