K3 Crazy Mirror Sickness (Mirror Flapping Lockup) - Report Yours Here!

The firmware on my copy is 1.20; I stated it wrongly. Fact remains that it is my third not-funtioning copy of the K3! The copy I had before this one, also had the mirror flap up issue; this one again also has. And than I am also confused, since I got this copy back from repairs not even three months ago! So if this problem was already resolved, why then sent me a copy which still has these problem back from the service department....
Fact is that I will return the camera again to Pentax today... Hopefully, the fourth copy will not exhibit this problem...
No reason to trust Pentax in this matter though; again, why sent me a copy back from repairs which still exhibits this problem not even three months ago!?

I also encounter problems with my K3 with the mirror flap up. I am using Firmware 2.0. This is my third (!!!!!!) copy of the K3 so far and this copy is also not working correctly!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sick and tired of this! The k3 simply is not a reliable camera, although expensive enough! I never have problems with my K5, but the K3 basically s....! And Pentax/Ricoh is not doing enough to solve this issue, so I have lost faith in the brand! They seem to think: "lets move on to the next models and forget all about teh K3". Well, that is not enough for me I must say! I paid a handsome amount of money for this camera and it should wok and forfill it's promises!

Pentax KE mount?

Thanks for all this important info!! I really had no clue as to what I should or could do with this lens and never heard of T-mount adapters and such. But since I got this lens for free it felt like a good thing to spent at least some time and effort as to what this lens is al about.
I've learnt a lot more and will ask my local dealer if he can get a hold of a T-mount adapter; if not, I can order one at B&H.
Thanks again, regards, Arnoud

Pentax KE mount?

I've been fiddling around with the lens to see what fits where.
The first part does screw of I found out; than you have a screwmount which does not seem to fit on my m42 to k mount adapter however. The thread does not correspond with the thread on the adapter; it makes a stroke or so when you try to screw it on and than it stops.
It seems like this must be the "T" adapter mentioned.
I can't use on my Penatax cameras than so it seems, but, true, I can start to collect other M42 screwmount lenses to attach to the M42 to K mount adapter I now own. A pity I can't use the adapter to attach this specific lens to my pentax cameras, but I will start looking for other Pentax M42 lenses on the internet!

Thanks, regards, Arnoud

Pentax KE mount?

hallo,

I've been given a nice 400mm f6,3 lens with Pentax mount, or so I thought at least.
I figured it would be one of those M42 screwmount lenses and purchased an adapter for that purpase. Unfortunately it seems to be another sort of Pentax mount from the not so recent past I'm afraid... It says "KE" somewhere on the lens mount; I included a picture of the lens mount with the original package of the lens with written on it "Pentax fitting". The diameter of the inner tube so to say of this mount is 3,3 centimeters with an inner thread.
Is there someone out there who knows what sort of mount this is and what I need, if possible at all, to attach this lens to my Pentax K-7/K-x?

Regards, Arnoud

weather sealing manual K or M series lenses

Thanks for all your info on this topic!
I've changed from ordering only the Pentax K-7 body to the kit version with the 18-55mm wr lens.
What I distract from all the replies to my question is that I should be careful, even with waterresistant gear. It was already my own idea that waterresistant gear is not the definite and only solution to protect my gear from the elements. Nevertheless I felt compelled to order the kit version as mentioned above after reading all the comments and I will also be very careful and, as someone put it, use my common sense when using my gear in nasty weather!

weather sealing manual K or M series lenses

Hallo, I've ordered a Pentax K-7 at my local dealer.
Just wondering however how the K- and/or M series lenses wood stand up to the elements. I own several M and K series lenses which I use with my Pentax K-x and I just haven't got the cash to spend on several weather sealed new Pantax lenses.
I'm used to be very careful in wet conditions with my pentax gear until now; however, in the Netherlands it rains often so I do miss too many good opportunities to take beautiful photo's in rainy conditions. I therefore ordered the Pentax K-7 but cannot afford to also buy a set of new lenses. I'm also wondering how professionals dealt with a professional Pentax camera in the past with non weather sealed Pentax lenses. It is my understanding at least that there are no weather sealed K-or M series lenses

