Sigma 120-300 f.28 - how many versions ?

Hmm... the review here of the Sig 70-200 f2.8 ( both DG and Non DG ) is as good as the 120-300 f2.8, so perhaps sacrificing 100mm FL wouldnt be such a crime. Then again, the Sig 100-300 f4 also gets a fantastic review

So is that it - there's no older zoom lenses in the 120-300 ballpark @ f2.8 available in K mount ?

Buffering

Thanks guys - good help here.

I pretty much dont burst beyond 8 or 10 at the most, mainly for birds on the move, or sports Moto X - so this should be ok using RAW, as RAW is all i use. I think i'll seek out some better class cards, as that'll be a good start

Some examples of HS Continuous - the camera copes well enough in this respect - so i'll take the card advice and go from there

Cheers !

...but way back in 2005 , which is the model i was looking at - the EX APO HSM... pre DG version,.... and Ephotozine review back then had this listed in Pentax mount. Was this a mistake on their part ?

Buffering

Thanks - just seen the tiny number 4 next to the letter C !!

Yeah my problem isnt so much the shot time, as the K-7 rattles off clicks quite nicely on continuous, but moreso the recovery time of the camera after a burst. I have to wait for ages. I guess this is down to the old class of card ?? So perhaps this is a card write speed problem rather than a buffer problem

Is it possible thats its not the Focus Screen, but the viewfinder glass itself ? In which case, i'm not sure its possible to get at it.

Is it the camera ( in my case the K-7 ) that limits buffering or the card, or both ?

I'm wondering if i can speed up the buffering time, as using continuous RAW shooting really slows down the action. Even a lowly 5 shot burst seems to take too long.

I currently use Silicon Power SDHC cards, but have no idea which Class they are

Does anyone know how many versions of the 120-300mm f2.8 Sigma built ?

Just looking at the price of the latest version , and the fact there doesnt seem to be a K mount, was really thinking of maybe an earlier model, hoping they would be cheaper

yeah a small print would be much better but Shadman neverespecified the final size he wanted ( so i left it large -ish ) so the bigger the photo, the worse the IQ. Resizing those attempts would help

The brief wasnt to just convert a RAW - Shadman wanted his daughter to look good ! She's already a beauty, but there was a lot to do with the terrible scene setting in half dark, with bad noise and focus off.

Big blown section top left and part of the right side which has been cropped out but the shirt sleeve to the right was also partly blown. Its the best of a bad job really.

SMC 50mm F1.7 lens under exposing on a K200D

Thanks bear - that kinda settles my wondering. I dont mind the stock screen, but they always seem a little dull to me. My old K10, K200D, and even my Canon 450D and 40D were all the same.

I just fancied a brighter screen without going to a split type. I found the Katz Eye to be way over priced for what little advantage it gave in brightness. Add the fact that then realised i didnt like split screens

Plus i guess one would lose the viewable focus points

Anyone tried replacing flash unit on K-7 ?

My K-7 toppled over when on a tripod - it was only onto my lounge carpet from about 2 feet, but the gentle fall and padded landing on the thick carpet was just enough to pop out one of the 2 chrome side arms that push up the flash.
The chrome arm lost the retaining rivet on one end, the other end is actually a screw so its a shame that bit wasnt the piece that popped off, but now the arm just flops about. The flash still works fine, but i have to press the flash release button, then manually lift the unit into place. It will push back down and click back into place when finished with,

I figure this probably isnt a part that can easily be replaced by the user,... thats even if one could get hold of the K-7 flash unit part

Bear, leaving aside the metering, what does the focussing screen from an *iST look like when looking thru the VF when fitted to a 10d/20d ? Is it brighter than the stock 10d/20d screen ? I was just wondering if this LL-60 was any brighter to look through than a stock K-7 screen. I've tried split screens but didnt get on with them.

Then your only choice is the Pentax Service repair centre. Thats it, end of story. There's little point in carrying on with this, since you havent found your answer
