The only updates the Q needs is a newer sensor and a decent rear screen - perhaps the one from the K3.

The screen on my Q7 has such poor resolution that it's almost impossible to manually focus, rendering the K-Q adapter almost worthless.

If the Q was ever resurrected, all that would be needed to make it a great compact enthusiasts camera system would be an updated 24-70 (equivalent) constant f2.8 lens, and perhaps a macro lens.

Here are some pics of different grades of hoya uv filters showing the reduction in reflection between single coated, multi coated, and Super multi coated:

Multi coated Hoya 'DMC' (Digital Multi-Coated) vs single coated Hoya

Super Multi-Coated 'Super HMC' vs 'DMC'

Note that 'Pro-1' filters are just thinner - the glass is either 'MC', 'DMC' (just a change for the sake of marketing), or Super HMC (7 layer, 2 sided coating).

Yes, the AT-X Pro II is the one I have. As I said I also have the FA*28-70 and the Tokina is so good I am considering whether to sell my FA*.

That's a shame it doesn't work in AF.
Here is some info about the Tokina AT-X zooms you may find interesting:

Which Tokina do you have?
If it's the AT-X Pro 28-70mm, that is an excellent lens. I have this lens and the FA* 28-70/2.8, and they are very similar in IQ.
The Tokina has a push-pull focus ring with a clutch to change from AF to manual focus - maybe that's why it won't autofocus?

I get the exact same thing with photos
I transfer wirelessly from my K3 to my phone. The thumbnail views in the 'gallery' have colours missing or incorrect but when viewing a photo individually it's all as normal.

DMC (Digital Multi Coating) is, from what I can tell, the same as their previous 'HMC' (Hoya Multi Coating) -ie. their budget filter. (The name just changed for marketing reasons). The Super HMC is visibly better with reflections when you have them side by side.

Pro-1 just refers to a thinner filter. You can get pro-1 versions of their HMC, DMC and Super HMC filters.

While a hood does provide a good deal of protection to a lens, over the long term a quality filter will keep the front element of your lens pristine.

I have taken camera gear hiking, in jungles, mountains, the beach, motor sport events, etc., and in my experience, no matter how careful you are, whether you use a lens hood or not, humidity, dirt, grime, windblown sand, will get on your equipment - and your lens's front element will need cleaning when you get home or back to your hotel.
Many times my filter has had salt spray, dust, sand, or even mud on it. Once my camera and lens even got splashed by the equivalent of a bucket of water. But underneath, my len's front element has always remained clean.

People who do not use a filter have no option but to regularly clean their front element like they might a pair of glasses - and this is where long-term this becomes a problem . I have seen many lenses with 'rub' marks in the coating of of a lens' front element - caused by regular and well meaning cleaning - not to mention scratches and scuffs caused by minor impacts.

I once was photographing an ostrich with a wide angle lens when suddenly it pecked at my lens. Upon inspection the filter had a mark on it that subsequent cleaning could not remove. Had I not had a filter, that mark would have been permanently on my lens's front element. Instead I just bought a new filter and when I sold that lens years later its glass was still perfect.

It's just lucky that so many previous owners of vintage lenses had the habit of keeping a protective filter on their lens at all times, otherwise I wouldn't have such a great collection of 1960s, 70s and 80s Pentax and Takumar lenses! ;)

I agree with what some others has said above, and that is don't put a $10 filter on a $1000 lens. I recommend paying the extra money on something like a Hoya (HMC) Super Multi Coated UV or Skylight filter. This was and still is Hoya's best coating (12 layers - 6 layers on each side of the filter). This coating is pretty much on a par with Pentax's SMC coatings.
When you place a budget filter next to the Hoya HMC one, the difference in reflections is plain to see.

I have an ESII and I just obtained a super takumar 50mm f1.4, 8 element.
I also read the warning in the ESII manual and I wish that it explained what the problem actually is.
The lens fits on the camera and seems to work correctly (apart from not allowing full aperture metering due to lacking the aperture simulator of the later smc-takumars) but I haven't dared to fire the shutter in case the problem is that the protruding rear element will foul the mirror.
Can anyone shed a light on this mysterious warning?

I'm doing a clean out and found this user manual for a Tamron SP AF 90mm F2.8 (Model 72E). I had the Pentax version (and forgot to pass on this manual when I sold it) but it also covers Canon, Minolta, and Nikon versions.
I'm in Perth, Western Australia and happy to post anywhere in Australia for free. I'll also post it worldwide if the 'buyer' pays the postage.

I may have found the problem causing my unsharp images; it may be because I had the high iso noise reduction set to auto.
In this youtube video the guy explains that people have complained about K3 shots at 1600 iso and higher randomly not being sharp.
He explains from 4:25 in the video below:

There was a gap between the photos while I changed the aperture so I doubt it is an SR issue. Besides, I had the issue with many photos; those two skeleton photos I took to confirm my suspicion that there was a problem wide open images.
