Thanks. I ordered Thursday night, got my shipping notification earlier today. I'm guessing Purolator tracking may not be active until it reaches the border.

Anyone who ordered Thursday for international shipment get a shipment notice yet? Mine is still pending/ "Being prepared for shipping".
Picked one up to replace my K7. With our first child on the way, wanted a low light and AF upgrade :)

It is a negligible upgrade.. Low light auto focus is better.

Poll: Screw drive firmware for SDM lenses

My DA*50-135mm is out of warranty as well.. Currently SDM is still functional but its probably on its last legs. When I turn it on it seems to take about a minute of trying to focus for the first time, then about 15 seconds for the next image, 5 for the next, eventually its quick (well quick for Pentax SDM anyways) like when it was new. Stop using it for 10 minutes and I'll be back to taking a minute to focus...

I would love to be able to use it without the SDM since on the K7 the body focusing lenses gained speed that SDM seems to not have.

Annoyed With K7 Price

There really is no WR Pentax prime in the 35mm range, nor any Pentax branded ~35mm prime in the price range of the 35mm f1.8 Nikon prime lens. Actually I don't think there is a Sigma or Tamron in that price range either. Cheap autofocus primes actually seems to be a market Pentax no longer serves.

Don't just base it on the camera, base it on the overall system you are buying into and what future purchases from either brand will cost and the support available for both (Nikon vs Pentax). K-7 pricing hasn't moved down much here in Canada either but luckily the proxmity to the US and lack of duty makes it relatively easy to import or purchase from Prodigital. Atleast its cheaper than the 2 year old D300 which has kept its value incredibly well.

Prodigital should accept a BIN price of ~$1150 USD, which with free shipping within Canada would amount to about the same price as importing from the US if not cheaper, along with getting a Canadian warranty.

:-( In those comparison shots the K-7 crop shot does look like a step back from the K20D. I'm looking at the noise on the lens.

K-7 cheaper at brick and mortar stores?

I think thecamerastore.com had it for $1499 last time I checked and may only charge one tax for customers outside of Alberta. Will be interesting to see what Prodigital lists it at eventually. Most of their lens prices have adjusted back down quite a bit, close to pre-Pentax Canada hikes a few months back.

Is there any planned 28-75mm (+/-) f/2.8 lens from Pentax ?

I never thought my DA*50-135mm focused any faster than my Tamron 28-75mm, even before the SDM motor started to act erratically.

14 months old (bought it used) and mine is starting to act up. First time it after turning it on takes about 15 seconds to wake up and eventually focus. After that it works ok. Leave it idle for 10 minutes and it needs the long focus time again.

Current new 77mm ltd or 85mm 1.4 street price?

You're probably right, due to a limited Pentax market they feel they won't sell enough of both the DA*50-135mm and the FA*80-200mm if they were both in production to make them profitable lenses. Likewise the 77mm ltd and 85mm f1.4.

I wonder why they discontinued lenses like this and the FA*80-200 . Couldn't they have just changed the colour, tweaked the coating and kept selling them.

With Pentax falling far behind Sony with no momentum in sight, we're often going to be on the outside looking in for 3rd party lens support for the forseeable future.
