How often do you shoot in the rain?

I laughed when I saw this title. Probably half the time Iím out itís raining. Both my K-1 and K-P have seen routine rainy duty. In addition, they often get called out on the water for waterfowl shots, both in land and in the canoe, and spray is common.

Holster for KP/55-300PLM/Battery Grip?

Yeah the 55-300 collapsed is a pretty small lens, so pretty much anything will do. This isnít strictly a holster, but I really love carrying a smaller camera setup in it. Everyday Sling | Peak Design Official Site

As others have mentioned, it can be a issue, but honestly In temperate climates shooting routinely in the winter Iíve never had an issue in the decade or so Iíve been shooting regularly. If you live in a very humid climate, bringing the camera in and out of AC might be worse for it than winter time with dry air on both indoors and outdoors. If youíre very concerned, the suggestion other people have made of putting your gear into a humidity controlled box when not in use can be wise as well.

Why not Sigma L-Mount

Honestly, having just done a big photo week with my mom (who shoots a Z7), I wasnít really impressed with the system. I love mirrorless cameras for their strengths, but the ergos and features of the camera just werenít there to me for the price. As far as Pentax mirrorless, I wouldnít hate if Pentax made a mirrorless camera, but I donít really think Iíd want it to be anything other than K mount, and I donít think itíd probably sell that well. Otherwise, my mirrorless line will start and end with Fuji for now until I can swing another Leica M.

That and forearms! My tele macro is actually heavier than my super tele lenses, and doing forearm training has helped a lot with getting steady shots at slower shutter speeds with that baby.

More like 120 per year, so 1200 per decade. Assuming I bought the software once now and updated it one other time during the decade (reasonable assumption for my use, I donít need ďthe latest techĒ to do photo management and raw development, and that it cost 300 each time to buy (accurate for capture one pro), Iím still 600 ahead doing it that way versus paying for a subscription. There are lots of reasons why people prefer to own a license of the software outright versus constantly paying a monthly fee.

My GR II bit the dust and I LOVED that lens

The GRIII largely resolved that issue with the ultrasonic sensor cleaning (the dust on sensor not premature death). 28mm seems to be an under-supported focal length in APS-C Pentax. Full frame the options are endless, otherwise there may have been a Zeiss PK at or around the 16-18mm mark?

Finding homeless people is difficult, no doubts there. That said, the Craigslist is a solid option, probably the best if he gets periodic internet access, and itís always worth calling the PD to see if they know the guy, they might know where he frequents etc.

Desert Island Lens?

My Pentax combo would probably be the K-1 and D-FA 100mm macro (or KP and 35mm macro). Thatís my most used combo so I wouldnít feel like Iím missing anything. That said, my actual desert island/had to sell all other cameras setup would be my Fuji X100V, itís just a go anywhere do anything type camera/lens.

Does a DFA 150-450 fit in a Pelican 1510 or 1535 along the short axis with trekpack?

The thing with pelican cases is that how protective they are from drops is only a function of how much extra room they have... if you squeeze a lens into a pelican case and it only fits by the skin of its teeth, when you drop the case your lens is just going to hit the case wall hard, which is no better than just hitting the ground itself hard. All that to say that if itís as close as you say, you probably want to go up a size if you can. I usually try to have at least a full row (0.75 inches) of the pluck foam on each side of the lens uncompressed

The macro 100 and I think that model of 55-300 are screwdrive, the one you have thatís working is an SDM. Barring any other issues, itís entirely possible you have a failed AF motor in your body. Is it making any noise at all when trying to focus?

DA 70 Ltd stiff focus ring

Yeah that definitely sounds like impact damage or something similar. The limiteds are made in a very open and traditional style so dust can also get in there if it has ever been used in a severely dirty/dusty environment. Itís definitely worth fixing, since that extra resistance is going to wear the screwdrive in your body down faster.

Seems like everyone has mentioned the crop mode setting already, but thatís the secret to your question. The moon shot shows most clearly the issues using it on full frame sensors, but Iíll say that (for my use) as long as it isnít a clear background like that sky, I donít have an issue with the vignetting, and the optics are good enough that itís definitely worth it over some of the older TC models.

Comparison K3 III versus Sony A7 III

Thatís an interesting comparison and pretty high praise, considering the pixel pitch of K-3 as a high MP crop sensor is going to give a significant handicap going in for noise. That accelerator chip must be doing its magic.

Pentax DA* 300mm F/4 - Would focus be quicker if SDM de-activated?

Concur, thatís really my only issue. Not that itís too slow, just that without a limiter it has to move the glass a long way to get a shot. Iíve just learned to prefocus at ďinfinityĒ lock (actually past infinity, but you know). That forces it to start there and work back, which usually results in a practically instant lock.

I mean I have a feeling itís less malicious and more the website isnít really set up primarily as a point of sale, and that the budget/skill/desire of the people maintaining isnít there to improve that part. Itís frustrating, but doesnít come off as a marketing angle.

Iíve got the 300 (one I bought new this year), and the focus is fine to me, even for birding. Aside from occasionally hunting, I havenít noticed any issue with focus performance, even when birding.
