Happy to hear you got it worked out! And you're welcome for the TFC.

With all you went through, I'm glad I still rely on Epson scanners. ;)

You're welcome. Just hit the start button and let it run. No settings to change or anything too complicated. I gained 120GB of my 240GB SSD drive back after running it the first time.

Do you have a temporary file cleaner? I have one that works great, I use it to get rid of files in the temp folders, like when I install a software it leaves bits and pieces behind after the install that is not needed. It has a very small foot print and will clean things out without messing up your computer. My tech friends use it too.

I use TFC by Oldtimer:

FA 100-300 vs Pentax 55-300 PLM

I have the black version of the FA 100-300mm and can tell from experience it hunts under AF. I never had that problem with the only 55-300mm I once owned, and it wasn't even the PLM version.

I have one question. Was the scanner already connected when you installed the driver? The reason I ask is that some scanners want you to install the driver before connecting the device to your computer.

I had a DA 55-300mm once, it had back focus issues, and I believe it had other problems as well. I returned it. I've seen the WR version in the marketplace lately but I'm not sure I'll buy one again after the first one had problems. My 70-300mm Sigma is f stop at 4-5.6 and the 55-300mm is f stop at 4-5.8.

The main reason I like the manual focus primes is I can attach a TC with one and still be able to focus. With zoom lens, and a TC they tend to hunt too much, even with a 1.4x TC.

And yet.... ONE more post about aperture lock-up!

It's been said that letting the camera be idle for months at a time can cause the aperture block failure too.

I've got a K-30 that has over 33,000 shots on it quit working because of the aperture block failure and I use it with the AA adapter.

My two other cameras, the newer K-30 has 5,000+ shots and the K-50 has more than 7,000 shots and both are still working fine. But I don't let either sit idle for more than a few days.

I don't think I've ever seen that many Grackles. Here they tend to like the river park I frequent. Might be because people feed them.

I only have one more that I took yesterday.

How's the PF on those lenses?

I'm trying to go all primes. Even manual focus is fine with what I shoot. I've tried Catch in focus and found that with my Sigma 400mm M f5.6 lens, I can focus better than using CIF. This lenses isn't real heavy but it is heavy enough I can't shoot handheld. But it comes with a tripod mount so I'm okay with it that way. Most of my primes, the Vivitar 200mm f3.5, the Sigma mentioned above, and the one zoom lens I have, the FA 100-300mm f4.5-5.6 all have the PF problem in high contrast areas (birds against the sky) unless I shoot smaller aperture.,
