I had one in K-mount under the name Tamron Popular for a while. Not bad, but had no use for it and sold it.

Sigma 50-500 non OS compared to Pentax 150-450 on K-1

Is it really fair to compare a 3x zoom against a 10x zoom? The big thing that is surprising is that the (both non OS and OS version) Sigma is that good.

Seb, who does not own either

I might suggest the M100/4 as well, more common and decently affordable too. I have used it on my bellows sometimes.

Lens Suggestion - 42nd Street Photo; Sub-$600 or So

Nothing against the 17-50, but as Rogerstg mentioned, you seemed to have that range covered.

A prime like the DA50/1.8 is still faster (and lighter) than a zoom, which of course is more versatile.
My pick would be a prime (obviously for me the fast 20/1.8 since i have the 70), but many would pick the 10-20.

There is no wrong pick among the 4 choices.

Seeing your current setup, I'd skip the 17-50 for now.

And yet another question: Are you a prime shooter or a zoom shooter?
The 70 is really sharp and could be used for portraits too.

Lens advice Safari Botswana, Namibia, South Africa. What range is most useful?

Two bodies. One for tele, one for your 20-40. The DA60-250 is to tight for elephants and giraffes.
I was in Kenya on safari years ago, learned from my mistakes. Buy a used 2nd body, even a Kx is better than nothing.

DFA* 50/1.4 compared to 8 other Pentax 50/1.4 lenses

At first look, the Taks from the 60's are really good in comparison, the main difference is bokeh.

The difference between the DFA50 and the FA50 is even less than expected, perhaps the DFA is a bit contrastier (is that a word) ?

Could someone translate the conclusions please?

Buying second hand - hints and tips?

In general it is safe to buy used. My only problem with used items is a lens with a filter permanently stuck. I did not notice it until 6 months later whem trying to remove it...

1. Go for cheap MF prime lenses if you want to be safe. Electronic problems are increasing with age (dirt, oxidation and wear). All my F-series lenses bought used did work however.
2. Do not buy rare lenses if you plan to actually use them. They are overpriced.
3. Lenses are generally not a good investment.
4. 3rd partly lenses are (in general) less desired than Pentax lenses and hence more affordable.

Looking for a second 35mm for street

I find the 35mm a bit narrow for street photo on crop. How about the 21mm limited? It should fit your budget used.
Zooms are found cheap, but I assume (as they would be obvious) they were out of the question?

Your favorite 35mm APS-C format prime lens

I was about to suggest any F-series zoom starting from 35mm...

I had the A24 but traded it for the DA21HD. Both are excellent choices. My most used is the Sigma 24-60/2.8 for the wanted FoV in question so I guess that is my favourite then.

My experience with smc M85mm F2

I have to agree here, the M85 is a terrific lens but has a long learning curve. It's not the lens I would pick in a hurry for a moving object. But when you get it right it's a gem.
To OP: Keep shooting and you will know why eventually.

PS: A hood might have helped, but eventually you could have a faulty lens

Another vote for this lens if you are on a tight budget. It's heavy (any f2.8 is heavier) but has fast AF.

Accurate AF Lenses?

There was a test in a German magazine (Colorfoto maybe, last year perhaps?) where they tested AF on many camera brands and lenses.
Oddly enough, Pentax was among the top performers. There were differences between lenses.

When I encounter AF problems it's either a) really dark b) due to my many mistakes. I can't honestly blame the camera or the lens.

Choices: Pentax 24-90mm (f/3.5-5.6) vs Sigma 24-60mm (f/2.8)

I have the Sigma, it is attached to the Kx that my wife uses for video (with the rather indoors useful zoom range of 24-60mm).
It's bulky and has a slightly bluish tint but AF is decent. I paid at least twice of your bargain price andI feel I made a good deal still.

Macros are sharper but my FA43 is simply SHARP ENOUGH. And gives reliable results, not too many shots goes directly into trash bin.

Pentax 100 vs Sigma 70 Macro

I have the EX 70 macro and the M100/4 macro. The only downside with the Sigma is the bulky size (like all the other Sigmas I own).
The build of the Sigmas have now and then been questioned. I have been lucky so far, all my Sigmas were bought used.

The vertical lines suggests a cleaning attempt, unless it is poorly made re-cementing.
Oil from blades and/or moisture could be another guess on the upper left side.
The test pics are surprisingly good.

I'm a prime person but I'd take the 18-250 (wes you want to go wide). Then pick a prime of your preferred focal length.

Is it just me, but I find fast lenses tricky in the beginning.
A consumer zoom (like the kit lens or the F35-70) is easy, just point and shoot...
The M85/2 was especially difficult.

Now my troubles seem to be more camera setting related...
