moving to a new laptop

Not in years. I prefer the hassle of reinstalling. It’s cleaner and I don’t want to bring any of my old problems over to the new system. Also it is a good time to evaluate what I am using and get rid of what I don’t need or want any more. I also use external drives for my data.

Programs are going to have to be reinstalled. No getting around that. Regarding the data restoring or exporting / importing will depend on the programs involved. Sorry but there is no painless method unless you just start over getting rid of all the old programs and data. And in my opinion that option is as painful as it gets.

There are several things that could of happened to your lens. There is a very good chance that your lens worked when it left the factory. It could of been damaged during shipping or when stocked at the retailer you purchased it from. So before bashing a brand new product I would suggest doing what any reasonable person would do. Return it for replacement. If they give you a problem doing that. Then you have a reason to start bashing them.

IMO there is no beating original Pentax. But I have to say that the Wasbi’s that I use are very good. I can purchase 4 Wasabi’s for less than the cost of a single Pentax. I have also used them for over 3 years with no issues.

You stated you were looking for an 85mm prime. Might I suggest you take a look at the DA* 50-135. The optics on this lens are fantastic and it can be purchased used for around $500. A lot of people use it for portraits and weddings.

Weather resistance of wr ff/fa lenses on the k-1

My piece of advice is. If you can't afford to replace it. Then treat it good. I laugh when someone says I took it out in a downpour and now it doesn't work. I look at WR as a piece of insurance. If I'm out photographing and something weather wise occurs. I know that I don't need to panic but I need to take precautions. Minor exposure is not going to cause issues. But using the camera in extreme conditions using a zoom or lenses that focuses externally is asking for trouble as they can suck in moisture or dust and cause damage to your camera or lens.

I'm one of those people credit card companies hate. I pay in full at the end of the month. If I can't pay in full or get a zero percent interest deal then i don't buy.

That is a very cheap price for the Sigma. I would be careful as to why the price is so cheap.

I would say go wider. The 35 2.4 is nice but it is not as versatile as a zoom. The 16-85 would be nice but it is a bit pricey at around $400 used. You can get a 18-135 for around $200 used. The 18-135 would be your best bet IMHO.

Lens advice

You didn't provide any sample or the settings that you are using. So I am going to guess that the blur is from slow shutter speed. I would suggest that you shoot TAV mode with a high enough shutter speed to stop the motion blur. Also allow your auto ISO to go to at least 6400. Hopefully it won't need to go that high but it is easy to deal with noise in post processing.
