Does this have a tripod mount of its own, or do you need a lens with one?

I’m sure I’m going to get beat up for this, but Pentax really is the wrong brand for this. Canon, Fuji, and Nikon have all released software to allow their cameras to function as webcams via USB, presumably due to the pandemic. Yes, you might be able to force your K-01 to work, but if nothing else, wouldn’t you want to use a camera where you won’t need to worry about the battery? Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the K-01 supports a practical manner of charging while running. And what if the sensor overheats?
I love my Pentax cameras as much as the next guy on this forum, but Swiss Army knives they are not.

But the K-S1 doesn't have a flip screen, and like most DSLRs it isn't designed for non-stop live view, which is why a mirrorless camera is better for this.

Lighter as in half the weight, and probably even lighter if paired with a matching lens. Probably a pretty thrifty setup too. I imagine a NEX 5 and a Meike 35mm f/1.7 would make a great, inexpensive combo for this when paired with a $5 wireless remote. That flip up screen and permanent live view would be a dream compared to something like a K5.

Drawing/painting videos, paper based stop animation, “how to take your phone apart” type videos. Of course if you do such things regularly this wouldn’t be ideal, but for occasional use it could work well enough.

It could be handy for certain video tasks.

I suspect this would work better with a mirrorless camera than a DSLR.

But the 285 is equal to or better than a 283 in every possible way, and the 285HV is trigger voltage safe.

If you were to peruse the “analog” subreddit, you would soon see the ridiculous sums of money people pay for those Olympus point & shoot models. People swear up and down that it’s the same lens that’s in an XA, but I am not convinced. I’ve seen one with a broken battery door and a film door that “likes to pop open so you should tape it shut when loaded” sell for over $100. Also those white and red Canons sell for anywhere between $50 and $100.
Anything film related and usably functional sells for absolutely stupid sums of money right now. We are at a point where expired film often sells for more than fresh rolls of the exact same film. It’s absolute madness.

If that place is still around, you might let them use your photo, for a modest fee of course!

To my *istD friends:
To make removing the CF card easier, make a little flap of packing tape, and stick it to the back of the card so it hangs over the end. When you go to remove the card, just push the release/pop out button, and then pull it by the flap you made. The only trick is in sizing the flap properly. You want it big enough to be useful, but small enough to still let the card door close. Also, make sure it doesn’t quite reach the edges of the card, or it might make the card tight in the slot. I speak from experience, this works wonders!

Here in the California portion of the Mojave desert, the weeds grow big this time of year. Every year, just as they blossom with these amazing tiny flowers, the city and my wife get on my case to mow them down. I'm not really much of a macro guy, but I have some extension tubes, and I wanted to share them with you. When I say tiny, the purple ones are somewhere around 1/4 inch across, and the yellow ones are smaller than that. Both photographs made with a Panasonic G2, and a Super Takumar 55 1.8 @ f/11 with 3 extension tubes.

Or if you are that worried about it, don’t set your camera down. Or better yet just stay home.

So I just noticed something funny about this thread. Everyone in it has repeatedly read/thought/written pentagon, but the in focus indicator on Pentax cameras is a hexagon, and has been since the film era. :)

If you are talking about the Sony camera, that’s a no. Japan market Sony, Olympus, and some other brand cameras are hard locked to only display Japanese. It is an anti-grey market thing.

One from last night. Had a lovely sunset. Unfortunately sunset photos are one of my weak points, but this one looks okay to me. A bit noisy because my tripod is M.I.A. What do y'all think?
Edit: the forums photo storage is still murdering my color and sharpness. I don't know why. If anyone could point me to a Flickr on PF tutorial, I would be grateful.

If nothing else works, try turning the AF switch on the front of the body on.

Actually I had just hung the light string, and plugged it in while I was putting the bulbs in, so I could be sure everything was working properly. I took the photo almost immediately after. I was standing there thinking "Doh! I forgot to unplug the cord!" but then I shot it with the light on, and decided I was happy with it that way.
