Here is first batch of my Pentax equipment for sale.

I am first owner of all, except DA 35mm. All items are in good or very good condition, some as new. All optics are scratchless and technically all are functioning as intended. All lenses are "good copies".

All items include boxes, papers etc.

Pentax K-5 body, (rmk. box is kit, but here is only body). Good. ~6000 shots. Bought 11/2011 from Finnish dealer. 480 € SOLD

Pentax D-BG4 Battery Grip, Good, some tear. 170€ (will be sold separately after the body) SOLD

SMC Pentax DA* 16-50mm f:2.8 ED AL (IF) SDM, Very good. 580€ SOLD

SMC Pentax DA* 60-250mm f:4 ED (IF) SDM. Very good. 850 € SOLD

SMC Pentax DA 35mm f:2.4 AL. Mint. 100€ SOLD

SMC Pentax FA 28-70mm f:4 AL 60€ SOLD (bought from local dealer couple years ago as new, had been forgotten to the shelf, good copy)

Pentax O-ME53. Free gift to the buyer of body. 0€. SOLD

Pentax O-GPS1 GPS. Mint. 190 € SOLD

Dont hesitate make an offer. Prices are negotiable but as far as I understand they are more or less in right levell.

Each shipping to the Europe is 17€, so buying several items is preferred and prices are also more negotiable if you are interested in several items :)
Shipping outside Europe will vary from 17 € to 25 €. Please tell me your location and I ask from Finnish Post.
Paypal can be used, but direct bank transfer is preferred, especially in Europe.

Please read carefully before start flaming. I said "all" benefits. If you blurr your pictures by handholding, you cannot get all benefits. And then further differencies between D800 and D800E are academic.

Secont part tells you how (in what circumstances) you can see some difference between D800 and D800E. And you cannot see these differencies, if you have spoiled your possibilities in first part. Easy and simple.

Bossa: You too should read texts more thoroughly. Yes, K-5 is easily hand holdable and so is D800 too. BUT, if you want sharpest possible result (and if this is not your goal, why spend 2400 instead of 1000?) you have to meet those requirements (use tripod, good lenses etc.). This is true with K-5 too: Best (sharpest) results are achieved with tripod, good lens etc., not holding it in your hands. This does not deny it, that you can get acceptable result holding it in your hands. But not best.

Actually, all D800 / D800E benefits can be get only if:
- you use tripod, good one
- you use mirror up function
- you use wired trigger, or similar, to avoid button push shake
- you use only the best lenses available, sharpness and contrast
- Focusing is done right, many times this requires service made calibration using actual lens set or live-view MF

and most important, D800E is better than D800 only if:
- you do not shoot wide open or close aperture too much, but use lens sweet spot, that is aperture closed to f:4 - f.5.6 range. This is the condition I seldom meet.

If you do not meet those conditions, paying more to get D800E is waste of money, . Here D800E is 700 more than D800, so I decided not to buy it.

Sorry

Pentax is very very good in what it has been doing, making APS-C lenses and bodies. Unfortunately that is not currently enough for me.

APS-C vs. FF in sceneries is not an fair game. 36 gb full frame is so much more better.

Pentax user interface is many ways better than Nikon. IMHO. For example it is annoying having to change grip when looking at the picture you just took. Zoom buttons are in the left side of the back side of the body and you have to use left hand pushing them instead having hands in shooting position all the time, as in the Pentax. Pentax P-mode is way better than Nikon one etc.

Ok, coins counted.... and brand new D800 + AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm 1:4 G ED VR + Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 VC has been bought from local shop. This saturday will add an SB-910 flash and RT-1 tripod collar.

Next step is decide what to do with Pentax gear... some will stay, some will go... or then all must go, hard decisions :D

So, conclusion is just as I thought it to be: we will not have Pentax FF within an year in shop shelf's. We maybe have some kind of mock-up next big photo fair, what ever it is, and actual release ~next spring, and maybe some of us have been able to buy one ~summer 2014. And that obviously is the best case scenario.... ;-)

Well, I continue counting my coins, and when there is plenty of them, go to local Nikon dealer. I am not coming any younger and waiting for years after years is no option for me anymore, sorry.

We have had tons of FF rumours last years and all of them have been vain.

I want FF (dont start again arguing why, I have my own reasoning. Period.)

Can anyone give me an good reason not jump to Nikon? it seems that we will not have FF Pentax at near future?

Despite 15 Pentax FF lens I have, I will bite the bullet and buy Nikon D800 very soon and start selling all Pentax stuff.

It is obvious that my K-5 needs different, obviously 0.2, shim than the original one with Katzeye focusing screen.

Problem is where to find it. Local dealers importing Pentax cannot help and those email adresses I found here doenst answer me at all.

Does anybody know a dealer selling them?

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Screen has arrived. First impressions without real use in the forest:
- bigger than expected, especially with battery
- "cheap" feeling, plastic quality mostly, but that was expected because of the cheap price
- Picture quality ok after contrast, brigthness and saturation was set much lower level than factory settings were

Because of the size of this combination, it would have been a good idea to check the 5" version first....

I bought an 70 cm HDMi cable and wrapped it together with an remote control. In the picture is the creen and the remote control and the combined cable.

Let see how this handles in real work..... :)

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Since I do not shoot movies but stills, this heating is not an big issue. I will use this "live view external set up" only short periods, max five to ten minutes or so.

According my tests, camera power consumption was lower when using external view. My K-5 drains its batteries quite quicly when using live view and shooting. This didnt happen when I tested this set up using my desktop screen. Battery gauge showed full battery all the test period. With internal screen, it normally drops very quickly.

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Hello all

I am not sure if we are aware that we can use external LCD screen for shooting with K-5.

Manual doesn't discuss anything about this, the only closely related chapter speaks only about connecting K-5 to AV-system.

But it is possible to connect an HDMI screen to K-5 and see the very same information you can see from back LCD screen.

I tested this with HDMI cable having mini-HDMI coupling for camera and normal HDMI coupling for monitor, and by pressing the LV button all the back LCD information appeared to the big LCD screen.

After verifying this functionality I ordered a mini 7" LCd screen from

LILLIPUT 619AH Small 7'' HD Monitor, LILLIPUT 619AH On-Camera HD Monitor : COOLLCD.com

Courier company official called me yesterday that this LCD will arrive within few days. Lets see if this gadget helps me in the problems of taking very low level pictures.

Do you know what you are looking when you have RAW file in screen?

You are looking at an small camera preprosessed jpeg which has been put in to the RAW file in the camera.

It is not the actual RAW file but an shadow of the content of it what you have on screen. Only after the conversion you have the "real" picture. Also if you open the RAW file in converter you can see the actual picture. All browsers shows only the small jpeg embedded into a RAW file.

If you judge picture quality using that tiny jpeg.... you can make severe mistakes.
