Plus, if you're using GPS log function than you can import that file to Google Earth or any other .kml reader and see where you were going, walking, hiking.... Something like oversized sports watch.

Pentax K3ii SD card slot problem

I had similar problem on my K-3II with slot 2. When it was brand new. Camera wouldn't operate when slot was empty. It was reporting a memory card error and couldn't be used. I took it to my official Pentax repair center and a guy working there was really detailed and after almost 10 minutes of poking and proding around the slot he found a small piece of plastic like paper. And by small I mean less than 1mm in size. Weird thing is that that debris looked like some sort of leftover from production or something. Hope this helps.

it happened to me once, or twice. But I remember it the first time. It was when camera was 2 months in use (first firmware installed). I had sigma 17-50 mounted. Original full charge battery. And it lasted exactly how you described it. I just ignored it and continued on with the session. I do not know what to think of it.

No, but I found it. I had the camera set to LO burst shooting. So I guess that to speed up the camera the instant review is downsampled.

I have a weird problem with my Q-s1. I bought it used as a presentation and test model at my pentax dealer. But it was near mint. I had no problem until last two weeks. When I take a photo, instant review is absolutely blurred as if focus was set to macro or something. But when reviewing that image later on camera or on computer everything is ok. It is no big deal but it is annoying.

New lens - FA 43mm or DA* 55mm

I had the same dilemma. Bought a 55 after many sleepless nights. Reason, newer lens design, WR, aps-c and ff compatible and sharp from wide open. But even though it has much more modern image rendering, it is specific enough for my taste.

How Hot is Super-Takumar 35mm F2 (late, 49mm version): Tested

so did I, but I was reffering to the technology of using thorium oxide lenses in general. At the time it was the best possible optical solution to the problem, but now, we have fluoride glass. Not causing any kind of yellowing over time, better optical characteristics, and no radioactivity exposure and health risks to those who handle it in production, and probably many more other, maybe financial benefits.

Gammas are the main concern as they do penetrate a lot farther than alphas or betas, yes. But these gammas generated are relatively low in energy. While geiger counter does "scream" (there are may videos on youtube that measured what would a lay person say a lot) it is indeed low energy gamma and low in count, so even when you get some low dose of radiation from that lens, it is highly localized. I think that the biggest side effect from this radioactive element is not endangering your health while using it, but yellowing of the glue that was used to make that rear element and combination of radioactivity.

This is a fail in start because this meter detects gamma and x-ray only. no beta or alpha. And thorium is almost exclusively alpha emmiter with a half-life of some 14 billion years. Gamma and x-ray that you have detected came from radon which then decayed to something else that emits these weak gammas.

While super takumars are hot, they are not hot enough. Thorium oxide posed a greater threat to people who worked with it in plants but to us "end consumers" it poses no threat since it is in glass, but even if you shatter it, nothing much would happen. You might get some problems if you put that rear element 1cm from your eye and keep it like that 24/7 for a year, without blinking. I talked to a guy that works in nuclear research lab in my country and his explanation was very simple. Think of that rear element as weak earbuds playing some music. When you are 1meter from them, you hardly hear them, but you hear them when you put them in your ears, and even then they are not so loud.
I was very paranoid about that radiation when i bought my 50mm 1.4, but I learned that it is nothing special. There are far more common situations in life that could pose a greater radiation threat than thoriated lens.

Which prime should I buy

That is true, but i'm not a big fan of near telephoto lenses like 77 in APS-C. I can see myself using 31 but 77, I would have to see. Maybe on FF 77 would be perfect for me, I don't know. Time will tell.

Which prime should I buy

I think that I won't be getting DA40 f2.8 since I practically allready have it in my Sigma 17-50 f2.8. DA40 is light and small I understand that, but I want a shallower DOF which this lens simply doesn't have in comparison to other lenses that I am considering. I don't see the weight as a problem in any of Pentax lenses, it is only problem with Sigma 35 1.4

When looking at the samples of FA 35 f2.0 it is too soft for my taste even when stopped down, and that lens is not cheap. I think that I would be better off with FA50 f1.4 at 40% lower price even though it is not as wide.

