Sigma 17-50 is pretty good too. I believe the optical performance is comparable to Tamron 17-50.

Interesting comparison and thanks for sharing. I personally like the color of the Tamron lens. DA 15 is a unique lens in terms of weight and size. It also had very good flare control. However the optical performance is not that impressive IMHO.

I own a dal 55-300. It's an amazing lens, takes snappy images and holds its own ground against the 5x more expensive da* 50-135, which I also own.

I own a DAL 55-300. I am very satisfied with the pictures taken with it. Even now I also own a DA* 50-135, which is a lot sharper, I still consider the 55-300 a very good lens. It is lighter, offers more range and produce good enough photos in most cases. Don't have any experience with the 70-300, so no comparison here.

Haha, didn't see this one. But it appears to be an unethical picture to take. Yelling would be more appropriate than shooting ;)

I am glad you like the place:) PKU is known for having a beautiful campus. It used to be part of the Imperial Garden for Qing dynasty. I have an album that has a few more photos. I will add more later on when I shoot more pictures.

This indeed is a very innovative lens...but 800g is too heavy for my taste.

It looks like a very nice camera. I've been using Pentax DLSRs for over a year and often wished that I had a pocket camera with similar optical performance. This looks very much like a perfect fit. Now the question is will the wife say yes or no ;)

I own a K-5 and a K-r. I also tried a K-30 in a store recently. To me the K-5 is a lot better in terms of looks and feels. But I believe K-r or K-30 suffice for most people's real need. If you really want to get a FF eventualy, I'd get a K-30 for now. I don't recommend the K-5II because a new flagship with significant upgrade is probably coming soon. K-5 is also a good choice because it is a very solid camera at a rock bottom price.

It appears the rocks in the foreground are over-exposed. The leafs on the left are also distracting. I would clip the image and retain the upper right portion.

Thanks for the suggestions. The shot was made hand held and there was a breeze at the moment, which might caused the sharpness to decrease a little bit.

Just bought my first macro lens, the DFA 100mm WR, and this is one of the shots I took a few days ago in Beijing Botanical Garden. I am pretty satisfied with this photo, but I am sure from an expert's eyes, there must be a lot to be improved. So please fire away;)

Strange K-5 mis-focusing problems --- please help

I tried focusing on real targets too and the front and back focusing is pretty severe. Meanwhile my K-r showed no focusing problem with the same real targets, focus chart and lenses. So I am not sure it is the focusing distance that is causing the problem.

I asked the repair guy and he did the horizontal shot with the camera upside down. The picture still shows similar front-focusing. So I guess we can rule out the possibility that focus spot has shifted from the center.

I am running out of guesses. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the focusing problem is not really related with the orientation of the camera relative to the ground. I remember did some testing on targets on a wall while hold the camera horizontally. I observed back-focusing instead of front-focusing during the table chart tests with horizontal orientation. This led me to think that maybe Tanzer is right in guessing that the problem is caused by focusing point shifted off the center. If that is the case then I would observe back or front focusing depending on where the real focusing point lies inside the scence.

And even this is just a wild guess, because I don't seem to have problem locking focus with anything I point the center focus point to. If it is shifted, I would guess that I will have problem locking focus for certain scences.