Most of the lenses I posses/use on my digital K-x are of the M-series. Photo's taken with them do not specify the used aperture value in the Exif information. Is it in these cases permitted to upload a photo with only the available Exif information without the aperture value?

quality pallas lenses

Hai,

For now I have chosen for the Pentax macro 4/50mm, the Pallas 3,5/200mm and an Albinar 2,8/135mm. The Pallas 135mm was no longer available. I was able to make a deal with the vendor which made the prices for these 3 lenses more attractive.
I will certainly post one or more photo's made with the Pallas 200mm lens. Next week I should have the lenses home. Meanwhile I already have purchased the Takumar 2,8/28mm. Buying a Takumar lens is always a good idea so that was an easy decision!
And yes, the only way to know the other lenses available, is indeed to just try them out..

Regards; I 'll get back with photo's from the Pallas lens as soon as I have some photo's available! Arnoud

Thanks, Steve!
Very nice that there also is a category within this forum for "weard" lenses so to speak!
I can get the Pallas lenses cheap I think: 19 euro for each of them. (this is in Us dollars somewhat less) They are both brand new lenses. The 2,8 135mm definitely has the K mount; the other one I'll have to check.
I think I just try to make a deal: the same shop also has the original macro f4 50mm for sale.
This one is somewhat expensive (149 euro) but I might get a discount when buying the Pallas ones also. The fact that it is meaningful/important/possible to put foto's made with this two Pallas lenses on this part of the forum, makes it worthwhile to buy the lenses; if they do not satisfy, I can at least let people know how they (not) perform!
Than I have another question: any idea how the Luxon 4-5,6/28-200 with ka mount performs?
This lens is also for sale in the same shop. The ka mount might make this lens interesting! And than there's also the Soligor 4,5/80-200, new (39 euro); and the Panagor 3,5/75-205 (10 euro) Both with k mount. Is the Pentax Takumar 4,5/80-200 a better choice than the Soligor 4,5/80-200? The Soligor is brandnew and a bit cheaper, while the Pentax is used and a bit more expensive.
Quite a lot of questions I realise; itś difficult though when you are just starting out!

Regards, Arnoud

Hallo,

I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of "Pallas" lenses with K-mount.
There are two lenses of this brand I can get cheaply for use with my Pentax K-x. (digital).
A "Pallas auto mc 3,5/200mm" and a "Pallas 2,8/135mm".
I have searched everywhere I could think of on the internet, but Pallas as a brand of lenses is nowhere to be found. At least, I certainly can't find anything.
I would offcourse like to know beforehand if these lenses are of some decent quality.
So if there's anyone with information regarding this brand, let me know!

Thanks, Arnoud

marumi adapter Pentax k

Thanks for your answers!
I' ll have to search for another adapter then; it doesn't sound like a good idea to purchase this adapter!
Problem is that they are not easy to get since you have to pay through using a creditcard in a lot of online shops. And I do not own a creditcard, which in the Netherlands is considered normal.
I could only find this adapter in a online dutch shop, but will continue to look further.

marumi adapter Pentax k

Hallo,

I have the following question, concerning the Marumi adapter bayonet to screw (T2, 42 mm)
Can I use this adapter on my Pentax K-x (digital) to attach an old Pentax prime lens (135 mm f3,5) on this camera?
If so, are there any other disadvantages, besides offcourse the fact that this lens can only be used manually?
I'm already using several M series lenses from Pentax and that works fine; I have no problems with manual focusing and determining the correct shutter/aparture values. Therefore it should be nice to be also able to use screw-mounted lenses from Pentax on this camera.

Thanks, regards, Arnoud, The Netherlands