So now I think about getting the FA50 f1.4, it is the cheapest of the three (FA 35, FA 43). I also looked at DA* 55 f1.4 and it is indeed great but a bit expensive for a lens that has Pentax SDM and could fail.

I have to sleep on any decisions. And also, thank you all on your suggestions, wonderful community on this forum :)

Which prime should I buy

I am trying to find a fast autofocus prime for my K-3II and in a few months possibly K-1.

Prime would be used for wedding photography (candid photojournalist style), so my main concern is weight and AF quality. I don't wan't to go into debate about Pentax AF system, it has its flies and in most cases I manage to get by without much problems (but sometimes I could just shove the camera into the ground and set fire to my house and go live in the woods).

But the main question I have is, do I buy Sigma 35mm 1.4 or FA43 1.9.

In the one hand Sigma is like a tank, 600grams I think, faster and has much more 'modern' image rendering, which I don't know if I'll like. It is sterile. I allready own Sigma 17-50 2.8 and while I really love the lens, I miss that it has no specific character like some other lenses I used like super takumar 50 1.4, smc Pentax-A 50 1.7 (both no AF) or even DA35 2.4

On the other hand FA43 is a bit slower (and 43mm vs 35mm) which I would prefer for future FF use. But the weight and size is non comparable to Sigma.
I also think that FA43 should focus better (and faster- less glass less weight) than Sigma since it is original Pentax lens rather than reverse engineered Sigma AF for Pentax. Image rendering is more 'natural', or should I say characteristic than that of Sigma, It is far from sterile, but still very sharp when stopped down, and as a plus it has that bloomy look when wide open.

Is there a third option that is in the same price range and focal lenght? FA31 is I think too wide and practically double the price so I would like to exclude it for now.

Can somebody show me images taken with 50-135 on K-1? And does it work well? Well enough for weddings in regards to AF. I plan on buying K-1 in near future.

I allready own K-3II so I would like to be able to use the lens on both bodies for starters.

I bought mine from this seller, card was not in retail packaging, but in a nylon bag with manual and other papers, probably just separated cards from combo packages that were sold with K-3.

I live in Europe so I don't know if this is possible to order in U.S. And if it would be affordable to you.

that does work, but it asks what app to use so I can't do much. But when using flucard download app, I am able to save dng files to photos app directly and open them in LR, so for now I will be using that method. Its a stupid iOS "limitation" after all.

Well that's stupid. 😂 Or Am I who is stupid? I tried pef, dng and tiff. I can view and download jpegs only. How does one download a raw on android or on a laptop? Did anyone here try this by using iOS? And yes, I plan on using LR mobile in the future.

Edit: I downloaded official trek2000 app, probably for regular flucards and now I can download dng's. But not pef or tiff. App is called flucard download. I tried also with pixel shif and it works. And lr mobile does read botg regular and shifted images

No, I used my head lamp :) . first two attempts were bad because of the foggy/humid air, so for this shot I moved more to the right and illuminated the trees from an angle and avoiding hazed result.

I made this image from two. Astrotracer for stars, and non astrotracer for tents and trees. You can see botched and reconstructed edges of trees where it meets the sky. Made it in about 20minutes because I didn't have time for better post processing (this is also my first attempt at merging tracked and non tracked images).

But none the less it was a beautiful 1 night trip and sleep on the banks of river Mrežnica in Croatia. Orange sky is not a sunset, it's a nearby city of Karlovac, light pollution was enhanced by very humid air that night (it rained heavily for 2-3 days before that night)

I ordered a flucard for my k-3II just for the fun of it, I don't know if I will be using it often.

Since flucard was originally developed for K-3,
Does anyone know if you can use pixel shift in remote capture?
Also, can you use astrotracer, or bulb mode?

I can use my YN560 III quite normally on k-3II just have to make sure that I apply a bit force when mounting the flash on camera. But when using 560tx remote trigger there is much more clearance and it mounts without any problem.
